What a wonderful story! Sue had a lot to decide about in the upcoming months. Formerly Amish, she had lived away from her Amish family for many years. In this story, we meet up with her as she has returned to the area as a ranch hand for a couple of months on the farm right next door to her family’s farm.

I liked the way Wilder recognized immediately that Sue was extremely good on a ranch and hired her right away. I thought he handled the news of her Amish connection to his neighbors really well. He was a man who had made some bad decisions in his past but was working hard to live a good, clean life now. I believe this made him even more understanding when he discovered that Sue was pregnant. It was fun to watch as he tried to make sure she didn’t do work that was too strenuous, while also respecting her as a strong and independent woman.

The attraction that grew between Sue and Wilder felt very natural. It was clear to me, the reader, that they belonged together. It was less clear how they could actually end up together with the pressure from the surrounding Amish community who wanted Sue to return and live Amish once more. I thought the author did a great job of bringing these two people together in a way that made sense. This book had a great happily ever after epilogue, too!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

A COWBOY IN AMISH COUNTRY BY PATRICIA JOHNS
A Cowboy in Amish Country
A Clean Romance
His new ranch hand…
Has a little secret
Ranching in Amish Country is both a challenge and a joy for Wilder Westhouse. Though he’ll never be fully accepted, he relies on his neighbors. Hiring Amish runaway Sue Schmidt as a ranch hand could cause problems, especially since her family lives next door. And falling for the beautiful and pregnant cattlewoman will strain relations further and complicate both their lives. Unless love can mend fences…and families.
This is Sue Schmidt and family's story.
This is Sue Schmidt and Wilder Westhouse's story.
THE SUN HUNG low in the sky, spilling golden light over Amish Country. Here in the heart of Ohio, almost all of the farms were Amish owned and operated, except for the Westhouse ranch.
Shadows stretched long across the farmyard, and there was a chill in the evening air, the smell of a bonfire in the distance. Wilder Westhouse leaned back against the fence, watching the job applicant’s technique.
Sue Schmidt had applied to work on the ranch for a couple of months until Wilder’s brother, Conrad, and his wife, Annabelle, got back from a well-deserved vacation. Anyone Wilder hired had better know the work—he wouldn’t have time to teach that much—and Sue’s résumé was downright impressive. In addition to her general competence, she was attractive in a way that had caught his eye. It shouldn’t matter—it didn’t really—but he’d noticed.
The calf struggled, but Sue put her weight behind the hook, and Wilder took the prepared ear-tag punch and quickly straddled the calf. He punched the tag in place. The calf jerked and balked, and when Wilder swung his leg free of the animal, Sue expertly released the hook hold. The calf ran back to its mother’s side.
Wilder looked over his shoulder at the pretty job applicant. She arched an eyebrow at him, and he noticed—not for the first time—her sparkling blue eyes.
“You seem to know the work,” Wilder said. And she was a far sight better than the other applicants.
I recommend reading.
A COWBOY IN AMISH COUNTRY BY PATRICIA JOHNS is a wonderful well written 5 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by PATRICIA JOHNS .

A Cowboy in Amish Country is book #2 in the Amish Country Haven series. It's written by the wonderful Patricia Johns. This is about Wilder Westhouse. He inherited his grandfather's ranch along with his brother Conrad (you get to read about him in book #1) right in the middle of amish country. Conrad and his wife have taken off for a few months, so Wilder hires a woman to be his ranch hand. Only problem is she a former amish girl and her family lives right next door. Sue Schmidt left the amish community 15 years ago. Coming to work on Wilder's ranch is a way for her to be close to home while she makes some important decisions. She's pregnant and the father doesn't want the baby. She is hired by Wilder while she tries to reconnect with her family. Situations arise and cause a lot of difficulties especially the feelings growing between her and Wilder. Can they overcome all these situations and find a happy ending for everyone? I guess you will have to read the book!
This is such great sweet clean romance if you love the amish and cowboys. I love both genres and I absolutely loved this book. Wilder is the cowboy that every girl dreams of and none more deserving than Sue. I cried at the end. It was so good and it has an epilogue. Which always makes me so happy. I hope that Patricia Johns writes another book in this series, but if not I'm glad to see that the Westhouse brothers' have their happy endings!

