Kyrell Knight believes life is a game to be played and thoroughly enjoyed. He rarely takes anything seriously, lives in the moment, and indulges in as much pleasure with women as possible. But the sarcasm, money, and women are an attempt to erase the memories of his past as he tries to forget what he came from. It works until his past wants to be a part of his present.
Kyrell reconnects with Quinn Halifax at their mutual best friend’s engagement party. They spark up a friendship that quickly turns to flames when it becomes a superficial, no strings attached relationship.
Kyrell is struggling with his past while Quinn is trying to secure her future. Neither is looking for more, but fate has other plans. What happens when two people collide with fate?
Now, other than it being slightly too long for my liking and feeling that Quinn’s development took a bit of a backseat, this was a stunning story.
My reading mood fucked up as I was reading this story, which why? Why did that need to happen? Why do mini slumps or slumps in general show up as you’re reading? 🥲
Anyway.
The romance? 🥹 Kyrell? A babe. Quinn? Another babe. Kyrell and his dad, Elias? Made this story.
It’s pretty much what this book was about. As much as we got the romance side of things, and we really did, and it was beautiful, this was very much a story about Kyrell reconnecting with his dad after having such a strained relationship.
And the journey they went on? It got to a point where I just could not stop crying.
Trigger warnings galore ahead: loss of a parent, cancer, child abuse, suicide, panic attacks, anxiety and depression..
This book was really fuckin’ heavy, so if you decide to pick it up, make sure you’re in the mood and right headspace for it.
Quinn and Kyrell have a friends with benefits relationship. Their chemistry was insanity. 😍 A.E. Valdez can write some goddamn good spice. But it was even better seeing their friendship/relationship forming through it all.
On top of that, we have a man that chooses to go to therapy. 🤧 Kyrell was a fuckin’ dreamboat! The way his character developed was beautiful.
Like I said, it felt a bit too long for me, it started feeling long-winded and repetitive, a bit too cheesy towards the end. There was an ending declaration that happened that felt a bit… dramatic that I wish was written differently.
4/5 - Coming from someone that has and continues to work through grief of a loved one, this was a tough read but so so good. I’m already itching to read the next book in the series! - Seeing someone’s walls be broken down and go from being a playboy to a loverboy was so fun to read!! I rarely like to read books that are heavily told from the guys pov but I really loved this one so much! - Anytime I can read about characters that find their anchor in each other is truly one of my favorite things to read. I’ve only read one other book by this author and I will DEFINITELY be picking up more books in the future!!
This book was eve👏🏽ry👏🏽thing!! If anybody tells you otherwise, the devil is a lie and the truth ain’t in em!!! We were introduced to Kyrell and Quinn in “All I Ever Wanted, All I Ever Needed”. If you haven’t read it stop 🛑 and go back. Kyrell and Quinn were both mutual friends of Harlow. We briefly read about the nonexistent relationship Kyrell had with his parents and this book nose dived head first into their traumatic history! The way the author unpacked this story on pain, heartache and forgiveness between Kyrell and his parents was emotional!! Whew!🤧😓 Kyrell is a successful business owner and runs a successful dispensary in LA. Similar to Acyn before he turned over a new leaf, Kyrell was running through women as if it was going out of style. These women were nameless faceless conquests and he was knocking em down like bowling pins. 🎳
He and Quinn crossed paths often over the course of several years and were always cordial since they shared mutual bff Harlow but it wasn’t until the circle became tighter that chemistry could no longer be denied and these two decided that a friends with benefits situation was in the cards. Quinn was a successful nurse and also resided in LA unbeknownst to each other. During their friend with benefits situation lines were blurred and feeling were caught (I know shocking 🤣)! Quinn had her own issues with her parents namely her mother who felt that Quinn’s place was in the home as a wife and mother. Quinn wanted more for herself and was on the next thing smoking out of Texas in order to steer clear of her mothers plans for her life.
This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride that you don’t want to get off of. My heart broke for Kyrell throughout this book. He was taken through so many obstacles that I thought he was going to wipe out 🤧😢 I loved how Quinn supported him! These two were everything and I thoroughly enjoyed their journey!! This author can write the hxll out of a story and I’m a fan for life! You will not be disappointed with this read!
Make no mistake this is Kyrell’s story, Ive seen some people refer to it as Quinn’s story and as much as she is the love interest the book focuses heavily on him and his parental issues. I loved Kyrell in “All I’ve Wanted, All Ive Needed” so I loved watching him fall in love.
They start as friends with benefits and of course the more time they spend together the more they fall in love. Quinn has always had a plan and likes to be in control of her own life, Kyrell is a “walking chill pill” and goes with the flow so he shows her how to let her hair down, the go karting date was hilarious.
