On a mission to a desolate world they face a terror aeons old.
Stuart had never imagined himself in such an isolated but beautiful place. But on this lonely planet, he meets her. As well as something else unexpected…
She hadn’t volunteered, but she was selected for Mars exploration so many years ago. She’d never had a choice. Can she and Stuart handle the unexpected, forbidden torture they find within each other?
Their ally is an eccentric genius: an artificial-intelligence, foul-mouthed, surfing-obsessed Hindu. Together, they make first contact with an alien. The creature climbed out of its pit to hunt them; their only option is to confront it deep below.
Can they vanquish this ancient threat to humanity? Will they survive?

Stephen Makk is the author of 20 books, including the bestselling USS Stonewall Jackson Series and The Tom Hilton Series. He mainly writes thrillers about technology and the military, with hints of romance. His protagonists are male and female, playing the imperfect hands they’re dealt.
How to write like a Makk… Take the mind of a fish, any fish (he’s an experienced diver). Add an engineer, simmer for years. Sprinkle on liberal helpings of strategist, astronomer, historian and anthropologist. Bring to the boil and let loose. You need some Makk on your bookshelf!
Deepika walked home from school with the annual school report which her mother would most like criticize. She passed, but her only good score was in science – which her mother thought of as frivolous and useless in the fields that she would be going into. Her mother read aloud a comment meant to shame her. “Deepika is a dreamer.” It brought true joy to Deepika that her teacher inadvertently saw the truth!
Maya, taking a walk with her grandfather, sees a hawk practically hovering and asks how that can be? Her grandfather explains how the bird actually rides on the thermals. Her inquisitive mind soars with the bird as her grandfather teaches her about the world around her as they wandered back home.
Years later, Deepika finally got an opportunity to lead a big scientific project. As with many such projects, the pressure to produce in a very short amount of time threatened the continuation of the project over funding issues. But she was encouraged by her mathematics friend to trust in her creative abilities and others would follow her lead. She will know when the right time has come.
In the introductory pages, the author paints a very realistic picture of the cold, desolate environment of Mars, and the loneliness and desolation it invokes. The reader is surrounded with the detail and drawn into this inhospitable place which sets the tone for what is to come! The character development throughout the book was well done, letting the reader get to know those characters by their words and actions rather than just descriptions of them. It was a very effective way to handle that. My only criticism was that punctuation was definitely needed; however, it did not deter from following the flow of the story line. By the time of the Mars mission in 2069, the reader is ready to see the characters deal with the unknown they will be facing. I definitely recommend this book. It keeps your attention and the detail is amazing!
An SM. SYFY. Adventure/Horror Story/Earth to an Unknown Planet
SM. has. penned a DAY novel with a surprise twist. Generally, SYFY. takes are a figment of the imagination. After reading SM. Submarine novels it is hard to believe he is not serious with the plot. At first the novel reads as a typical canned SYF Y novel, but you will change your mind and shake your head at the twist. Jumping off of Earth to an unknown planet is a story in itself. However, wait for it, the twist will make you think of the possibilities. This is an excellent read for the genre....DEHS
