Woah, I’m actually quite blown away. Nonetheless, still volume only gets 4 stars and the reason is simple: I just wasn’t veeeery interested in the story about Hinome’s mother, though I must add, the truth about her caused me to finally start to sympathize Hinome (beforehand, I had been indifferent).
Actually it’s more than that... She’s kind of like me when taking her wishes to support Im into consideration. Hinome wants to save him from the darkness, light up his world, and most importantly she wants him to make up with Djoser. I hope for exactly the same things and I’m certain with her new capability, she will be able to support Im as good as possible, thanks to her mother. Getting a teeny weeny bit deeper in detail, Hinome’s mother is amazing. I would never ever ever ever have thought, there might be any kind of mystery about her. But there is and it’s actually breath-taking, considering WHO her mother truly was! Such power and such purpose, plus the original assignment which brought her into existence. Thinking now it’s Hinome who inherited her power, I’m curious what role she will play in the ...final end battle.
There’s obviously some kind of end battle to come. And though I had been certain it in some ways would be magai pharao Djoser against Im’s crew, I’ve been taught I was worse. Being told about the real past at the beginning of everything, how the gods lived alongside the humans, how the miasma and the magai came into existence and how hell itself was created,... it was pretty much info but I feel eventually I understand what’s truly going on. Especially in regard of Apophis, the first evil god. This is such an interesting plot twist and I can’t tell how much I love it because it might mean, there’s still a way to rescue Djoser from hell, right? (This is me and my foolish hope for this poor prince to get the happiness he deserves.) At least now Im is aware, his friend still is there, right inside Apophis and when Im had that short chance to actually see Djoser, I was as close to tearing up as Im himself was. But then how the h*** do you kill an ancient god who of course is immortal and whom not even the ennead had been able to annihilate?! Okay, maybe this isn’t about killing but sealing away once more... Considering Thoth was the keeper of hell’s gate, Im and his crew might need to find / consult the real, ancient Thoth..... This is just a theory, though.
Finally, taking a look at the Amen Priesthood and those few new characters which were introduced: I’m so in loooove! There’s the doctor who wants to find a way to cure the possessors of the black mark before they go berserk and turn into magai. He’s a cool guy and smiled fondly when he asked Im to help him save the world. We also learn, among the priests there are known possessors of the mark, like Khonsu. If I got it correctly, the highest-ups aren’t aware yet but the doctor helps Khonsu and gives him medicine to slow down the process. Still, he seems close to losing this fight. I hope he won’t, though! I really like Khonsu as character! Next there are two more “important” characters (considering their ranking in the priesthood). There’s Hapi, a 100% sly and creepy guy whom I wouldn’t trust a bit. The simple way he looks at someone and pretends to be all friendly — gross! I’m curious what he’s up to and what his role will be. There’s already a hint at the end of this volume which causes me to like him even less. Last but not least — pls insert a drumroll — there’s Ausir!! Firstly, this man looks soooo incredibly good! I had seen artworks and sketches of him some months ago at the mangaka’s twitter and I loved him on first sight. Unfortunately, in this volume he only had a very short appearance. But there still was a bit info about him and also some other families. Apparently there are some kind of ”noble” families among the priesthood. And a member of Ausir is one of those, the Osiris house. Plus, Lato and Yuuto are his younger siblings which makes it quite ...wonderous that Lato works under Khonsu’s command. Anyways, I can’t await to learn more about hot Ausir and as he’s on the cover of the next volume, I think I won’t have to wait too long.
Of course there are many reasons why I look forward to read volume 8. I really love how this series is getting better with every installment.