I won’t say much more because I think it’s fun to just let the story unravel as you read it but Kyrell has serious issues with his parents and childhood which are described on page so check triggers but I enjoyed watching his relationship with his father build and tears were shed.
I did think the book dragged slightly towards the end, with parts being repeated and lots of spicy scenes that I had to skip over a bit because I’m personally not a big spice reader, I can do 1 or 2 scenes but not spice after ever serious conversation. But some may love that and it definitely didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story.
(FYI definitely read this before “The Beginning of Forever” book because that has spoilers for the ending of this book)
This book was okay. I much preferred the book with Harlow & Acyn . I had to force myself to finish this book. Kyrell was insufferable for half of the book. He was down right shitty to women. I understand not wanting to get close to the women, but the way he treated them was off putting . So because of that, it was hard for me to care about him and Quinn’s love. Quinn was too willing all the time. That annoyed me . I had to skim through the spicy scenes because it was too much. Like that’s what they did for 80% of the book. The father & son storyline was heartwarming though . That’s all.
This was so good! The story and characters were very well developed. Kyrell was a self proclaimed playboy but he was also respectful and never came across as an asshole. I really liked him! His and Quinn’s banter was so entertaining, I was smiling the whole time. I’m always so pleasantly surprised when a story that seems to have a pretty basic storyline turns out to be so good and manages to be extremely enjoyable without needing an extravagant plot. It’s is a bit long and probably could have cut out a hundred pages or so without missing out on anything but overall, it was a great read!
A.E. Valdez IS THAT GIRL PERIODT. I’m reading in the order she suggested. The way this book pulled on all my emotions. Kyrell & Quinn’s love story is filled with a lot of pleasure and pain. The spice was 3.5/5 🔥🤭 This might be my favorite book this year. The story got so deep at times but Valdez wrote this so beautifully and handled this with so much care. Kyrell dealt with child abuse & parental loss. Quinn was so patient with him 🥺I just loved the fact that he built his relationship with his dad. I hope they get a second book and we see the family dynamic develop. I also loved the therapy part of the story because this definitely needs to be normalized!! This book was chefs kissssssss I need the physical copy. ♥️
Well this was a rollercoaster of emotions😍😢💔🕊️😤 Going into this I predicted this to be a mid read by the way it started. I thought Kyrell was just going to be this player-type of guy but he turned out to be a real one. I loved how the majority of the chapters were from his POV. It’s rare that you see that in romance novels; it’s usually more focused on the woman and her journey. However, I still would have loved to see more of Quinn’s POV through the story. This dealt a lot with grief and abuse which I was NOT ready for. But the beauty of this book came with the character growth of them learning how to openly love and forgive despite their pasts. I can’t wait to continue on with this series. 🩷
Whew! What an emotional rollercoaster. Kyrell and his father really had me shedding tears. I loved Kyrell and Quinn. Their love journey was beautiful to witness and their playful banter had me in fits of laughter for most of the book. This is my fourth book by this author and I’ve loved every one of them.
After chapter 32, I didn’t stop snotting and crying!!! This was such a beautifully written story about life, growth, love, grief, & family! FORGIVENESS, was a big lesson given throughout this book!! The mental, physical, emotional, & spiritual healing that took place in this book was felt so deeply! This is a story that will forever stay with me! I have so many thoughts, I have to gather them & come back to put them into words!
Colliding with Fate was an emotional story that I did not expect. We met Kyrell and Quinn in All I've Wanted, All I've Needed (the heroine's best friends). Kyrell has made it clear he's not interested in relationships, his stance stemming from an abusive past with his mother and a father who traveled for work and was gone too much. On the opposite end, we have Quinn who is constantly being pushed to settle down, but she hasn't found the right one, and she'd rather continue her career as a nurse rather than be a trophy wife. The chemistry between these two was clear, and they had more in common than they thought. It's no surprise their friends with benefits situation turned into more as time went on.
Though this was about Kyrell and Quinn's romance, I do feel at times the book focused heavily on Kyrell and his family drama. A big plot point is that Kyrell finds out his father has terminal cancer, and wants the chance to reconnect with his son before his death (NOTE - his dad had no clue about the abusive mother). Kyrell's level of hurt and resentment is beyond measurement, so it takes him some time to adjust to the idea. I love when authors show heroes who go to therapy and work on processing their past hurts so they can break toxic habits. We do see him and his father reconcile, with Quinn's help, which was beautiful to see given his dad's diagnosis.
This one definitely took me off guard with how emotionally traumatized the hero was, so content warnings would be helpful for readers who prefer to avoid certain topics in this book. That aside, it was another successful read for me from this author.
