After 30 years working with adolescents, I found 95% of Sadac's work as applicable to raising any healthy teenager. He encourages parents to be open-minded, open-hearted, intentionally listening, to ask more questions than give opinions and be supportive while setting clear and reasoned boundaries. While put in the structure of parenting LGBTQ+ teens, virtually all his advice is what healthy parents do for their kids.

That said, if one is a novice to the LBGTQ+ world, there's a great deal of information on terms and resources one would need to understand the world of their child. From that perspective, this book would be a great benefit for a parent entering the life with a non-heteronormative child.

Overall, a good book for any parent, of note, those with LBGTQ+ teens.

Well Written

I got the hard copy of this book and have highlighted a lot of useful ideas and concepts to use both as a parent and a clinician. The exercises were insightful and the book is laid out beautifully!
Thanks for a needed resource.

I'm a parent of a trans son. This book is OK but basic and a little dull. The information is fine, and it's a good length for a new parent looking for a simple resource. It addresses gay and trans issues together. Personally I found a trans-specific book more helpful when my kid first came out: The Transgender Teen by Stephanie Brill.

It's a great overview but it's a bit reductive.

Good but basic. Might be helpful for beginners or grandparents.
