Day of Decision: The Battle of Badr
The definitive account of the Battle of Badr, considered the greatest battle of mankind – this new book combines scholarly commentary with on the ground research (Dr Mostafa travels to all the locations and corrects many notions of previous accounts). In the Qur’an it is called Yawm al-Furqan, ‘the Day of Decision’. In Ramadan 2 (March 624) two armies met at Badr, a remote spot in the Arabian desert. A small but well-equipped army of about one thousand pagans was defeated by just 313 Muslims, ill-equipped but divinely aided and spiritually unconquerable. To quote the author of this book: ‘To outsiders, this would have seemed no more than a minor skirmish between desert tribesmen. Neither the combatants, nor the location, nor the outcome had the least importance in the eyes of the wider world, where in those days the two major powers were the Persian and Byzantine empires.’ And yet there is ample reason to consider Badr the most momentous battle in history. Had the leading Muslims not survived, there would have been little prospect of Islam, the last true religion, surviving. The world’s history would have been unimaginably different.
Dr Mostafa Badawi is a leading authority on the history of the Sanctuaries of Makka and Madina and has spent years exploring the Hijaz region and studying its topography. In ‘Day of Decision’ Dr Badawi also brings to bear his mastery of the sources: Hadiths from the most authentic sources; works of Sīra (Prophetic biography), and accounts by early Muslim Arab historians. 44 books41 followersDr. Mostafa al-Badawi is a scholar of Islamic sciences as well as a consultant Psychiatrist and member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Dr. Badawi is one of the leading contemporary translators of Islamic books from Arabic to English. He has translated the 10 treatises that constitute the complete prose works of Imām al-Ḥaddād, Key to the Garden by Habib Ahmad Mashhur al-Haddad, The Degrees of the Soul by Shaykh al-Shabrāwī, and a collection of Bā-Alawī treatises recently published under the title Spiritual Insights.
الدكتور / مصطفى حسن البدوي ، ولد بالقاهرة عام 1948م ونشأ بها. تخرج من كلية الطب جامعة القاهرة تخرج الدكتور مصطفى حسن البدوي بكلية الطب، جامعة القاهرة، عام 1971، ثم سافر إلى بريطانيا حيث حصل على زمالة الكلية الملكية للأطباء النفسيين بلندن سنة 1983. ويعمل منذ ذلك الحين استشاريا في الطب النفسي. أخذ عن كثير من العلماء من من الأزهر الشريف وفي الحجاز، وله إهتمام خاص بالسيرة النبوية، وعلم النفس الإسلامي، ومظاهر الحضارة الإسلامية في مختلف بقاع الأرض، وعلامات آخر الزمان ومدى تطابقها مع تطورات العصر الحديث...

Simply put a must read on the battle of Badr. Skilfully bringing together the fate of three parties, the author displays a scholarly understanding of first hand historical sources and intimate geographical knowledge of the desert terrain. By bringing together the two disciplines of history and geography Dr. Mostafa present a renewed understanding of the Battle of Badr, that seek to challenge, shed-light and bring clarity to previously established timelines on the battle of Badr.