TROPES: black romance, friends with benefits, hero with emotional trauma, rich hero, reformed player
TRIGGER WARNINGS: parent with terminal illness/cancer (on page), death of a parent (on page), mental health rep (suicidal ideation), parental abuse/neglect
This book delivers exactly what it promises—a fun, steamy, and emotional romance with two compelling leads. Kyrell Knight is the classic charmer, using wit, money, and casual flings to keep his past at bay. Quinn Halifax, on the other hand, is driven and focused, determined to build her future. Their connection starts off light and casual, but it quickly becomes something neither of them expected.
🎶"Supermarket Flowers" – Ed Sheeran 🎶"Falling" – Trevor Daniel 🎶"Earned It" – The Weeknd
Fucking whiplash, I would have fought this dumbass heroine bc she letting him treat her like that. Bishhh stay mad for 5 mins and it was a wrap. UGGHHHH. 😭
Kyrell was way more complex than I expected. He came across as the fun care free friend, which he was but he was battling abandonment. It crippled him in a way because he struggled with opening up to people because he didn't want to be hurt. He grew up without the presence of his parents, the lack of love made him numb to anything beyond friendships. Until he starts interacting with Quinn. They have known of each other for years and they share Harlow as a friend. However, something shifts and proximity is now in their favor. Their chemistry is off the chain and they are anything but wholesome and I was here for all the smoke 💨 from this insatiable duo. Kyrell says he isn't ready for a relationship, but his actions are sending a different message. The way he treats and cares for her is clearly different than with any other woman he has been with. His past makes him feel like he isn't worthy. I understood why he liked Quinn. She was easy going, spoke her mind, feisty, a great friend, hard working, and beautiful. I also liked that she was willing to move on, and kept her own needs at the forefront. If they were meant, she was going to allow fate to work itself out.
This book had some sexy elements and Kyrell's growth was key. The majority of it was kind of somber. Kyrell went from no parental relationship to gaining one temporarily... Overall, it was a solid read, but too long. It could have been about 100 pages less without impacting the plot of the story.
4.75 stars! Ms. Valdez, how do you keep perfectly executing friends to lovers like this??? I’m in love with all the characters in this universe, I’m addicted!! I love how A.E. Valdez’s men aren’t copy and paste, they’re all so different from one another. This book focuses on Kyrell and Quinn, but mainly Kyrell. I loved watching Kyrell mend his relationship with his father, it made me so emotional. I loved Quinn and Kyrell’s relationship, it was so fun to watch them go from friends with benefits to lovers. I’ll read this woman’s grocery list!
“Nothing is perfect. But me and her, us – we’re perfect for each other.”
Although this book was heavier than the first, you can’t help but love Kyrell as he journeys through childhood trauma, pain, grief, healing, and love. Quinn had so much patience with him and seemed to genuinely want to be there for him not only as a lover but as a friend. I can’t think of a better ending for these two.
Favorite Scenes: 🐈 Kyrell passing out from that KP 😂 🐈 Being able to see a more serious side to Kyrell and Harlow’s friendship. 🐈 Harlow taking pics of Kyrell and his dad. 🐈 The camping trip. 🐈 Yvette getting NOTHING. 🐈 Quinn healing her relationship with her Mom. 🐈 Quinn hitting the “baby daddy jackpot”.
Before I really get started on what I want to say about this book, I first want to just shout out A.E. Valdez. This was my 4th book by her. What I've come to appreciate most about her books is she writes complete stories. She addresses everything she brings up and doesn't leave you hanging on anything. She has quickly risen to the automatic buy list.
With that being said, that absolutely applied to this story as well. I loved this book! I was happy, and mad, and sad, and offended, and heartbroken, and elated! There were moments when my heart was in my throat and I found myself physically rubbing the heel of my palm to my heart to try and relieve the ache. But believe me, every feeling was worth it.
The story was plot driven and character driven. Flawed people do the very best they could and trying their hardest to get better. I loved both Kyrell and Quinn so very much. I'm so happy for where they are now. I wasn't ready to leave them. And oh yes, this was very spicy.🔥🔥 Happy reading!
I'M OBSESSED. Within the first few pages, I was sold! I thought Kyrell was funny in All I’ve Wanted, All I’ve Needed so to get to know him more was an experience. His story sparked some emotion in me. I adored Quinn! I could relate to her so much. I enjoy each character individually and together they complimented each other. There was not one second I wasn’t routing for them to be together. Highly recommend!
This author has made it to my list of auto buy authors. I love love love this so much. I spent half the book crying or laughing. Highly recommend this series 👌.
2.75 So… here’s the thing. I absolutely love the author’s writing, but this book wasn’t for me.
I didn’t like the couple until the end of the book; Quinn was a likable character but I didn’t really felt the same way about Kyrell. And while their dynamic wasn’t bad, I didn’t enjoy their relationship. I guess I’m a bit tired of the whole “I don’t date” but then proceed to literally date without labeling it as dating. And I didn’t feel like it was a healthy bond at all either.
Quinn was good but it made me so nervous to read how hard it was for her to set boundaries with Kyrell; she was so good at doing that with her family and it just didn’t make sense. But she was an interesting character.
