Oshi No Ko truly has my heart, this is such a good series! This volume is the Tokyo Blade stage production arc - where the main characters show off their acting skills, even if they themselves don’t believe themselves to be good actors. Can they overcome their personal setbacks? We, heartbreakingly, see more of Aqua’s PTSD flashbacks to his Mother (Ai)’s death; the more he dwells on the past, the more he wants to avenge her by taking down an important person in the entertainment industry, who he blames for her death.
"The actor who's written off as lousy - If they start doing something completely epic out of nowhere, it's dynamite." "As the opening day approaches, Aqua's stage debut is marred by the trauma of his past. If he can't draw upon his own emotions, he won't be able to deliver the performance that the newly edited script requires. As onstage factions fracture the cast, he and Akane put in hours of extra work to ensure they don't disappoint the audience-or lose to Kana and the top actor of Theater Lalalai!"
also, i need to see aqua's part in the play. it better be something cool in the next chapters, or all the build up with the rehearsals would have been for nothing
This wasn't as good as the last volume but still a lot of great parts. Getting to see a throwaway character actually becomes interesting was a nice surprise. His good looks got him far but it doesn't give him respect and he wants that. Also the ending was a great set up.
This has been a very enjoyable read. I like how the characters aren't just black and white. They're shown to actually realize their mistakes and reflect on them. It's something one can expect from a slice-of-life series, but this ain't one that's why it's cool to see it. So far, I'm enjoying Aqua, Kana, and Akane characterizations.
kana baby I love you but akane im rooting for you, you completely unhinged girl pop off. also melt is now my little wet kitten I want to put him in the microwave
Go !
Pertunjukan drama teater 2.5 dimensi akhirnya dimulai.
This was another good volume. Aqua is working through his PTSD so he can get closer to accomplishing his goal. That his goal is murder is irrelevant (I feel like I should be more concerned for him and that his ultimate goal is murder, but honestly I remember Ai and I'm kind of like, sometimes murder might be the answer). I do hope that he is able to develop a genuine love for acting though. I want him to have gained something after he accomplishes his goal.
We didn't get to see much of Ruby, but she was great in the scenes we did get. And I actually really like Kana, so seeing her rivalry with Akane has been great. Her pettiness (fueled by jealousy - both professional and because of Aqua) is honestly so funny to witness. I can't wait for the next volume, where we'll get to see the conclusion of their battle. I wish them both the best.
Seeing Akane act so intensely to beat Kana was interesting, yet for some reason, it’s off-putting. Yes, I understand that Kana, someone that Akane had looked up to only to discover the truth, was rude to her, but this attempt at trying to win against her feels like not being able to give Kana any redemption for her past self. This immature grudge that each other have could easily be solved with a conversation now that both of them are in the same industry and can understand the reasoning behind their actions. I don’t know why Aqua is trying to encourage this fight though.
The art style is definitely interesting now. I know that it’s only for the actors, but this manhwa/webtoon style keeps surprising me every time since it’s so drastically different.
We've deviated from the technical aspects of the play the characters have been working on and now we're really diving into their interpersonal and internal conflicts. I had a couple of issues with this volume. The artwork was great, but there weren't many defining characteristics between the characters so it was hard to tell who was who. Additionally, the pacing was off. I think I was expecting a little more tension and build up. While it was nice to get the background on specific characters, the story felt as though it was losing a little bit of steam. I'm going to continue the series for now, but I'm hoping that we get back to the heart of plot which is Aqua's quest for revenge.
4/5 We continue into the production of the stage play Tokyo Blade but were a lot more focused on the cast this time around. Though Ruby is still mainly missing. I hope they do more with her soon even when the story arc involves her she doesn’t ever seem to be the main focus.
In this volume Aqua struggles with emotional acting when his PTSD from past tragedies haunt him. We also get some great scenes with lesser characters like Melt and a really nice spotlight on the rivalry between Kana and Akane.
The lovely manga artists Yoriko and Abiko on the cover of volume 6.
Aqua tries to deal with his trauma while his method actress girlfriend (Akane) pieces together his tragic backstory. She is also actively competing with Kana to be the best actress in their stage play so there's tension on that front. Meanwhile, Melt and Aqua are struggling to find ways to improve their acting and...
I don't know if I'm the only one, but this volume felt really disjointed for some reason. Dunno if it's the book, the gap between volumes, or my own off kilter focus.
Blah. Way too hard to decipher which character is which, who is talking on each panel or if they are just thinking and not talking. Also some parts feel like flashbacks but it is very unclear unless the characters are children in the flashbacks. The overarching plot for the series is not progressing at all which is wildly disappointing. This series had such promise in the first couple of volumes but these last two have been pretty bad.
A very interesting and fun volume. I really liked seeing the one actor really deciding to take his acting seriously and how he was able to resolve it. My favorite part was being given more insight into the relationship between Akane and Kana. Especially as it focused solely on their connection and not on their relationship with Aqua. It had touches of "never meet your heroes" but I liked that it delved into it more.
Relationships and drama fill this issue. Not as thick as it has been at other times, but definitely enough drama for a single volume. This volume picks up where the last volume ended, with Aqua dealing with some seriously painful flashbacks that literally make him incapacitated. The more time Aqua dwells on the past, the more his thirst for vengeance becomes. Artwork solid and story engaging and entertaining. Another solid volume.
This volume continues to deliver very intense character driven moments. Watching Akane not only piece together what's been bothering Aqua and decide to help him through helped endire her as a character. From their the focus on the characters doing their best for the stage play and features two characters having what turns out to be a long overdue showdown.
Loh? Aku seperti melihat Sayuri di "Girls in the Dark". Suka dua duanya :(
wow this volume really was amazing. the character development is actually so crazy and i understand them so much more now! Melt deserves so much better and i just want to hug him :( also kana was lowkey a bitch and akane is badass
