Battlefield Heart

In many ways, this is a story, strung together through dark poetry and words written through pain. It is the author's heart, bleeding out on the pages for you to read. These words that, at times, are too hard to say or express, but are more easily written down and tucked away.

Battlefield Heart is collection of poetry that covers themes from the loss of loved ones, to the loss of self, and the struggle to love yourself once again. In reading this, I hope you find the beauty in yourself, the darkness alongside the light and know that you are worthy.

Heartfelt poetry

I feel incredibly inadequate to review poetry. It's so personal and intense and I am NOT a poet by any means. But I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading these bits of Wieland's soul each night, and I look forward to more glimpses in the future. Well done.

A hauntingly beautiful collection of dark poetry, “Battlefield Heart” by K.R. Wieland is both heartbreaking yet stunning in its raw expression. Each poem is like a melancholic snippet of the author’s soul, focusing often on the battles we encounter within ourselves, and with those others who are careless with our emotions. The subject matter is often centred around loss - whether that be the loss of someone or the loss of oneself - and it is difficult not to find this relatable in some way, for we have all experienced loss of some kind. Yet the onus is on discovering the light alongside the darkness, and the path towards healing.

A gorgeous collection of dark poetry, both heartbreaking and beautiful in equal measure. So many of the pieces spoke to me on an intimate level, almost like my own thoughts were being mirrored back to me.

To me, Battlefield Heart is a story of loss, told through poetry. Loss of love, loss of self, and the journey to finding those things again. There is hope within the hopelessness.

I very much recommend this collection. Battlefield Heart was both daunting and delightful to read!

Unflinching is not a word I would normally use when describing poetry. The word feels right, however, when reading K. R. Wieland’s latest collection, ‘Battlefield Heart’.
The voices in these poems speak of betrayal, loss, and the pain we cause each other. Her narrators face these pains head on and truthfully, with vivid imagery and beautifully chosen words.
Truth is at the center of all of these poems, and Wieland’s narrators speak directly to the sources of their pain in a way that betrays the love they still feel in spite of it all. There is joy and humor here and a little bit of horror as well. I thoroughly enjoyed these poems and I look forward to more work from K.R. Wieland.

With Battlefield Heart, Wieland has beautifully depicted the dark yet cathartic journey of a wounded soul fighting for hope and healing. While exploring these raw and relatable poems, I found myself marking my favorite passages, so I could re-read them multiple times. Overall, I deeply connected with and enjoyed this compilation, and would love to see more from the author!!