I didn’t like Kyrell until the end of the book, but I did enjoy his development. The whole Elias storyline was great and incredibly emotional, I really liked it.
This book is absolutely incredible! It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, so be prepared. It has everything—comedy, romance, spice, and heartache. I laughed, cried, and completely fell in love with Quinn and Kyrell.
Starting with Book 1 really helped me understand Kyrell on a deeper level before exploring his inner struggles in this installment. While I enjoyed Book 1, this sequel was phenomenal from beginning to end. I stayed up way too late and found myself sneaking in reading time whenever I could because I just couldn’t put it down. There wasn’t a single dull moment. Every page is worth it!
I ate this book up! OMG the way this book touched on so many topics caught me by surprise. I truly enjoyed Kyrell & Quinn!! To me this didn’t seem like a slow burn at all & the speed of things were just right for my liking. I’m soooooooooo glad it ended the way it did despite the back & forth with everyone. This book was seemed like it could definitely happen & somewhat be based on a true story. I think Ky & Angel are my favorites so far. Mental health, grief, & trauma are all touchy subjects imo & it was all handled with grace in this book. Can’t wait to dive into Book 3!
A. E. Valdez you ma’am better write your book! I loved everything about this story. Kyrell and Quinn are absolutely adorable and steamy. No this may not be a “friends to lovers”. However, A. E. writes these growing friendships and bonds with so much emotion and hopefulness. You’re right there with them like watching a movie but on paper.
I love me some Kyrell and to see what he made of his life from what he had to deal with as a child was absolutely outstanding. The hurt, trauma, reopening of wounds to heal them, and finally knowing what love is was a journey. I would take the ride all over again. Kyrell’s growth is one for the books. Even Quinn had her own dealings with her parents and especially that mother’s of her. Being a daughter to a mother that wants you to play second fiddle to a man is demoralizing. Quinn never lost who she was and kept pushing. Became her own woman and such a sweet soul. I could go on about this book. Read it.
Loved: -Yvette got what she deserved. -The Mother. -The go kart scene. -Camping trip. -The restaurant/triple date. Lmao!!! -The motorcycle ride and so much more.
Favorite Quotes:

“An angel like you has no business tempting a devil like me. I will ruin you and not feel bad about it.”
“Sometimes all we need is a little light to shine through the cracks to make a difference.”
“Do you believe in fate?”” She asks, pulling up her shorts. I pull her back down to lie on top of my chest. I didn’t until an angel crashed into me.”
“She’s who i see everything with. She is everything. My everything.”
I know that’s right!! listen i’m convinced they may be my favorite couple so far idkidkidk. i’ll let y’all know when I finish the series completely. I know kyrell would have a special place for me when we were Introduced to him in All I’ve Wanted All I’ve Needed but now??? mhm. love him.
he had his moments where I was ready to swing on him but one thing I know he love him some Quinn 🫶🏽
Kyrell Knight is a major playboy with no intentions of slowing down. Indulging in as many women as he possibly can, he is not ready to take any one of them seriously, about the only thing Kyrell takes serious is his business, he is the owner of a weed dispensary in Los Angeles.
Although it may look like Kyrell has everything any man at his age could want, all the money and women won’t erase his painful childhood memories, but Kyrell would much rather forget about his past, than do the actual work to heal.
Quinn is about her business being raised in an affluent family in Houston. She moves to LA to start living the life that SHE wants to live instead of doing what is expected of her.
Quinn and Kyrell reconnect at their mutual best friends engagement party, they spark up a friendship that quickly becomes very steamy. Both dealing with a lot when it come to family and building careers the last thing they want is a relationship. But fate has other plans.
You guys… Kyrell is freaking hilarious!!! Y’all this book was funny, like it really had me laughing out loud at several different spots in the book. Do y’all know how hard it is to write funny characters?? It’s not easy but of course my girl Amanda DID THAT!!
I don’t know what to say about this book without giving anything away, I will say this Kyrell is not a perfect MMC, he doesn’t always get it right, he puts his foot in his mouth and he can be an asshole but doesn’t that just make him human? This book really touched on the human experience, how we all are just trying to show up in this world and put our best foot forward. For that I’M IN LOVE with KYRELL!
This book had my emotions all over the place, I laughed, I cried, I was pissed off, she really took us through it with these two. But what I loved about their love story so much was that it was real. It wasn’t tied up in a perfect bow. They went through their ups and downs, but in the end they find themselves right where they’re supposed to be.
I absolutely loved it! For Ky to have had so many different women I'm so glad there wasn't major women drama. Like that was an entire star for me. This book had my emotions all over the place. I recently lost my dad so it was hard reading those pages. I wish Olivia would have been able to see Elias before he left Earthside
Thanks for the ARC
