I may have lit the match the first time, but I won’t be the one left burned this round. The elites run this town, but they aren’t ready for a girl like me.
Especially the boys who’ve made it known from the beginning I’m not wanted here the one summer I stayed with my father. I don’t belong—I know that—but now I’m coming back. Forced into the one place I despise after my addict mother unexpectedly dies. Four months before my eighteenth birthday.
The worst of them all is my half-brother’s best friend. The leader of the group. My enemy. Those hate fueled-cerulean eyes still haunt me in my dreams. He thinks he can break me, but what he doesn’t know is I’ve already been shattered.
I hope they’re ready because I’m not the obedient, delicate person they remember. It’s my turn to watch them simmer. Welcome to the world of the hellhounds.
You’ll hate it here.
SHATTERED PRINCESS is a full-length new adult high school enemies-to-lovers novel. It is the first book in the Hardin Hellhounds Series and does end in a cliffhanger.
First off, I would like to just start by saying I finished the book a few days ago and still have yet to recover! *Silently melting into a tub of goo at the excellence of this book! 🫠🫠
From the moment I read the blurb for Shattered Princess I knew I was going to be in for a crazy ride! I got all giddy inside with excitement because just from this little snippet it had everything I could want!
Bully Trope✔️ Elite Bad Boys✔️ Brothers Best Friend ✔️ Badass Female MC ✔️
I’m a sucker for all these tropes so this book was right up my alley and it did not disappoint! It only took me reading the first chapter to realize I was obsessed with Rory already. Amber Vant does an amazing job of sucking you in and creating such relatable characters that Im not sure how you couldn’t help but be suckered into falling in love.
I mean can you blame me when we have Rory whose mother unexpectedly dies months before she’s 18, and she’s forced back into the world that she despises. Not only to live with her wealthy father who abandoned her after only getting to know her for a summer, shes also now moving back in with her step mom who despises her, and a half brother.
Then if that wasnt bad enough we have Cole, her brothers best friend, the leader of the hellhounds, the main love interest, and finally Rory’s enemy. Cole *insert swoony sigh.* He is the perfect asshole alpha but I couldn’t get enough of him! I loved everything about him until I didn’t.
Shattered Princess is everything I could have hoped for in an enemies to lovers story and more! I didn’t know I needed this book in my life but now that my eyes have been opened to to gloriousness of Vant’s writing I can’t look back!
Cole and Rory I won’t be able to forget you anytime soon!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank You Vant!
Shattered Princess is a full-length new adult high school enemies to lovers book, and does end in a cliffahanger. You’ve been warned. 😏
God my reading lately has been so up and down. Finding anything unique is becoming like a needle in a haystack. This storyline has been used time and time again. So for me this book didn’t stand out above the rest.
This is usually my go to type of genre where I seek my angsty stabby thrills but this was lacking in that area. The characters were run of the mill, they didn’t grab me by the feels, and I didn’t connect like I was hoping to, It also took me a bit to get used to the authors writing style as in some places it was all over the place and repetitive in others.
At this stage I won’t be reading the next book in this series.
Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶.5 Themes: Bully romance, enemies to lovers, high school romance
Aurora “Rory” Hale has had an unfortunate life — with having two parents who couldn’t care less about her and living in trailer barely making ends meet with her work at a diner. That is until an unexpected guest pops up at her workplace and says that custody has been transferred to her father, at his request. Rory hasn’t seen her father in 4 years, and the sudden interest in her life unsettles her. Confronted with ghosts of her past, namely a blue-eyed, demon of a man Cole,Rory makes it known that she is a different person than she was last time she was here. No longer a shy, quiet little girl she quickly makes a name for herself. But when confronted with the attention of Cole Kessit and the truth of why she was sent away all those years ago, will she bow under the pressure and finally break?
What I loved: The MC, Rory, was absolutely one of my favorite characters i’ve ever red. She has a strong personality but isn’t stupid when it comes to saying no or standing her ground. I think her and Finn’s reluctant friendship was one of my favorite parts of the book. Also the romance between her and Cole felt very genuine to me, and I really sped through this book
What I didn’t: My issue with books like this is even though I love them, I have to be critical in the fact that they all sort of blend together. This was not an exception. This was very much like every other bully romance I’ve read and I just wish it had a little bit more that set it apart from the others.
Overall, I’m really impressed by this book. As my first NetGalley read, it really did set my expectations pretty high. I liked this book a lot, and you bet I’ll be checking back in August for book 2!
Thank you Amber for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Reason for bailing: Grammatical errors galore. Reading is no longer fun when I’m bracing myself for the next sentence missing, oh, I don’t know, something fundamental?
“The welcoming letters a sham”
“The tangy carbon smell the perfect distraction.”
