A really good story on how a very different group of people can work together to save something important to them, overcoming their fears and struggles. New friends, traumatic past, abusive relationships but, in the end, a common goal bring them together.
Will admit I was drawn in by the title and it sounded like an interesting story. The ARC was provided by Hidden Gems. From the beginning of the story, I felt like I was missing something. The main character, Lexi, has a traumatic past, that comes out bit by bit through the book. Her therapist forces her to join a running group, so she will start to build a life and possibly gain some friends. The group is a quirky band of people, each with an interesting backstory and reason for joining. As they build a team together, they are also trying to save their community center. Powerful forces in their small town try to stop them and so the story goes.
Lexi is battling demons from her past and her therapist recommends she find some friends. She joins a running group and ends up in a running group that she really doesn't like but learns to love. Once she meets new friends she and her friends are in for the battle of their life for something they feel strongly about.
In this book, Trish Taylor tells the story of how a ragtag group of people works together to achieve something, despite their insecurities and struggles. They bond well and support each other while battling powerful adversaries. Initially, the writing style did not sit well with me as the story seemed to start in the middle, without any background. Besides, I am not a great fan of flashbacks unless they are masterfully well-written. However, the story soon won me over as it had my favourite theme of second chances/starting over. The book also had the right amount of mystery to keep me interested. The main character Lexi had a startling past. It is revealed slowly as the story unfolds. Enjoyable!
I really gave it my best shot because it is cute and fall-ish being set in and around October… but the writing is all over the place and I didn’t understand the flow for the first 10 chapters so I have to DNF.
