The Ruthless Series #1

My Ruthless Opponent

Rate this book
I never thought I would ever end up sharing a bed with Raleigh Jackson—my co-worker.

My archenemy.

My Ruthless Opponent.

The said enemy once taunted me by saying, “Everything is fair in love and business, princess” with his cocky smirk.

I reckoned those words to be empty until he proved otherwise one day. The day when our boss announced a promotion we both had our eyes on.

I was bursting at the seams with eagerness to crush him under my 4-inch stiletto. There’s only one spot for the alpha in a pack. And that spot belongs to me.

But I underestimated RJ. Because he was a step ahead of me. He is always a step ahead of everyone.

He went after the client I spent months chasing by introducing himself as my fiancé.

One thing led to another and chaos commenced as I found myself on an island with my fake fiancé.

When we spent seven long days and six nights in close proximity, hate turned to passion and snarky remarks turned into dirty talking.

They say never mix business with pleasure. But it was too late. Because now, I am falling in love with my devastatingly handsome rival and his deceptively charming dimples.

The million-dollar question is, does he feel the same way I do? or am I just a pawn in his well-planned ruthless game?

NOTE - My Ruthless Opponent is a STANDALONE in The Ruthless Series.

Wow! This is some serious enemies-to-lover action going on here! It’s INTENSE!

May be an image of high-heeled shoes and sandals

Hannah and Raleigh were fierce, individually and together. They both had a background that had to be protected at all costs. While Hannah’s was something that occurred later in life, Raleigh’s was the type of thing that would leave a child broken and an adult man incapable of claiming what he wants. Watching them maneuver their way through their own scheme was at times humorous, often filled with steamy goodness, and occasionally heartbreaking.

May be an image of 1 person, people kissing and pool

This had a lot of push and pull to it along with the highs and lows that accompany those actions. That added a higher amount of angst to the story. The smexy times were HAWT, and some of the secondary characters were the catalyst for a lot of the actions this couple took.

Overall, a good read, especially if you love the fiery push and pull in this particular trope.

ARC Review
Came Out: March 31
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Office Romance, Fake Dating, One Bed

"𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔, 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔"

The story was great. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters in this book. I LOVED Raleigh. I think the banter between Him & Hannah was perfect *Chef’s Kiss*. The chemistry between the 2 of them was also great. You’re able to feel it immediately. I really enjoyed this read, however the reason I gave it a 3.5 is simply because I felt like the writing was a bit repetitive at times. For instance, one of the side characters, Summer, has Heterochromia (2 different colored eyes) and this is mentioned like 5 times in the book. Then there was a page where Raleigh’s name is written WAY TO MANY TIMES.

But overall I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. Both were developed really well. I hope these sisters write the next book about Archer. I LOVE Archer! And I really want to know why he is so against liars (I know it has to do with Summer. Since she’s a liar. lol).

ARC Review! Marking as containing spoilers just in case.
I’m in LOVE with this book, especially RJ! The plot is very unique, one I’ve yet to see in romance/smut books and I was so impressed! Who doesn’t love a good enemies-to-lovers in a forced engagement!? The main character’s back stories were integrated in a way that really flows, as well. The smut was hot, the plot was great, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. The read wrapped up in a way that I wasn’t expecting, and ended up working out in the end overall. I’ve already been recommending this book to others and will continue to do so! Thanks for the opportunity, I loved this read!

OMG this book was so, so, so cute!!! Raleigh and Hannah were amazinggggg!! The whole enemies/rivals to lovers + fake-fiance and that entire charade was YUM. The passion, the chemistry and the plot was pretty good too. The writing was a bit off and seemed repetitive at places but other than that, I’m so happy all of them got their happy ending in the end!!

