1001 Running Tips by Robbie Britton is a light-hearted and informative guide to all kinds of running. This is no standard instruction manual – it is much more useful than that. This is a huge collection of small tips to make a real difference to your running, whether you're just starting out and aiming to run for 30 minutes without stopping or if you're training for your first marathon – this book will improve your running. The myriad of topics featured include starting out, setting goals, training plans, injury, nutrition, safety, kit, running with your dog, navigation, sleep deprivation, running in all weathers, racing, fell running and music. Robbie's unique and accessible style will keep you entertained and, most importantly, he'll motivate you to keep enjoying running, overcome obstacles getting in your way and to become the best runner you can!
Can you write 1001 and tips about anything? Apparently so!
This is full of some really good advice irrespective of your level of running experience. I enjoyed it and did pick up some useful advice. I did have a few (minor) gripes
There was some duplication of advice because of how the tips were structured
For example, tips were organised in sections about specific topics such as training, nutrition or ultrarunning which meant there was some cross over in some of the advice so some of the tips broadly ended up saying the same thing
Some sections were basically a written paragraph and then sentences were marked as individual tips
I know i'm being picky with this one, I just think having to hit 1001 tips forced it a little. I'd preferred those to have been actual chapters or paragraphs as they'd have read better
Kindle formatting didn't work properly
I've not see the print version and it probably worked fine there but some specific tips were given a different background colour to highlight them . This ended up as grey text on a dark background which made for very difficult reading.
I did enjoy this on the whole though and will be recommending it to my running group!
