Motley Crue's gleeful glam debauchery and unstoppable anthems have made them metal gods, selling over 72 million album copies worldwide and landing their band biography The Dirt on bestseller lists around the country. Mtley Cre isamazinglythe first photographic history of the band. Legendary rock photographer Neil Zlozower's images capture the band's rise from their breakthrough album Shout at the Devil through rock 'n' roll excesses to follow with the unprecedented all-access candor of a friend to the band. In hundreds of photographs and stories from the band and those close to them, Mtley Cre reveals them onstage, backstage, on tour, hanging out, and in studioa must-have album of photos and testimony on one of the most powerful and controversial bands in rock history.
An awesome picture book. That’s about as much review as I’ve got in this case. Zlozower incorporated a few inserts from various folks about their relationships with Motley Crue over the years (not particularly interesting or well written), as well as a few thoughts from the band members themselves… But, as the title pretty well sums up, this is a visual history. And the visual parts are brilliant. Which is good, since that’s really the whole purpose, is it not?
I enjoyed this quite a lot. As always, I'd like to have had more words but there was some stuff here I didn't know much about and they had a good selection of entries from people we've not heard much from before, such as those who helped or designed the clothing. All in all, a worthy addition to the Crue chronicles.
the photos were quite good, mostly photoshoots and concert pics. but I really wished they had added more off-the-cuff and candid shots, the type that tell more story than just a posed glammed up shot. the interviews, well, one or two are pretty good, some actually have no business being in this book.
popsugar reading challenge #21 doesn’t hold up the way it did in middle school since i’m not obsessed with them anymore but it’s still a very pretty book. nikki was the most photogenic
Only thing I can say about this book is that it is well documented in high quality pictures full of outtakes from the most important part of their careers as a band. I am somewhat envious because I am a photographer and enjoy anything that I can get my hands on when it comes to photojournalism. It is all good though, because 100% of what you see in this book was all done on professional film. You have to be really good at what you do.
This book is amazing in every aspect an if you love music, rock, metal, and Mötley Crüe this is the book for you. I recommend this book to anyone who loves music. Mötley Crüe: A Visual History, 1983-1992Neil Zlozower
4.5 stars. The only reason I don't give this book 5 stars is because it should have really been a COMPLETE visual of the band rather than just Neil Zlozower's photos, but it is very cool nonetheless.