Plot : ⭐⭐⭐
Story :⭐⭐
Spice : 🌶️🌶️
Rating :⭐
Tropes : enemies to lovers, workplace romance, office romance, contemprary romance.
Pacing : medium. (But i struggled finishing the book, since I already had two to three books in my currently reading shelf and that hindered me from fully understanding the pace, this book was boring me, but it was good?)
Characters : i) Hannah : Hannah the “ice queen” as everyone knows and sees her, i liked her, but not too much, because the plot was boring me, but as i kept reading further, i understood that there’s more to her than what she lets on. And the rivalry between her and Raleigh, i liked that too, how she does not let Raleigh have his way, she fights for what she wants, hard exterior, soft interior kind of girl. Hannah visiting her dad in the hospital, taking care of him, while also hiring a detective to find the man that destroyed her life as well as her parents’s. Hannah was not able to meet ends meet, but she never gives up on her dad, or her project with Raleigh. She tries her best at work and at home too.
ii) Raleigh : okay, I have something to say about this man. When the books started, i thought ray was a man who has gone through shit, and yes he did go through a lot, I read “my ruthless husband” the third book in the ruthless series before this one, so i knew background of what Raleigh suffered and how Damian helped ray and simmer both when they were in the orphanage. Though what i loved about ray was his dirty mouth, I thought he’s the soft kind of man, but the spicy pages surprised me.
iii) summer : okay, I will say this again and again, but I did not like summer and I will not read her book, because she is infuriating to me.
What I loved : i loved ray, and his filthy mouth, and how ray and Hannah worked together on the contract to get a promotion.
What I struggled with : I did struggle to understand how Hannah fell for ray, maybe it was because I was too distracted or what, but i didn’t like the plot so much. I was almost about to dnf this book, but decided to know what all that mystery about Hannah lockwood was about.
Loveable characters or not : likeable. (For me)
Strong character development : yes, they go from enemies to lovers, other than that, i don’t wanna say anything more.
Plot driven / character driven : my motivation to finish this book soon.
Favorite quotes/ highlights : “I want you to glare at me, while i suck your cunt” (time to hide)
Similar authors : I suggest reading the other book by the same author “my sugarless husband” it has alternate present and past scenes, but you’ll enjoy reading if you enjoy soft, kind, shy heroine, and scary, billionaire romance, childhood lovers to enemies to lovers? (Because she loves him, than she hates him, while secretly loving him, and hurting herself? Well, you have to read it to understand the story between them)
Any other details : i loved the third book in the series more than i did anything. I loved only book which exceeded five stars for me, and that was my ruthless husband, which i stumbled on while scrolling my files and loved reading it! And the two stars are only for Raleigh.

description

This is my first book by this duo and OH, MY! It was so much more fun than what I was expecting! This definitely was one of my favorite books of 2022 so far, specially because of the authors portrayed the characters. So let's get int it.

We have Raleigh Jackson. He's one of the Creative Directors of KIM Advertising - One of the biggest advertising agencies in LA. Yeah, you read it right... One of them. The other is Hannah Cooper, the princess. His nemesis. They hate each other since day one, and being the way he is, Raleigh tried every single thing possible to make her go away, but Hannah is driven by a force he has no idea about its strength.

Hannah and Raleigh come from opposite social spectrums and because of that, he created an image of Hannah that couldn't be further from the truth and Hannah doesn't get why he's so mean towards her, however she has no time to understand or break his walls, Hannah is on a mission.

When the opportunity of becoming the ONLY Creative Director of KIM Advertising shows they have to join forces to conquer a difficult client, and in that moment the sparkles finally show. Giiiiirl, Hannah and Raleigh are FIRE. They just can't understand where it's coming from, but they just keep going.

I really enjoyed both characters. Hannah is a tough girl with a soft heart (even tho she doesn't back down from a challenge) and Raleigh is that grumpy and ruthless guy everyone loves for some reason (me included).

Also, even though it's a short timespan between the beginning and the end of the book, the evolution of their relationship doesn't feel fake or forced, so you proceed smoothly until the end of the book reveling on their never ending banter.

This book is everything! Specially if you like fake relationship, enemies to lovers, office romance and forced proximity.

