Midlife Witchery #9

Magical Delivery

Rate this book
Ancient traps, Fae beasts, and a lava chamber are the hurdles I must overcome to reach the dragon equivalent of a maternity ward. No biggie, right?

Solving one crisis after another with my coven left me battered me to a pulp at times, but it prepared me for my most difficult journey yet: returning to Eidothea to save my child's life. Apparently, most beings can't successfully carry a dragon's baby unless they undergo trials and tribulations to reach the lava tunnels in a forbidden mountain in the Fae realm. I know I will make it, because I have a much bigger issue to deal with.

Argies's overprotective brother, who just so happens to be my new king, is insistent on having things his way. Argies and I have barely made it past his discovery of my pregnancy, and now his brother thinks he can force me to stay in his realm. I've outsmarted a controlling ex, mastered the language of manipulation, and I'm one-third of the Backside of Forty. And did I mention I'm about to give birth to a dragon? King or not, he's got to learn that I'm not someone to be messed with.

Aislinn and her friends, Fiona and Violet are a group of three witches with various other powers. This is the next in the series where they all return to the land of the Fee together.
Because Aislinn must deliver the shapeshifter dragon baby she is carrying.
They are faced with a lot of challenges to get to the mountains and lava flow cave where the baby must be born. It is a dragon's requirement or the baby will die.
Unfortunately, they face Dark Fae, demon animals and many obstacles trying to get there.
Lots of action and adventure in the Fae realm. And another big life event for the three magical friends.

This is book nine of the Midlife Witchery series and the main characters are the BoF, the Backside of Forty trio, Aislinn, Fiona and Violet, as well as Argies and Bas (Sebastian). Aislinn had finally given in to the pressure to return to Eidothea, to spend her final trimester of her pregnancy with Argies dragon baby, in the only place likely to keep her and the aby alive! They need to travel through to the lave tubes in a nearby mountain and then into the special birthing chamber within the mountain, where all dragon babies are born. They will face challenges of both physical and mental trials to make it there, but also face off against Dark Fae, still fighting for the Dark One after they defeated the evil King Vodor. Argies brother is now the king and his family expect Argies to stay in Eidothea in his position as General, and that the baby will be brought up there as well. Not welcome news for Aislinn, as time works so different between there and on Earth. Aislinn also has to contend with her feelings for Argies and the life he had at his home, without her and who he had been with! She had a hard enough time figuring out how to tell him about her pregnancy to begin with and they are still feeling their way around their connection because of the baby.
It is hard enough for Aislinn to carry a dragon baby, as not many dragon pregnancies make it all the way, especially when the woman isn’t a dragon herself. She has been drained by the demands of the baby, making her almost skeletal in appearance, never mind all the battles she and the coven had to undergo before they could leave. Argies family demanding the baby stay in the fae realm, is just another battle she must undergo. Fiona has Bas with her, whilst Violet left Thanos, her demigod behind, and Aislinn has to figure out what she wants from Argies. It could be her pregnancy hormones making her feel frisky for him, but at least he is more accepting of the baby now and his responsibilities for her. He helps with her food cravings, but they all get separated at various times on their journey to the lave tubes and danger is all around. The birth process is almost not something to be sneezed at and even with her BoF’s buddies. She or the baby may not survive. It finishes on traumatic crescendo, just as baby Kalliopi arrives, but Aislinn is weakened. The friends do all they can, but even they may not be enough, as the story ends in a cliffhanger. Thankfully there is a short preview of the next book, to put you out of your misery, so you can see what happens next!
Another difficult journey for the BoF trio and some of their partners, as they must battle against Dark Fae, fight off a goddesses nasty creatures, never mind face all the trials they must undergo to see if Aislinn and her baby are worthy enough to enter the mountain and access the lava tubes. But entry is not the final step as numerous creatures and traps are waiting for them. Goddess Artemis manages to track them down again, but what this has to do with the Dark One and how this is all linked together is unclear. You don’t want to annoy a god or goddess, as they don’t take criticism well and can get quite snippy. Artemis has plans for the three friends and it may well be something they may not be able to refuse. Lots more to come from this group of characters, with fae, elemental and witch magic, as well as dragons and demigods. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing what happens with the birth and beyond. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Aislinn and the other BoF witches have finally made it back to Eidothea. Sebastian and Argies have come through the portal with them, Thanos had to remain behind with the hellmouth. The group needs to get Aislinn to the lava tubes on a mountain in the Fae realm if she wants to safely have her dragon baby. Just being in Eidothea makes her feel stronger, though she could do without the snobby royal Fae witches (name changed to satisfy the Amazon witches). She can see that Argies is admired and needed in the realm. He is the King's general and has important duties. She is not sure what that means for their future, but that is a problem for another day.

The trip across Eidothea is full of dangers and the journey through the mountain is filled with challenges that are almost the undoing of Aislinn and her companions. Then there is the visit from the goddess...gulp. Brenda leaves us a maddening cliffhanger that might make you cuss a little. (Witch!)

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

a number of challenges present themselves as the Backside of Forty folks arrive in the Fae kingdom to deal with the birth if the dragonette to Aislynn.

mysterious forces come forth, working class residents mostly embrace the travelers. The elite do not seem quite as welcoming- given the difference in how time passes in each realm, some have doubts as to the father of the baby.

others are just out for power in pursuit of Argies. yet these nuisances seem far from the only hindrance to a chance for Argies and Aislynn.

Will she be able to deliver safely? Is there really a chance she might not survive the birth and related complications?

Is the fae kingdom really as free from dark fae as hoped? a bigger threat might linger mostly hidden.

