Clean and clear and readable advice. Understandably UK focused when it comes to resources but, at least from this admittedly limited cis white gay perspective, a lot of the tips and methods rang true in ways I had not expected. One to take notes on and journal with for sure. I picked up a library copy so wrote down exercises I want to do in future.

The chapters are organized clearly and start with general mental health topics and terminology, before moving on to specific issues you or your queer loved ones may be facing.

To sum up - a worthy read for us queers and allies alike.

I read this book mainly for professional development reasons, but of course much of it resonated with my personal experiences.

Although very little of the information in it was new to me, what struck me the most about this book was its compassionate tone. I often find that self-help books feel patronising or make me think "this is not how it works" or "this person does not understand what it's like". This book never made me feel belittled or that I should be able to solve all my difficulties by filling in these exercises. For this reason I recommend it to any queer person who is experiencing mental health struggles and does not know where to start.

For me personally, this book also offered a way to include structural, institutional and environmental factors in a CBT framework, which I think will be useful for my own practice.

This is a fabulous read and a very valuable resources for individuals and professionals. This was one of the first books I read that I felt truly understood my experiences and provided applicable and helpful tools and worksheets. There are unfortunately not many resources available that address the intersectionality of mental health and queerness. For a community that experiences mental health issues at a higher rate than our non-lgbt peers, we can find a lot of hope in resources like this.