This book got me like...whoa! I've read a lot of books of this type and all I can say is...sometimes books just hit me differently and this one most certainly did! In the best way possible 🥰

I enjoy enemies to lovers, but sometimes I harbor a lot of hatred towards one or more characters and it deters me...I'm a very emotional reader (I guess that's the point) 😒

I fell in love with Hannah & Raleigh instantly. They are two very strong MMC's fighting for the same work  position for two very different reasons...they both carry emotional and psychological baggage from their pasts that drives them.

While Hannah is dubbed the "ice queen" I didn't find her that overbearing...but did at times felt myself saying "girl, chill TF out" 🤣 I think most of the time Raleigh deserved it.

Raleigh is this uber sexy, confident man with a chip on his shoulder who worked his ass off to get the Director position...he feels threatened by a smart mouthed, sassy woman who is always up to challenge him...Hannah.

Raleigh and his dirty talk 🥵 Ugh! Give me more!! Enemies to Lovers sex is the absolute best 😉

Loved how their journey unfolded and appreciated seeing into both of their pasts...you realize why they are the way they are. I could picture myself right there beside them every step of the way...I feel like I need to visit Hawaii now 🤣

If I could give this book 10 ⭐ I would. Sanjana & Nidhi killed it! First time ever reading one of their books and will definitely read anything they put out. Keeping eyes peeled for the rest of the Ruthless series 🖤

One word explosive! There is just something about an enemies to lovers that is so damn hot and this one burns in the best possible way!
Raleigh Jackson and Hannah Cooper are heads of two creative teams at KIM advertising agency. When the owner decides to merge both teams into one creative department only one will get the promotion and remain director. They are given a short amount of time whichever one brings in a new client will get the title. Unbeknownst to them they both have their eye on the same client and the only way either will have a shot at the new contract is if they fake an engagement and agree to promote the clients luxury resort in Maui with their very own wedding….
Raleigh and Hannah crashed from day one. I loved the dynamic between these two. When they go head to head you feel the animosity and hurt. Their rivalry is both entertaining and kind of hot . The writing really draws you in, you want them together because the chemistry is obvious yet the fierce competition has you wondering which team you want to be on. Then as the layers are pulled back and you find out each have painful pasts and secrets that made them who they are you want them to be each others strengths.
This is truly a well told story of two competitors that have built a wall around themselves to keep from getting hurt and slowly realizing that each of them are tearing the others walls down brick by brick. It is a Heartwarming story with a lot of passion, steam, banter, drama and angsty goodness. I cried, I laughed and fanned myself more then once. It’s witty and entertaining and just an overall awesome read⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rating 3.5-4/5
Plot 3.5/5
Spice 3/5
Character Development 4/5

[I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book]

“My Ruthless Opponent” is the first book in the Ruthless Series by Sanjana Nidhi. This book tells the story of Raleigh Jackson and Hannah Cooper and follows a rivals-to-lovers, enemies with benefits, and fake dating/marriage of convenience trope. Hannah and Raleigh are the head of two creative teams at KIM advertising agency, however, the company is in the process of merging the two departments, which in the end, will leave one spot for the head of the creative team. The two compete for the spot and when Raleigh goes after the client that Hannah has spent months winning over, Raleigh introduces himself as Hannah’s fiancé. One thing leads to another, and Hannah and Raleigh are set to be married at the clients' hotel located on a tropical island.

I enjoy enemies-to-lovers and rival-to-lovers however at the beginning of the book Raleigh pranks Hannah and I wasn’t a fan. That being said, I did enjoy the relationship between Raleigh and Hannah and I appreciated how they cared for one another. The plot could have been developed a bit more as I felt there were several storylines going on but not enough context. Although the writing didn’t flow as well while I was reading, I did appreciate the tropes and topics mentioned (I love a good nightmare scene). Archer talks about why he doesn’t like liars and I wish we knew more so hopefully, he gets his own book and readers get their answers.

Hannah is beautiful as well as smart, but life handed her a bad deal, so she has had to remake her self and is finally working her way back up. She stays private and is all about her success, so she is known as the “Ice Queen”. Raleigh is your sexy as sin dirty talking alpha male. He also has had to learn how to make it on his own which is why he has the moto of “Everything is fair in love and business”.
One day the head of the company says he is going to merge the two departments they are the head of and they either have to co-direct or someone need to land a new client in 2 weeks. They both want to win and are willing to do about anything to get it.
A lie turned into spending seven long day in close proximity while also a sharing bed. They were ruthless, hateful, passionate, snarky, funny with lots of dirty talking.