Intense sisterhood drama, realm redefining action and adventures with complex relationships added for even more spice.

When it comes to the BoF, these ladies cannot catch a break. Aislinn and the group are back in the Fae Realm to prepare for the birth of 'nugget'. Around every corner is another challenge. That's on top of the fact that Argies and Aislinn are not sure where their relationship stands, or what the future will hold. I will say that the action was non-stop, the surprises just keep coming and while some questions are answered, others arise. They only spoiler I will give...it ends with one helluva cliffhanger. I will be impatiently waiting for the next book. This is my voluntary opinion of an early copy I received.

Good

WARNING! MASSIVE cliffhanger! We’re talking life threatening type here.

Aisling and the Backside of Forty, plus Bas and Argies head for Eidothea and the location where dragon mamas give birth.

While Aisling and her friends have to deal with so many obstacles in this one, Argies really made me mad!
It’s true, he does a lot to redeem himself, but I’m still mad about something he did, and his horrendous way of handling it and Aisling!

Nevertheless, this is still an enjoyable addition to the Backside of Forty series, even if it does end in a terrible cliffhanger! Recommended for PWF fans.

What a series! Midwife Witcher Book 9 is the continuation of the tales of three witches who are midlife but are vibrant as ever. We pick the story up with Aislinn‘s pregnancy. She is returning to her lover after some time to tell him of his impending fatherhood. I have not read any of the previous books in this series, but I was able to pick up the story easily due to some excellent writing. I loved that these women were older, proving that love can find you at any age. Download and enjoy ❤️❤️.

Excitement at every turn.

Brenda Trim is a fabulous writer. These series about women is some of her best work. This book was one that we all been waiting for, the birth of a baby dragon or is she? As you know Brenda manages to put in a twist at the end of each of her books. But to know some of the interesting things about the baby you need to read the first chapter that is at the end. You will be surprised and delighted at the same time. Can't wait to see what Brenda Trim has planned for the next book.

Really enjoy your stories

I enjoy your stories and writing. The main character in this book, however, is barely likable. I think in an effort to portray her as damaged and untrusting, she is actually the terrible one in the relationship. She is pushy, headstrong in a bad way and kind of dumb. Again, you are a fun writer to read, but Aislinn is an extremely annoying character. I have enjoyed the books you write. I think the middle aged woman characters would be better if you didn't have them constantly thinking about their physical drawbacks. Thanks for creative stories.

Not having read the first eight books in the series I thought I would have been overwhelmed, but I wasn't. All that Aislinn had to endure in order to reach her end goal. If labor isn't difficult enough without being tested constantly and jumping through hoops. The BoF are definitely a force to be reckoned with and are definitely Aislines support group. I am so thankful that Argies confessed his true feelings even though it was a bittersweet ending. How you leave us with such a cliffhanger Brenda?.

Aislinn's Journey . . .

Aislinn is finally realizing she has to return to Eidothea, to the lava tubes on the mountain in the Fae realm where she will have the dragon baby. The trials and tribulations she has to go through to try to get there makes for an exciting adventure, and there is the possibility that she may not survive the birth. Argies and Aislinn also have to deal with their shaky relationship, if it even still exists. Despite the author’s trying to portray her as a strong woman, I will have to say that Aislinn can be very annoying at times and is not my favorite character.

Be prepared

Ok, Ms. Trim, what the h.e. double hockey sticks made you pick THAT place to leave it? And now I have to wait until September? Oh no you didn't!

Ok, this is one of my all time favorite series, and this book just pushed me into the stratosphere! I can't say anything else without spoilers, so I will end this with READ THIS DAMNED SERIES ALREADY! You won't regret it, and make sure you get her other series that tie in to this one! Happy reading.

I have read all the books in this series and this did not disappoint.

It follows Aislinn, her friends and Argies the father of her unborn child's journey and trials to deliver her baby safely.

The love and warmth the writing conveys about her characters is refreshing and consistent throughout the series.

Ends on a cliffhanger, can't wait to read the next in the series.

Aisinn and the rest of the backside of forty have returned to Eidothea. The only way both she and the baby will survive is if they travel to the Lava tunnels and have the baby there. Aislinn’s pregnancy is front and center in this story as she returns to the fae realm and confronts Argies. Their love story is full of angst and misunderstanding because they are both afraid to become vulnerable to the other. The journey to the lava tubes and the trials they must go through kept me eagerly turning the pages to find out what would happen!.

The Backside of Forty are traveling to Eidothea so Aislinn can give birth to her dragonlet in a mountain there that is just for the purpose. Along the way, they have plenty of distractions to keep them busy. This story is funny, heart-pounding, and romantic, ending with a whopper of a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.

The further I get into this series, the more I am enjoying it. In this one, the BOF coven are back in Eidothia, so Aislinn can head to the lava tubes where all baby dragons are born. Along the way, they have to battle dark Fae, and murderous, weird creatures. Just getting t0 where she needs to be to deliver her baby safely, takes all the magic, tenacity and team work the BOF can dredge up. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

The writing is great but,

While I enjoy the writing and the adventure, I don't think that this is a man I would ever aspire to be with in my midlife. Seems too much like a man who doesn't appreciate what he had nor is he nearly good enough to be hero material. But that's just my opinion. Both him and Bas were jacka$$es in this book if you ask me. Which is too bad. I understand a good story needs turmoil, but you still want a hero that is considerate, kind and loyal.

Aislinn is in a run for her life and that of her unborn daughter. The obstacle course between her and her destination is unreal. The whole journey is incredible and a very good read. The ending was not what I expected.