“His mirthless chuckle gut-wrenching”
So we’re just doing away with words like “are” and “is”? Cool cool cool.
When peppered in sparingly, this ‘rule breaking’ sentence structure can certainly be effective. Use it *constantly* and now I’m questioning the skill of the author.
And then there are entire paragraphs of staccato fragments, like this one:
“To shrivel away into oneself but still be breathing. Trapped inside your head like a prisoner. Purgatory of the brain. Numbing the pain internally. Even as the world continues to live around you.”
I liked how relatable Rory is as a character. Usually you see the H cowering under the bully but Rory was never afraid to stand up for herself and it was a nice change of pace! I can’t wait for book 2 and will be on the lookout for more Amber Vant books in the future!
This book is perfect for people who love enemies to lovers! Cole and Rory’s story was so intense. I couldn’t put it down. That cliffhanger at the end 😱🤯🙊 All I can say is I want book 2 now!!
Wow Amber Vant! All I can say is what an intense ride that was! 🤯 Shattered Princess is a High school bully romance that kept me on my toes until the very end!
An addicting first book in the series that has everything I love in a good romance! It was twisted and suspenseful and had me captivated from start to finish!
A whirlwind enemies to lovers romance set in of world of privileged Elite alpha males better known as the hellhounds and Rory the girl who threatened to get in their way.
Both Cole and Rory were so well written and had unique circumstances that developed the longer they each tried denying what they are to the other!
A perfect read for anyone who’s a fan of new adult bully tropes or enemies-to-lovers. I regret nothing about diving head first into this book and am not looking back!
Usually you see the new girl getting bullied or being constantly harassed. That's not the case with Rory. This heroine didn't need any saving, she got that done all by herself. They try a bit in the beginning but it quickly ends. The reason is because she has three guy's always watching out for her; Cole(love interest), Finn(half-brother), and Eli(long-time friend). Rory is bold and afraid of nothing and no-one. We're given a couple answers, but left with a few questions as well. I have a feeling that all the secrets the parents are keeping are about to blow up in their faces in the next book. Can't wait for Broken Heir to come out.
Wow, Wow, Wow!! It’d like to thank Amber Vant for this incredible read. I have been in a bit of a reading slump lately but this book was everything I needed. I was hooked from the first chapter. ❤️
If you’re a fan of Bully, paper princess, or the fallen crest series than this is the book for you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I couldn’t put this book down. The character suck you in and you feel everything they do. This is a story about a girl, Rory, who has been through almost anything you can think of. She has always made it through because she is strong and never gives up. She has had so much loss in her life she doesn’t know who to trust anymore. She is thrust back into a life she once had for a fleeting moment. Eli her best friend back when, Cole who always pestered her, and her half-brother Finn who has a terrible attitude at first, Will Cole be the one to break down her walls and will Rory I return break down Cole’s? This book ends in a cliffhanger and you will have to read the second book of this series, which comes out in August of 2022, to see what happens next. I was given an ARC on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley and I received this ARC for an honest review!
I don't typically love a bully romance book but this one has changed my mind. I forgot this was an ARC at one point and looked for the second one. I can't wait!
Triggers: Assult, Bullying, sexual content. This is NA
This book is about a girl, Rory who was living on her own being forced to live back with her dad, and when she gets there her half-brother, Finn, and his best friend, Cole, basically bully her. Eli, being her friend on a previous visit doesn't really stick up for her but doesn't bully her himself. The bullying only occurred a handful of times though and then switches over to trying to get her to hang out with them and having her become close to them and making her one of them. This is the part I felt was rushed and the whole time the MC is wanting the person who bullies her, its almost like she enjoyed it because it was Cole.
I am very impressed with this book, and how the author made her MC not a victim but a survivor and someone who stands up for other people. I loved how strong her MC was, and how she didn't whine about everything. I hate those kinds of MCs. The storyline has potential and I bet we will see that more during the second book. I am glad the author used dual POVs for this, I love seeing how the other characters think, and maybe why they do what they do, especially her bullies. I could not put this book down, I highly recommend it.
Why I can't give it 5 stars. Sometimes I felt like there was no concept of time, or maybe a bigger question is: How did we get from hate to love? I couldn't tell that there was a gradual shift. One moment they hate each other the second they love each other, it was a bit confusing.
It ended on a cliffhanger, which I only love when the next book is already out :D but overall I did love this book, and I will be reading the second one as soon as I can. If you want a quick easy read that may touch on issues, that you can't put down and leave you with a cliffhanger. Then this book is for you!
I was send an eARC of this book through Netgalley, so thank you so much to Amber Vant for it.
WOW. What a plot twist. I was mind blown and I cannot wait for book 2. I really enjoyed reading this book. I was intrigued from the start. I loved the plot, the characters and the romance.