I will say I love a good enemies to lovers on top of a fast burn. Hannah and Raleigh were hot and were always pushing each other’s buttons. I will admit I was teary eyed through a few parts because it was hard to hear about Raleigh’s past. With these issues that were talked about, they were explained and worked through well. I am looking forward to reading more from these ladies.

imma be honest i didn't actually finish this i never meant to idek why i picked this up im in a bad space of mind when it comes to reading and books in general so sorry to the author the book is bad and its not meant for me i can't rate it higher just hope i get out of this self sabotage scheme ive been playing for over a year and start reading books that i actually like, even love and become obsessed with bc that's a rarity lately all my fault obviously sigh this turned into a therapy sesh but hey my new year resolution to not continue with this brain rot isn't going so well after all, as seen with this particular example hate to say it but i think romance is the problem like it has eaten my brain wholly again its not a pitch on the genre! its just been a bad effect on me and i need to let it go and expand my reading venture its all psychological really a quick fix, something to be instantly gratified with but it isn't good for me, hasn't been for the longest time and i hate it and myself y'all its also the reason i haven't been reading much didn't hit the goal last year... kinda not surprising with the way i was handling work too but ngl i had time and i wasted it on shitty romance anyway so sorry to this author i stg im going bye

🚨ARC REVIEW
This enemies to lovers, fake relationship story was a fantastic read. Having met these sister authors from my Instagram account and having them asking me to read their books and review them I couldn’t help but fall in love with their writing. The storyline was amazing- you’ve got one sexy ass alpha male- Raleigh Jackson and boy is he described as fiiinnnne. Ruthless is exactly that- this dirty talking all alpha male definitely has a sweet and protective side and it made me love him even more. Hannah- I mean started from the bottom and now she’s working her way back up after a tragedy struck her family- but she keeps her life super private and let’s people label her the “Ice Queen” and she’s far from it.

These two dominant characters are fighting for a certain role in their company that they work for and what better way to get the promotion then to fake it all and still sees who comes out better on top? What could possible happen with a vacation in Maui and a “fake dreamy date, a grand proposal and a wedding?” Well- find out and read this book!

I’m so looking forward to many more reads from these ladies!!! If you haven’t checked out their work please do!!!

I received this as an advanced copy for an honest opinion.

First, let me say I love a good enemies to lovers book. Now, in say that, I sometimes found Hannah a smidge to bitchy. I am all for standing up for yourself, but a few times, she pushed the limit. Am I saying Raleigh was innocent no not at all, which is why this was a good enemies to lovers.

Hannah had to fight for things she wanted due to her past, but she overcame it. This girl pushed through her limits and didn't let them hold her back. She took care of her dad, worked her ass off, and still maintained her boldness. This girl was a queen.

Raleigh didn't let anything hold him down, including his past. My heart broke for him due to his time in a shitty foster home. He busted ass to succeed in the corporate world. Did he have a chip on his shoulder hell yes, and sometimes it did piss me off.

This story was good, but I felt that, at times, it was wordy. After reading their story, I'm hoping the next book is Archers and fingers crossed it involves Summer 🤞

I really enjoyed this novel and the start of this series. I liked RJ's character when he was introduced in Sinful Love and I loved to see his story.

The novel follows RJ and Hannah, who both work as creative directors at a marketing firm and lead rivaling teams. Due to their competition, their boss offers a promotion to only one of them if they secure a new client or they have to share the promotion. This leads to them becoming Fake Fiances and the story goes from there.

I found this to be a very good Enemies-to Lovers romance because they are really enemies at the beginning of the book and their rivalry is shown. I loved how we can see their dynamic change and how they fell in love with each other. It was also great to see them support each other and help with their demons of the past.

