This is a prime example of the childhood friends-to-lovers trope executed brilliantly. The author masterfully navigates the delicate transition from friendship to romance, skillfully avoiding unnecessary drama and contrived obstacles that often plague similar stories. Instead, their evolution into a couple feels organic and seamless, making their relationship all the more believable and relatable.

In this particular volume, the narrative beautifully intertwines the themes of career advancement with the deepening of their romantic bond. I absolutely loved the insightful discussions surrounding ballet, which added a layer of depth to the characters' aspirations and passions. Interestingly, the boxing conversations also drew me in, showcasing a unique juxtaposition that enriched the story.

From the onset, the dynamic between Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi resembles that of an old married couple, and I mean that as a heartfelt compliment. Their comfort with one another radiates warmth; it’s clear that they share a profound love and mutual respect, allowing me to savor every moment they spent together. The chemistry between them in this volume was absolutely sizzling; I couldn't get enough of it. Their interactions were electric, filled with tension and palpable attraction that made every scene engaging. Jiang Shen, as a protagonist, exudes nothing but positivity and warmth; he truly embodies the quintessential 'sunshine character’ that brings light to the narrative.

Bai Jinyi complements him perfectly as the ideal boyfriend, but what I appreciated most was the author’s determination to develop him beyond just a romantic figure. He is portrayed as a fully realized individual with his own goals, dreams, and personality, which adds another layer of richness to their relationship.

Together, they are a perfect match, and I couldn't help but adore every aspect of their journey. In conclusion, this novel has left an indelible mark on me, filling me with warmth and joy. I’ll always look back on it with fond memories and a smile on my face, grateful for the experience it offered.

“Wherever your heart goes, your love will find a home.”

I love these characters so much. All the ones from the previous volume and the ones introduced here: Shen Junyi, Jing Luoyun, Liu Xingzhi, Song Xin, Ai Lai. This story is just so special and I want everyone to read it.

The confession😭

“Bai Jinyi.” Jiang Shen’s voice was slightly husky as he maintained his kneeling posture, his words soft and trembling, “I love dancing, just like how I love this rich, fertile earth, the joy of harvest, the drizzle in the mountains, and my friends and family.”

“But I love you even more.” He swallowed, each word clear and direct. “My soul is forever unable to be free, because it belongs to you.”

Please do yourself a favour and read this duology💜💜💜

”Your star, where is it?” Resting his head in his palm, Jiang Shen looked down, straight into Bai Jinyi’s eyes. Bai Jinyi did not respond and cupped Jiang Shen’s head. On the grass, under the moonlight, their lips could not bear to part. With his forehead pressed against Jiang Shen’s, Bai Jinyi panted softly, asking quietly, “What about your star?” Jiang Shen smiled, placing his palm against Bai Jinyi’s chest. “My star? He’s right here.”

ah it was so satisfying to watch all these lovely characters grow up and achieve their dreams! there was barely any conflict but i was perfectly okay with that–despite the lack of true plot going on, i was entertained the whole way through.

the romance was sugary sweet! i can see why they fell for each other. the friendship/familial dynamics were so wholesome, i loved how supportive everyone was 🥺 the fact that the whole village adores little swan (and richie rich bai) was adorable. it’s been awhile since i read a novel where i completely loved every single character that showed up

anyways, the extras were adorable the main couple was adorable the story was adorable the whole thing was just adorable!!!!

aside from the grammar inconsistencies, i feel like the scenes are rush and before i could even appreciate the present scenario, it will immediately shift to a new one. the plot is all over the place and i'm not satisfied on the way it ended. this could've been better.

Reading 经久 has been one of the most fulfilling literary experiences I've had. I set aside all my pending tasks and spent the entire day immersed in its pages, and I regret nothing. I am overwhelmed with happiness, pride, and immense gratitude. Not only for Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi, but for every character who played a part in their story. I don't even know where to begin, except to say that I'm fully satisfied. I never realized how much I needed this book until I finally read it. Now that I have, I know their story will stay with me for a very long time, perhaps for the rest of my life. I'm really deeply grateful. Every character felt real, full of depth and emotion, and I found myself rooting for each of them.

“Wherever your heart goes, your love will find a home.”

Technically, the writing is incredibly well-written in a way that it was very rich yet accessible. The imagery, especially, stands out: vivid, poetic, and immersive. Especially, ballet scenes. They were enchanting. Every performance was alive with energy and meaning, and each dancer had their own grace and allure. The author's ability to paint scenes—whether it's the stage, the grasslands, the village, or the galaxy above—is simply breathtaking. I truly felt transported to every place the characters touched.