Rory is an incredibly strong girl, who’s life has been full of struggles. And enter, Cole, her stepbrother’s best friend and the person who’s been responsible for the majority of her struggles. He is very closed off and mysterious. And yes, this is an enemies to lovers romance, which always makes it even better. The development of their relationship was really good. I enjoyed the back and forth bantering so so much. Also… I don’t know if it’s only me but sometimes I become even more intrigued about the side characters’ romance, which kind of was the case in this book. I really hope there’s gonna be book about them in the future.
Overall, the start of the book was a bit slow but after the whole introduction stuff it gets really interesting. I couldn’t put the book down and read the rest in one sitting. Definitely recommend reading it when it comes out. February 2nd!! Mark your calendars.
I need the second book NOW!! Vant knows how to write one twisted enemies to lovers book! I read the entire thing in less than 2 days! Ugh, is August here yet?
The hellhounds have me all up in my feels!!! Rory is our feisty heroin who will refuse to back down even if that risks getting herself in trouble in the process! Cole on the other hand doesn’t demand anything but obedience and so when they finally do get together it’s like 🤯❤️😭
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Shattered Princess was one of those books that way too easy for me to devour. From the very beginning, I was intrigued in Aurora. She may have been viewed as an underdog for most of her life, but she should never be underestimated. Life was hard and she adapted as well as she could. So, when the rug got swept right from under her. Well, she wasn't too keen on moving back in with daddy dearest.
Along the way, we meet Finn, Eli and Cole. One is her half-brother, one is a friend, and then other a love interest. The three boys make up the Hellhounds and they have some serious power within their community and school. They aren't too happy that she's back in town, but they will learn to get over it. Eventually.
Along the way, little secrets come out to play and romances start to blossom. The drama kept me engaged and I'm pretty excited to see what is going to happen next. Especially after the little cliffhanger towards the end. I also have a feeling we still have so many secrets to reveal and maybe they will make my head explode. Still, I'm pumped for them to find her and bring her back home.
Ooooh i really liked this book. It is the first in a series and the first romance book i have read that ends in a cliffhanger. So now of course i cannot wait foe the next book!
This book very much gave me Corrupt by Penelope Douglas vibes. Totally different stories, but there are things in Corrupt that I loves that I found I loved in this book too.
Our main character Rory, has lived a tough life and has always been there for herself. I loved seeing her open up with other characters in the book, mainly Finn and Hailey. She is a very strong, independent female character who is true to herself no matter the situation she is thrown in and i really loves that about her.
Cole, our bad boy, is full of mystery. You start to figure him out towards the end, but I am unsure if he is even sure of himself. So i am excited to keep seeing his character growth in this series.
There a some unanswered questions in this book and it has me wanting more. I really do recommend reading this book!
I love me a feisty heroin and Rory is just that. Her half brother Finn cracked me up the entire book and I kind of hope the author writes a spin-off for him and Hailey! I ship them as much as I ship Cole and Rory❤️
Amber Vant has hit my top 5 authors. Her writing keeps your attention and you feel for the characters. Her writing is one where you're telling people hold on just one more page. To be honest I was sad when this book ended and can't wait for the second book Broken Heir.
This book follow Rory a teen who has only herself to count on, since the people around her keep letting her down. This forces her to be jaded and hard. Rory is forced to go back to her dad's Abram. Who abandoned her. This is just one of the many bricks in Rory's hard road she has. The Hardin Hellhounds are the boys who run the school and town and come from money. There is Fin who is Rory's half brother and someone who can't stand Rory and shows it in anyways he can. There is Cole, who despises Rory for unknown reasons. Lastly, is Eli who was Rory's friend before she was forced to leave the first time. When she left he started hanging with Fin and Cole. These three make up the hellhounds.
Coming from money has its own pressure and issues and Cole has seen and felt it first hand. Rory has been handed one slap after the next and can't catch a break. What she doesn't know is both her and Cole have secrets that will alter everyone's life. The hellhounds boys need Rory's help with a plan. Cole can't stop thinking about Rory and he will fight the attraction no matter what. Rory is drawn to Cole, but hates him and all he had done to hurt her. But fate and one mistake after the next forces them to address there feelings, but can both let down walls and push aside their torment? Will they let their secrets stop them from becoming who they are?
I was sent an EArc from NetGalley, So thank you to amber can’t for this! If you like bulky romance this is for you. I also really loved Rory, she was a great main character. If you liked zodiac academy you will love this book!
The cover for this book was stunning and is honestly what first grabbed my attention, however once you start reading Cole and Rory’s story…I don’t want to give any spoilers but just know once you start this book you won’t be able to put it down!
