Hmmm!!!

Well I really don't know what to say that could be positive about this book except that I did get this for free on Amazon Kindle. What drew me to the book was the awesome book cover. The story starts out with some some what interesting characters with the hint that they had some sort of powers and that some type of evil darkness was after them. The story was disappointing to me because it seemed incomplete due to the fact it did not answer the questions of what sort of powers they had or what the evil darkness was. Also since the characters know they are inhuman but they do not know what they are or why they exist. It amazed me how I kept reading through the book hoping to learn the answers.

The erotic sex scenes were medium and I thought the author over thought the scenes because sometimes the positions or movements were confusing. Don't get me wrong, I love a good juicy love scene but it seemed the scenes were rushed and after one time in the bed the couple were magically in love when no where in the scenes does the characters show any kind of emotion except for wanting to rape each other sexually.

I don't know, this story could have so much potential if the author would of added a little clearer details. So sad.

Huh, a little disappointing

Not quite what I was expecting. I'm all for romance, but this was weird. Lots of sex right from the start between strangers, soul snatching, weird insecurities, then marriage proposals? Talk about emotional upheaval, these two were all over the place. Only Janice and Horace seemed reasonable. And what the heck, Janice lets Dallas go for three days with a complete stranger and you hear nothing more from her? This story needed more fleshing out.

Sex, sex and more sex. I'm reading erotica, so I obviously don't have a problem with sex in my fiction. I like it even. But this was just too much for me. Not necessarily too much sex, just too much sex for this storyline. McFalls had an interesting idea. She developed some interesting characters. She created a credible evil for said characters to fight against. Then she seems to have taken her well thought out outline and fleshed it out with sex, sex and more sex instead of solid plot development. It's a short book. There's plenty of room left over to bolster the plot, give some character histories, further explain the Protectors, follow up on Lady Czarina, and explore the moral implications of The Darkness. Far too many questions were left unanswered. (Not least of which is how Brendan came back in the end.)

Then there are all the sexual dominance issues. The whole thing is fraught with conflicts--where what is happening in the scene doesn't match up with what narrator says the character is feeling. Scenes like where Dallas is bound and blindfolded, feels completely outside of her comfort zone and as if she has no power at the moment, but the narrator is raving on about how in control she feels. What? Or the fact that she is supposed to be unable to climax, but practically had to crawl back from the edge of an orgasim to play that particular fragile card. Seems to me the two of them were doing just fine already. It felt very much like a plot device to enable the introduction of bondage play. Why?

The writing was good. The editing was good. The idea was good. But the whole thing just fell flat at the end. It could have been so much better.

Dallas isn't having a good day - she's late for the interview to get the job of her dreams, and it seems to be a reoccurring nightmare! Little does she know that she's the one behind all the strange things that seem to be happening lately. She may not know, but Brendan does. Brendan is a protector and he sees the dark thing that hungers for Dallas's soul. He knows that it's his job to protect her, but he wants to do so much more that just that.

To save the day he invades her dreams and forces her to realize what she really is and to prepares her to face an unspeakable evil force. Their destinies are intertwined in such a way that in order to save them both, they must both learn to trust and love after lives that have taught them to do just the opposite.

A sexy and exciting ride that follows A Wizard for Christmas in the Protectors series. Not nearly as tame as A Wizard for Christmas, McFalls pulls out some amazing writing that creates a novella that demands to be read in one sitting.

I liked this idea of the story of non-human beings that are trying to protect themselves for this unknown dark force and I enjoyed the well written sex scenes, but when I reached the end of the book I felt like I was was still missing a huge chunk of the story. I'm fine with the idea that the main characters fell in love quickly but the rest of the story was a little too weak. I felt like this book was written just for the sex scenes and the rest of the story was written around that. I had way too more unanswered questions and I even searched on the author's book list to see if there was a second book and saw that it has 2 other books, so I will see if I can get more from them.
Overall, if your looking for a short read where the main characters get over their horrible past by falling instantly in love through repeated sexual encounters, a story that doesn't explain who or what they or the darkness is, and you don't really care about a serious plot, then this book is for you.

Neptune's Lair by Dorothy McFalls is a quick read. It's about good versus evil, the darkness. It's approach is quite different. It appears a few people who appear as infants, they were orphaned. They are not human. They don't know too much about themselves. This story starts with Brendan having a vision of a woman in distress. Stone tells Brendan to go after her. She somehow slinked beneath their radar. The dark has already discovered her. There is a strong sexual tension between Brendan and the woman named Dallas. Ms. McFalls story writing skills are significant. She develops the tale with such detail and her characters jump off the page. I liked this book.

This book was a little weird, and coming from someone who reads a lot of paranormal romance, that's saying something. I can't quite put my finger on what it was exactly, there were a lot of elements in there that could have helped the book be quite good, but just didn't. The story was okay but didn't really draw you in, the attraction between Dallas and Brendan was so hot and fast, it wasn't easy to relate to their feelings and their was a lot of physic 'raping and pillaging' going on that didn't feel right either. An okay read for me, with a bit of a skim to get to the finish and see how it all ended.

I was very confused while reading this book! Nothing was explained in any significant detail, to the point where the characters only had blinding chemistry between them and then suddenly a deep and lasting love. I couldn't buy it. There was no build up, no nothing, and then boom! We have a happily ever after. I'm grateful this was both a short read and a free read for me, because I found myself not caring about the characters, to the point where I know I will never re-read this story and have deleted the author's works from my Kindle library.

Holy carpe diem batman this book left me one hot mess yet fully satisfied with the ending. Boy needs to save girl, girl gets mad and goes a bit nutty. Girl falls in love and accepts while boy falls in love and denies. Girl needs saved again but...... It may seem like a tired story but trust me this is one fast paced love story that keeps you on your toes and a smile on your face. At least in my opinion...

Another good read. I read Mystical Seduction first and was worried when I found out this book was technically the first in the series. However, both of them do well as stand-alone novels. There was lots of action going on and the ending wasn't predictable. I would recommend reading this one first though, since there are spoilers in Mystical Seduction that let you know kinda what happened during Neptune's Lair.

Neptune lair?

Have no idea what the title means as it has no relevance. I felt like the characters were a little Moe fleshed out in this one, but so much is still missing, the what they can do, why's as Dallas says " Wheres the manual?".