Come back to the heart of the Amish in Ohio, in this second book of Patricia Johns’ Amish Country Haven miniseries, A Cowboy in Amish Country.
Wilder Westhouse and his brother Conrad (you met him in book 1), inherited a ranch together right smack among the Amish. While Conrad and his new bride are away for a couple months, Wilder, who has been working hard to be a valued member of the community, has to hire a temporary ranch hand. He lands a hard working, competent one in Sue Schmidt, not knowing until after he offers her the job that she’s THAT Sue…the sister of his neighbor Wollie that left the Amish life over a decade ago.
Sue is back, but she’s hiding a secret. Her mother and precocious young niece are thrilled to see her. Her brother, with whom she’s always been like oil and water, is happy but wants her to commit fully back to the Amish life. It’s a real struggle for Sue to decide what she has to do.
While working alongside Wilder, feelings grow for one another. But can they let those feelings blossom into something more? How will it affect Sue’s relationship with her family? How would it affect Wilder’s budding relationship with his community?
I so enjoyed this sweet, clean romance. Patricia Johns’ Amish books are always a delight to read, and this one does not disappoint. Plus it has my favorite…an epilogue!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, but my opinion is entirely my own.

This book is one fans of cowboys, ranching, and cattle will enjoy. Sue accepting the job at the ranch next to her Amish family presented issues with her family and the community. Wilder was new at rancher and admired her ranching skills. Sue’s brother and family wanted her to come all way back home to her Amish life though instead of continue living an Englisher lifestyle. The issues facing Wilder and Sue gave way to some painful moments along with tender ones with others and one other. A Cowboy in Amish Country is descriptive, compelling and action filled that flowed easily with family and new beginnings for all.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author without any obligation to write a positive review. I have expressed my own opinion.

My review of A Cowboy In Amish Country by Patricia Johns

Coming home, after “jumping the fence” is hard.
Especially if for the last ten years you were a cowgirl.
Getting a job on a ranch is even harder when it’s next
door to your Amish families home. Decisions have to be made soon as to what Sue must do, especially with a baby on the way!

A very loving story about family and possibilities!

I have been curious about the Harlequin Heartwarming books for a while now. This was my first one to read. And I am glad it was Patricia Johns as I have enjoyed reading her Love Inspired books.

What draws me to her writing is the conflict in many of her books between the two cultures of English and Amish or between the traditional meek woman versus an atypical female character, both Amish.
In A Cowboy in Amish Country I got both: an ex-Amish woman who works as a ranch hand.

The strongest theme running through the book was the question of fitting in. Sue Schmidt left Amish life because it did not "allow" her to pursue her passion of working with cattle. Although she made the best of her life as an Englisher, she still was not quite prepared for all the pitfalls, and became pregnant. She believes now her choices are either to come back and become Amish and have lots of support or continue alone as an Englisher and enjoy the modern conveniences. She would not truly fit into either world completely.

Wilder Westhouse, a rancher who lives next door to Sue's family, hires Sue for a few weeks as his ranch hand. But this brings a lot of uneasiness into the local Amish community where Wilder tries so carefully get along as well.

The characters have a lot of serious conflict to deal with, especially Sue. But like the division says, these stories are heartwarming. And this one definitely is a feel-good tale.

Personally, I found it odd to read an Amish story about 99% void of any mention of God or faith and where the Amish were portrayed almost secular with their life centered around clannish family ties, untrusting community, and unyielding, rigid rules and traditions. I missed the faith aspect, and would prefer Love Inspired books instead.

But I am glad I did try the Heartwarming division because A Cowboy... is still a good, clean, and definitely heartwarming read, and Johns's storytelling is superb.

I received an advanced copy of the book for an early review. All opinions about this book are very much my own.

A delightful lighthearted read that touches on serious subjects but doesn’t weigh the reader down.

A Cowboy in Amish Country is book two in the two book series (book 1: A Deputy in Amish Country) but can be read as a standalone. I have not read book one (yet) and had no problem. Book one is waiting by my side.

Wilder is taking care of the ranch he and his brother inherited and needs to hire a part time ranch hand until his brother returns from his extended honeymoon. The perfect ranch hand applies and he soon finds out it is ex-Amish Sue whose family lives right next door. In fact her niece is a regular visitor to the ranch. Sue is hiding a secret though from everyone until she can’t hide it any longer. She is pregnant and trying to decide how she should proceed. Return to the Amish fold or continue as a single Englisch mom. Will love find a way to give Sue and her Amish family their wishes?