If you are looking for a fantastic enemies-to-lovers romance with great smut scenes, definitely check out this book.

🌸🖤BOOK REVIEW

Oh my lungs. Raleigh is ruthless, sweet and just 🥵 all in one breath.
This book gave me all the feels. The enemies, forced proximity, fake engagement, with a twist of haunting pasts. I devoured this book!

Hannah wears a mask of perfection and is a total girl boss when it comes to her job.
Raleigh is cut throat and nothing will stand in his way for a promotion.

Both fight the urge to let the other have an upper hand and their banter was fun to read.
I loved their 3 round plan and how most of the book takes place in Maui.

The side CHARACTERS also all fit into the story so well. I want to be friend with them all. Sometime books with a bunch of characters can take away from the storyline, but they all played an important roll and I loved it!

So excited for book 2!!

An enemies to lovers / fake fiancé masterpiece! If you are a lover of these tropes drop everything (including your lengthy TBR) and pick up this book!

The first in a series, it focus’s on Hannah and Raleigh (which is such a sexy name) and their workplace enemies to lovers romance.

Hannah was a hard working creative FMC and Raleigh thought her the “ice queen,” but what he didn’t know is she was struggling with issues emotionally and financially and an unfaithful BF - who wouldn’t be an ice queen dealing with all that?

The spice in this book is definitely 🌶🌶🌶 with all the pent up tension.

Truly a great read! Very excited for the rest of the series to come 😏

This book was absolutely delicious, I was enthralled from the first page and finished it in one sitting. It checked all my boxes, it has romance, enemies-to-lovers, a bit of angst, and mystery. I loved Hannah, FMC, she was a great strong independent, yet multidimensional person. And, believe me it worked so well with this story. Now we have Raleigh, MMC, he was your typical alpha-hole but, ooohhh, did he play his part well. I was drooling and swooning over him almost the entire book, I loved him because he also had a caring side to him as well. This was an amazing read, and you must read it now!!

The was a workplace enemies to lovers read. Raleigh and Hannah started off on the same Creative team until she excelled and was awarded her own team. To Raleigh and his team she was stuck up privileged ice queen. But that was from the truth, she may have appeared that way but she was in struggling financially, physically and emotionally especially after finding her boyfriend doing the dirty deed with someone else when he claimed to be sick. When Raleigh and Hannah end up in a situation their hate for each other amps up the heat/steam between them. A good enemies to lovers read. Entertaining storyline.

I received this copy via the author and my honest review is voluntary.

I received this book as an arc via the authors. I loved the main characters Hannah and Raleigh. They had such profound back stories that you really couldn’t help falling in love with them, you understood why they were the way they were. This book had a little bit of everything, if you love enemies to lovers, or fake dating tropes you are going to LOVE this book! The spice was just enough for the story, and the romantic elements were perfection. This was a great book and my first from these sister authors, and it will definitely not be my last!

A HUGE thank you to this amazing author for sending me this ARC to enjoy!

This book was wonderfully written and the plot was well thought out. Both characters, Hannah and Raleigh, were likable and each of their respective stories pulled me in effortlessly. This was a page turner. I loved the fake fiancé angle and the one bed trope is always a good time 😉 Hannah’s take no crap attitude and Raleighs cunning “I’m always one step ahead” demeanor were perfect complements! Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!

ARC Review: Raleigh and Hannah’s story was everything you could want in an enemies to lovers/fake fiancé book. It had the perfect mix of lust, love, hate, spice, and even a bit of mystery. You could feel the push and pull of these characters as they tried to keep the masks they put in place or be true to who they are. The ending itself was perfect for this couple.

Looking forward to the rest of the series!!

It was a really great read, with great characters!!!! I absolutely loved the HEA!!! I totally recommend this book and I for one cannot wait to read the next in the series!!!

started off okay but just got worse as i read on… lots of grammatical errors and the story became more predictable and boring by the end. also constantly calling yourself the “Ice Queen” is so cringe and the enemies to lover origin could have been better executed i feel like they just became enemies for the sake of it and lovers just because they hooked up and said 1 nice thing to each other by that point.
