There’s a place in Texas the locals avoid, where the lost go missing and the damned reside. You won’t find it on any map, there are no road signs to guide you, and if you have the misfortune of finding it, may God have mercy on your soul. Run, run as far as you can, for when The Scarecrow wakes, the harvest of blood begins. Welcome to Donn, TX - Gateway to Hell.
1926
The town of Donn, TX holds a dark secret. A secret Sheriff Charles Pike must navigate to keep the citizens, and most importantly, those he loves safe. As the town grows, Pike realizes prying eyes are taking interest in the strange activities surrounding Donn, TX.
In the end, it doesn’t matter. The citizens have long given up on the notions of right and wrong. Deals have been made, and promises must be kept. For in the end, there is only the harvest.
I'm an indie Horror writer who lives deep in the heart of Texas. When I'm not writing novels and stories for anthologies, I'm doing the bidding of 3 adorable huskies. I've been married for over 20 years and have a teenager in the house, so I won't be running out of horror material for quite some time.
Wow this installment of Donn TX I think is the best yet. The story leads you in several different ways but in the end it all comes together nicely. Perfect amount of gore and a lot of mystery. This series is great that you don't really have to read them in any order.
I don't think it really matters which order you read this series. I read them by order of publication, meaning this was the last one of the series that I read. I'm sure some people might read them in order by the year on the cover, which would make this one their second read. By reading this series in publication order, I got hints and tidbits of past events that unfolded like a mystery. In the 1865 book, we got a full grasp of what was happening. In this book, we find out why the motel is there and why there's even people still in this creepy little town. In all honesty, if this were real life, I would move the furthest from Texas as possible LOL>
Butler adds some food for thought in this one. If it were possible to make a deal with a devil, and if you could have something you truly loved, how far would you go to complete the deal?
Edit to review: Just found out more books of the series are in the works! Yay!!!!
Never sell your soul to the devil. This sequel scared the hell out of me. I don't want to see any little kiddies dressed up as scarecrows for Halloween!
Eric Butler is a very talented independent horror author that, in my humble opinion, any horror fan should be paying attention to. Eric has written several works such as The Shadow Within, The Pope Lick Massacre, Sins of the Past, and now the Donn, TX series. Between my lovely wife, Brandy Carroll, and myself we have read his entire works to date. Butler is a very humble, talented, and extremely gifted author that really deserves more attention. He is an author that if you haven’t been reading his books you should rectify that immediately. You will not be disappointed!
Donn, TX 1926 is the final entry of the first Donn, TX Collection. It is also the longest entry. However, the story is expansive. Many characters intertwine in this excellent entry. Butler again produces a thrilling story while expanding on characters, the feel of the environment, and has the reader even more vested in the town of Donn.
Sheriff Pike is preparing for the harvest season, and attempting to keep things running as smooth as possible. However, when citizens of Donn, TX encounter some obstacles Pike is determined that they do not fail. Every inhabitant of the cursed town holds a stake, but what each person’s deal is not always known town wide. What will become of the town folk dwelling in Donn? Will the sheriff fail to see to a successful harvest?
Donn, TX 1926 by Eric Butler I must absolutely give five crows out of a five crow murder. This entry really exhibits Butler’s skill and talent. Not that the previous entries do not, but Eric is meticulous in making sure the stories are cohesive. With a nonlinear storyline he flawlessly executes each entry, and makes certain that they all weave a perfect pattern.
There are some pretty icky characters in this book. The longest of the series so far, more of an effort is made in this installment to include a little character development. Which would be good, if, as I said, most of the characters weren't icky. After all that, you may wonder why I'm giving it 4 stars. The characters were nasty, the story is gross, yet I couldn't stop reading it. You can't argue with that.
I don't know how Butler keeps doing it, but this one is just down right creepy and bloody. As it is a short, it is hard not to give away any spoilers in a review. But yeah, things sure are messed up in Donn, TX. That scarecrow.... shudder.
I am loving these books. Love the scarecrow! See if the scarecrow gets his quota. And the introduction of a new very disturbing character who makes the ending amazing!1
I'm disappointed that this book had been on my TBR list for such a long time. I'm also disappointed that I hadn't read anything by Eric Butler sooner. The story was great, and I learned I have a fear of scarecrows 😂🤣.