Romance stories like this one are a balm to crazy, stressful days. Once you open the book you are transported and calm returns to your soul.

This book touches on addiction and how it affects those around you and the struggle for the addicted to stay on the right path after coming clean. This touched me in a personal level due to a current family situation and helped me understand addiction more. Authors that can help a reader make sense of a real world problem through fiction are ones to read. That is a gift indeed.

I received a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions expressed above are entirely my own.

A Cowboy in Amish Country by Patricia Johns
Ok so what is the first thing you think about when you hear the word Cowboy?
Handsome, rugged, Wild West, roping , cattle drives, boots and hats. What about a cowgirl that could most likely out work, out rope and pretty much new the ranch work better than most of the men ranch hands.
Well in this book you will meet Sue who will prove that it’s possible to cross the fence and master the English world of ranching, however, is it possible to really leave your roots or are they always so ingrained in you that when trouble arises you realize that it’s the community and those same roots that you left that now will pull you back where you once thought you had to leave. Can a Community support and love you even thou your not within its borders or can they still find that same love just that side of the fence. And can Sue see the beauty in belonging to all that she once left and still hold true to what she feels is her true path?
With each of Patricia John’s books I am more drawn to her writing style. I was given a copy of the book for my honest opinion and I highly suggest you read this book it very good. I look forward to many more books by this author.

I must admit that I have only read a few of Patricia Johns' books in the past. Why? I'm not really sure, but I do know that after reading this one, there will be many more I will be reading of hers. At first, I had some trouble with mixing up two of the characters' names because for some reason they didn't separate themselves in my brain, lol. After quickly sorting Wilder and Wollie's names through, I got so involved in the story, I did not want to stop reading it. That says a lot for this book as I don't normally read digital copies because I love paper books, but I received an epub edition of Patricia Johns' upcoming book, "A Cowboy in Amish Country" because she ran out of paper copies. I tried guessing the outcome of Sue and Wilder's Amish/not Amish predicament, but Patricia Johns kept me guessing right up until almost the end. By the way, I did not guess correctly; but I loved the outcome! Run out and pickup a copy. You'll enjoy it for sure.

I enjoyed reading Wilder and Sue's story! Definitely NOT your typical Amish story!! Wilder and Sue meet when Sue comes to work on his ranch. After he hires her, he finds out she's his neighbor's sister. Wilder wants to make a go of the ranch he and his brother inherited, and he's trying to fit in with his Amish neighbors. Sue is returning to her home area, but not sure she wants to re-enter Amish life. Will these two be able to find a way to make their new love for each other work, and also be able to live in-between two worlds? Honestly, for me, this book would have been better if there had been mention of Sue relying on God, but she went left the Amish life, it appears she also totally left God behind, too, and in mention of Amish life throughout the book, there is no mention of their faith in God at all.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

One of the Amish Country Haven series, in which Wilder Westhouse has tried his best to fit in and be accepted by his Amish neighbors. When his brother is on vacation and Wilder needs help, he ends up hiring a woman! Turns out she's the sister of his nearest Amish neighbor, even though she isn't acting like a proper Amish woman. Instead, Sue Schmidt loves working with horses and cattle and when Wilder realizes she pregnant, he's not sure what to think, but Sue insists on continuing to do what he hired her to do: help him run his ranch.

But her family wants her to come back and be Amish again. Can Sue do that if it means she has to give up what she especially cherishes--her freedom to be herself?

Wilder loves her and says so, but what will Sue do? She needs the support of her family after her baby arrives. How will this dilemma be resolved?

I give this book 10 stars. I have read the majority of Patricia Johns books and I have to say this is her best novel yet! The story, the setting, the people and little Jane what a firecracker she is. Patricia manages to meld the Amish world with the English world in such a way that you want to be part of both. I love that the focus was on both worlds without taking away from the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story, a happy ending and loves, love!

This is the second book in Johns' Amish Country Haven mini series. Sue comes to work on Wilder's farm as a ranch hand while his brother and sister-in-law are on vacation. Wilder's ranch is right next to Sue's Amish home, which she ran away from 15 years ago. As Sue and Wilder work together, their feelings for each other grow, as does Sue's stomach, with her baby from a different relationship. Can two people with such different backgrounds make a life together?