Shattered Princess is a romance/ mystery with a little bit of thriller let’s be honest! Something I was NOT expecting at all going into it!
It is dual pov, which I love and follows our main characters Rory and Cole. Although Cole has a POV this is Rory’s story, everyone else is just side character lol!
While Rory is staying with her father one summer, a mysterious incident takes place, blamed upon Rory, her father sends her back to live with her mother. But 5 years later, when her mother dies, Rory’s absent father forces her to rekindle their damaged relationship, and Rory moves back into his mansion.
This move means she’ll have to go to the local EXTREMELY private high school with her step brother and his friends, who show no sign of making her life any easier (one in particular ;) aka Cole)
This book had quite a slow start, but around halfway through it picked up and never was dropped down again. The twists and turns were constant, the ending… mind blowing and came from nowhere!
I loved seeing these relationships grow and evolve throughout the novel and absolutely cannot wait to see what is to come with the rest of this series!
Thank you Amber Vant for sending me this incredible arc!!
I was send an eARC of this book by Netgalley so thanks to them and to the author. I want book 2 NOW!!! Really that wasn’t bad at all! I would describe this book as After meets Off-Campus but 10 times better and without a d*ck like Hardin (the name of the fathers’s company tho😭). I enjoyed this very much and would recommend it to romance readers!
Shattered Princess (Hardin Hellhound Series) by Amber Vant “No one cares that the monster might be as trapped as the locked away princess.” ~~~ CW: Sexual Assualt mentioned, High School Bullying, Sexual Context-THIS IS A NEW ADULT NOT YA! This was another first for me, and I still can’t believe it happened to me. I binged read this entire book in one night; now to some that probably sounds like nothing. But no book has ever made me do that. The detailing in the plot hooked me right away, the characters and the way they interacted with each other was addicting. There were a few things that did get me though, the grammar. There were a few grammatical errors that should probably be addressed before it is really let out into the public. Another is that even though the chapters follow two Point of Views; there are about 5 main characters. Sometimes it’s confusing who’s talking during the chapters; and some minor details for specific events. Meaning certain important events were missing key details to make sense of what was going on. But then later on it somehow all makes sense; so maybe it was me and my tiny mind. But I absolutely can’t wait for the next book, the cliffhanger for this book was great. Also did I mention that this was another extreme ENEMIES TO LOVERS? Thank you so much Amber Vant, Netgalley, and Victory Editing.
I received an ARC of Shattered Princess by Amber Vant through netgalley.
Shattered Princess is the first book of the Hardin Hellhounds series. This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I really enjoyed it. I love the tension between the two main characters, Rory and Cole. It’s dual POV, so you get to see both character’s thoughts, which I enjoy. When we meet Rory, you can tell she’s been through a lot and doesn’t trust easily, for valid reasons. The author did an excellent job of tugging on my heartstrings with Rory’s character. Sometimes I wanted to reach through the book and give Rory a hug because of everything she’s been through. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but there is a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. It leads to a cliffhanger at the end of the book. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I won my first Goodreads giveaway with this book. Sadly, this book was a disappointment. The author's writing style is just so irritating. She writes in fragments all the time. For example, "Making conversation after the waitress takes our orders." Just write "we make conversation after the waitress takes our orders". It may not seem like a big deal at first, but when it's done multiple times on a page, it starts to really become annoying.
I don't care about the heroine Rory either, who ditched the beautiful name Aurora to be called Rory. (Seriously??) And the romance isn't drawing me in either to keep reading more.
Originally picked up this book because the cover is gorgeous but quickly fell in love with Rory and Cole once I opened the pages! Especially Rory because I’ve always loved a main character who can stand her ground and Rory never disappointed.
Hoping this will be a long series because I’m ready for more hellhound reads!
This follows Rory who is forced to live with her rich and estranged father and half brother after her mum dies.
She had previously spent one summer with them but was not allowed to return because she had accidentally started a fire that destroyed part of her dad’s property.
Even as kids, her half brother Finn and his best friend Cole were not very nice to her and bullied her around. So when she returns, they both start where the left off and continue to make her life hell.
Cole and Rory definitely have good chemistry despite him being so mean towards her but they both have secrets they are keeping from each other.
I don’t want to go into the plot too much because I don’t want to spoil anything but I think one of the reasons I didn’t enjoy this as much is because it’s set in high school. I think I’ve slowly been enjoying these sorts of books less and less so this is mainly a me issue rather than an issue with the story.
This was an advanced readers copy so it’s not always the last draft, and I understand that, but there were too many grammar errors that were very obvious to me in my first read through of the book so I would like to think an editor would’ve picked up some of these mistakes.
The book ended on a cliff hanger but I don’t think I will read the next one. I think this genre is just not for me.
Thank you NetGalley for sending me the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
