Ashley Hope is an average Southern woman, happily engaged—until dark secrets from her past tear her life apart. On track to join the state police’s violent crimes division, Ashley is assigned to a case near her hometown: a female, 22 year-old meth addict has been found murdered. Can it be the work of a serial killer?
While Ashley embarks on hew new life, going through the police academy, hazed by fellow recruits, the state police summon her, as they realize they need to make a rare exception and enlist her help on a case immediately. The murdered victim has been found in the backwoods, in a small, rural town neighboring Ashley’s own Grundy County. The locals are hostile to outsiders and police, and only Ashley stands a chance of getting through to its hardened folk.
At first glance, the victim seems like just another meth addict-turned prostitute, caught up in a routine drug murder.
But as Ashley digs deeper, she sees things that others do not, and suspects something far more sinister may be at play.
Ashley digs deeper, refusing to put the case to bed.
But if she digs too deep, Ashley, herself, may become the target.

3.5 stars. I like the series but in the first book, I began to get annoyed at the things that were repeated - it seemed maybe the author was trying to fill the pages. This was the same. Once you’ve told us twice something about Ashley’s former classmate or her fiancé, we get it and don’t need to hear it again. It’s also weird to continue to refer to Brett as her fiancé or Daniel as her partner over and over - just call the characters by their names. It could be that the dramatic way the narrator of the audiobook spoke made it more obvious and grating. Still, I’ll listen to the next one. I did enjoy the rural Tennessee setting.
A police academy student once married to a serial killer is asked to serve as a consultant with the police. Seems someone is abducting women and murdering them. She is a local and the crimes occurred in the small insular county where she was raised. They have a primitive form of justice much like the Hatfield and McCoys.
The actual mystery is good but the situation is preposterous. There is nothing about Ashley that would warrant her being involved. Silly.
Involved murder mystery with several well placed twists. The main characters emotions ramble but a fine narration helps save the dialogue and story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️🔅
After putting her heartbreak past her, Ashley is working hard to help her father and her brother to heal and investing in studying to finish her course at the Law Enforcement Academy. She still is not a police officer, however, Daniel, the agent that helped her chase her ex-husband, asked her to join him in the chase of another serial killer, the worst thing is, he is killing people she went to school with and knows. They follow several leads that end up dead until Ashley finds the one that will lead to the killer when she is looking through her yearbook. A mad race against time to find the latest victim begins and she is practically alone doing it. Will she succeed? Will Daniel arrive on time? With everything that is going on, will she be able to graduate? An engrossing and entertaining story that makes me look forward to reading the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 2nd in the series about Ashley Hope. Ashley has returned home, and is presently enrolled in the police academy. Her hope is to get into criminal investigation work one day. But, right now she has to concentrate and graduating.
She has been contacted by Special Agent Daniel Lansing, who you also meet in the first book. Daniel wants her to work as a consultant on a murder case. A girl's body has been found from Ashley's community, one that she knows. He is hoping that she had help interview and help with case as the people of the community don't trust outsiders.
Getting involved in this case will make Ashley a target. Too many of the girls that are being murdered are ones that Ashley knows from high school. Will Ashley get out of this one alive.
## Loved this crime drama. I had read The Killing Time by this same author and really liked her writing style and enjoyed the crime drama element of that book but couldn't stand the main character Alexa. So I thought I'd try this series. Ashley is so much more likeable than Alexa. Sure she made some rookie mistakes, but I suspect she'll learn more as her story progresses. This is a stand alone, however I would recommend reading book one first to get a better idea of Ashley's story. Looking forward to the next book in July.
Let me out by Kate Bold. An Ashley Hope Suspense Thriller Book 2. I did enjoy this book. Great story and characters. Had no clue who the killer was. I lived Ashleigh and Daniel. They make a great team. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.
Let Me Out (Ashley Hope Suspense Thriller #2) was a great read by Kate Bold. Ashley Hope is happily engaged until dark secrets from her past tear her life apart. She is set to join the state police's violent crime division. There is a 22 year old meth addict who has been found murdered. The state police summon her and enlist her help on the case immediately. It seems as though the victim is a meth addict turned prostitute. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
Not the best story I have ever read, and not the worst. It's just ho hum with a predictable plot, and I had the murderer pegged upon first mention of him outside the clown mask. A little out there-I mean who waits so many years to get revenge? Also Ashley is a little too competent for an academy student, and a little too reckless for anyone to take seriously.
Charming characters and twisted villains against the incredibly complex rural background. The story was scary and uplifting all at once, but you can’t stop to nice you start, so plan accordingly. I failed to review Book 1, so here’s a shout out to what promises to be a great series!
Ashley is busy training to become a state police officer when she gets drawn in to a case of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Fine, she's a local and so knows the locals. She keeps making inciteful leaps - that are then proven to be wrong.
Why is she praised time and time again when she is wrong?? Not trained enough
University and then police academy, how much education do you need. From what I've seen of police officers in America it would be a waste. Characters a bit thin and story line predictable but why oh why do we get books about young inexperienced officers doing their own thing instead of waiting for back up. And why is it always the female.
I have 3 stars for each book because I liked the premise of the story but, Beyond the point of believable in any situation Ashley found herself in. If you wanted to write about a strong woman then please atleast make it believable. I really just didn’t care for the writing style. I almost felt forced to continue to read.
I hope this author keeps writing and keeps their books free. If I Could I'd give all her books 10 stars. They have you from page 1 to the very end. I hope I get to read her next book.
Loved the storyline in the first two books so far. But, why does the female cop charge into the fray without backup, get into trouble then wish she hadn't, only to repeat the same stupid manoeuvre again and again. So predictable.
The book had so many twists and turns so hard to put down. I loved the fact there were no cuss words or very few. So many authors to day seems to think they have to swear. I loved the book
Well written mystery/thriller about Ashley Hope as she is in police training and solving murders in her small town. Some parts were expected but still good. This is the 2nd of 6 in the series. I like it enough to keep going…
Ashley is growing up. She has the potential to become a major investigator but she is still totally impetuous. I adore her kinda partner. I have my fingers crossed where this is going. I approve. Kate Bold has done a rock solid job developing her family’s dynamics and personalities and the mountain folk work.
Love the cases. Love the characters. Fast paced, thrill ride! Hope is a strong willed woman but isn't your run of the mill hero. She's smart and brave but also edgy and spontaneous. Can't wait to start book 3!
Bold is a good author. It was a smooth read and the characters are likable. I did guess the killer in chapter 16, but it did not ruin the ending like some books. I appreciate Bold's story telling and am excited to read the next book.
An okay read, lacked the suspense of a good detective book, seemed like the author was writing a stand alone book rather than a sequel of a series so wouldn’t be interested in reading the next if it’s a similar vibe of retelling the previous stories.
Great series! Love Ashley Hope !! It has good stuff......serial killer, struggling for Ashley while she is learning police procedure s. I recommend the book!
This is just nice Discovery! I absolutely loved first book and second was the same good. Intense, fast, realistic and full with action. Definitely recommend and going to look for the third book now❤️
This book kept me guessing the whole time. The carators brought the right amount of interest to keep you on your toes. Could use a little more romance.
