Father: K.N. Srinivas Desikachar.
Mother: Ranganayakamma. He belongs to a family of Vedic scholars. B.Sc from Maharaja College, Mysore. graduates. After B.A. Graduated with Honors and Masters in Modern English Literature. Completed this Ph.D in W.B. Yates and T.S. Studied Indian culture on Eliot's poetry.
He retired as a professor of English at Karnataka College, Dharwad and as the principal of that college. Currently residing in Bangalore. Specializing in the Vedas, Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavata, he wrote works on the economics of Bendre and Kautilya. Expert in Sanskrit, Kannada and English. He has authored more than 180 books and delivered more than 200 lectures

ಧಾರವಾಡದ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿ, ಆ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾಗಿ ನಿವೃತ್ತರಾದರು. ಸದ್ಯ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವೇದಗಳು, ರಾಮಾಯಣ, ಮಹಾಭಾರತ, ಭಾಗವತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪರಿಣಿತಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದು, ಬೇಂದ್ರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೌಟಿಲ್ಯನ ಅರ್ಥಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೃತಿ ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಣಿತರು. ಸುಮಾರು 180ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಸುಮಾರು 200ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ

Insights Into the Bhagavad Geeta by Dr. KS Narayanacharya is a monograph analysing The Gita and some of the approaches taken in commentaries by traditional and secular commentators over the years. Shri Narayanacharya anchors his essays on Sri Ramanuja’s Bhashya and later gloss on it by Sri Vedanta Desika in delivering the core message of Gita to the reader. The acharya opines that the main text and commentaries provide a proven pathway for a heroic style of life, where anyone can aspire to achieve one’s fullest potential.
The short book comprises of 13 essays expositioning on The Gita thought, Sri Ramanuja’s synthesis connecting the Karma, Jnana and Bhakti approaches and clarifies certain knotty issues ignored by other commentaries. After describing the foundational ideas of the Gita like Yajnya, Tapas, Ahmisa, Shraddha, Sannyas, Surrender etc, Sri Narayanacharya goes further to explain the main thrust of the Gita’s thought flow - exhorting one to reach ‘perfection’ by action combined by right jnana, Bhakti and Surrender. This is another book that I received from Subbu Publications for participating in their Gita Jayanti online quiz series in December 2022.
It is my second book by Professor KS Narayanacharya. It is an analysis of the Gita and the commentaries of some of the great saints like Shankaracharya, Madhavacharya, etc., the different sects and schools of thoughts. How the divergent approach for each of the commentaries has brought out a different meaning of the treatise.
It is another good book on understanding the layered nuances of the Gita. However, I felt challenged in understanding the differences between the various sects, since these are fairly new concepts to me, and I have not read much into it. This book gives me an impetus to read on the sects, the great saints and their works along with our scriptures.
