Predgarians: Trial by Fire

Rate this book
It’s been a short time since the Sarpien General, Red Jackal, raided the heart of Steiron and the streets have gone eerily quiet. Questions have been raised at the Predgarian council and Captain Golden Lion now finds himself under deep scrutiny. All the Predgarians can hope is that the Sarpiens stay quiet while the officious elder pays them this unwelcome visit. Unknown to them, the Sarpiens have their own problems – with each other. Tempers are rising and raging between the Sarpiens loyal to Trine and those loyal to Sharglin. Confrontation is imminent, and the Predgarians – the very city – stands in the firing line. Trial by Fire is the fourth book in this epic Predgarian series by fantasy author C.A. Ardron. This book has been previosly published.

Fourth book of the series complete. I absolutely churned through Books 2-4 in under a month, and this is in spite they all being on the longer side. Very engaging, and the major consistency in Ardron's storytelling is the capacity to bait interest from chapter to chapter. Trial By Fire had this in spades.
Story was less about Silver Falcon this time and more about inner Order politics and also the type of political in-fighting that comes with it. Someone doesn't like someone because of X, Y, Z, and let's absolutely disassemble the city around them because of it. With this, the different Orders prerogatives are established, as well as the Sclithes, and the palpable fear of the misery they can wrought upon each other is finally hinted upon. Book 5 will likely be where the big stakes are had, and the reader can sort of see endgame in the distance.
Other thing I noticed, was the author voice. Got more dialogue play here and this is the author's stronger work. Great to see them coming into their own. Really looking forward to reading more of Predgarians, but I will have to be patient and wait.
