The Rogue Lawman, Gideon Hawk, can turn from marshal to executioner with the pull of a trigger...
A hunted man, Hawk has retreated to his remote cabin in the San Juan Mountains, hoping to simply disappear. But when young, beautiful Catherine McCormick comes to him alone in the rain from the mining camp over the mountain, he knows his respite is over.
A vicious gang raided the girl's camp, ravaging and brutalizing at will, and killing Catherine's brother. Catherine is willing to give Hawk anything, even herself, to hunt down the killers and serve up the brutal, decisive, and fitting justice the Rogue Lawman is known for.

This is the first I've read from this author but it won't be the last. Lots of sensory details really bring the story to life, and the action is pretty much non-stop. Very enjoyable read.

While in town dealing faro for grub money, the bank is robbed. Unable to turn away, he heads out.
Gideon Hawk had found a cabin in the hills to give him the much-needed peace that he sought after exacting his revenge. He went after the man that killed his son by hanging him and causing his wife to commit suicide; by hanging herself, unfortunately, it had given him the name of the “Rogue Lawman.” He needed time for it to die down before he did anything else. He only went into town to deal a little faro for grubstake money and then returned to the cabin. This time, while he was there, the bank was robbed, and two young girls were kidnapped. Hawk knew what the outlaws would do to those young women, and he could not turn his back to it. So he saddled up and went after them, and the story begins.
Join Gideon as he continues to rid the world of the outlaws…
What did I like? It is possible that I have found another favorite character to ride behind. Gideon Hawk is a man that hurts, and you just can’t help loving and rooting for him. But it is for sure that trouble seems to find him even when he is trying to hide from the world.
What will you like? Characters that will bind to your heart, outlaws that you want to take care of yourself, and a creative and well-crafted storyline that you will remember forever. It doesn’t get any better than that when you read a great story of the west! Add Peter Brandvold’s book two of the Rogue Lawman, “Deadly Prey” today to your library!!!
Sometimes, hunting down the bad guys allows you to also save some good people. While trailing a gang, Gideon finds out they are on their way to kill a town sheriff. Fortunately he is out of town when the gang moves in and takes over. Gideon needs to take out the entire gang before the sheriff gets back and is murdered. Deputy US Marshal Luke Morgan is a friend of Gideon's that Hawk basically trained. Four territorial governors have sworn out a death warrant for Gideon and it becomes Morgan's job to kill him. How well do you suppose that is going to work?
You can't go wrong with Peter's work. Never really read this series before so I'm looking forward to the rest. Great action, easy to read, page-turning stuff. Starting to sound like a scratched record but it's true. Western writing at its finest.
I enjoyed reading the book but some of it is a little too far fetch. He went after a gang of 20 and killed 99% of them by himself. He never got a thank you either from the Sheriff that he saved.
This was a very good book, one of those you wonder how in the world he could change so much! The ending left me hoping there would be another to follow.