I really love the security and dynamic of Jiang Shen's and Bai Jinyi's relationship. And one of the aspects I loved most about them was their habit of exchanging pre-battle prayers. Quiet moments of faith in each other, paired with simple requests to come back safely. Their devotion not only to their respective dreams but also to one another is one of the most touching and intimate elements of the novel. Their love feels steadfast and sacred, not loud or dramatic, but deeply rooted and fiercely protective.

And the ending of Salad Days also isn't loud or dramatic, but it's enough. It's quiet, gentle, and filled with an overwhelming sense of peace. Beneath the stars and moonlight, Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi find their way to each other not through grand gestures, but through quiet closeness, shared glances, and hearts finally at rest. It's the kind of ending that lingers like warmth on your skin, soft but unforgettable. It's more than enough to me.

Honestly, I have no particular criticisms. I only have endless praises. I like this book that much. Moreover, I want to acknowledge the author's afterword, which was as moving as the novel itself. The sincerity, care, and warmth radiated through every word. You can truly feel how much love was poured into creating Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi's world. I feel incredibly grateful to have been invited into it.

Though this may seem out of place in such a serious reflection, I must say, their intimate moments were... amazing. Jiang Shen’s flexibility, combined with Bai Jinyi’s focus and strength, made for scenes that were both sensual and affectionate. If this were an ABO universe, I believe Bai Jinyi might have given Jiang Shen a whole litter already! Thankfully, we’re in a normal world where ballet careers can continue uninterrupted. Or so we think, haha! Let's hope Jiang Shen can go on his little breaks with Bai Jinyi more often. Have mercy on our Little Swan, Richie Rich Bai!

“From the moment he discovered he liked Bai Jinyi, he had never felt regret or pain over it, even when he felt lost.”

The blossoming relationship between Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi is the highlight of this book for me. They communicate clearly and are 100% sure that they'll remain together, no matter what fate throws their way. Little Swan is as sweet as ever, but he's also incredibly brave and certain of his feelings.

Xingzhi, Jiang Shen's shixiong, turned out to be one of my favorite characters. I love his no-nonsense approach to everything he does, his appreciation for hard work, and how he ended up having a lot more in common with Jiang Shen than he expected.

I'm not sure if it's the writing style or the translation, but some parts were genuinely painful to read, and I had to push myself to finish them; it felt inconsistent with the first book, almost as if it were written by a completely different author. I also wasn't a big fan of the extras; they felt even more out of place in terms of writing style. Additionally, there were occasional abrupt time skips that left me feeling confused.

Even so, I genuinely appreciate the author for writing a story so full of love and hope.

More like a 3.5/5 ⭐. Where can I sign up for The Little Swan Ecological Protection Organization?

Salad Days Vol. 2 is a continuation of the heartwarming and emotionally nuanced story that began in the first volume. While it retains the charm and purity of the previous installment, this volume takes an unexpected turn, blending innocence with deeper intimacy. The novel explores themes of hard work, recognition, and personal growth, all wrapped in the lives of its compelling characters.

The story shines a spotlight on Jiang Shen, whose dedication and perseverance are finally acknowledged, defying the dismissive notion that success stems solely from “talent.” This commentary on envy and effort resonates across industries and adds depth to the narrative. Bai Jinyi, on the other hand, is both frustratingly childish and impressively clever, a combination that keeps readers intrigued and amused throughout.

The romance in this volume is unexpected. What begins as a seemingly platonic and pure connection evolves into a profound relationship, with moments of passion that are both surprising and tastefully written. For a novel where one might not anticipate smut, the intimate scenes, especially involving a ballerina, are shockingly vivid and memorable. Bai Jinyi’s cheeky nature adds humor and spice to the story.

However, the novel does have its shortcomings. The repetitive use of “speechless” and similar expressions quickly becomes tiresome. While it was amusing in the first volume, its overuse in this installment dilutes the humor and impact. Additionally, the narrative is highly predictable, following a straightforward and almost formulaic pattern. There’s little room for angst or drama, which might make the story feel bland for readers who crave more emotional highs and lows.

Qin Wanjun, however, emerges as a standout character, embodying the ideal of a supportive and loving mother. Her words of wisdom and encouragement are not only inspiring but also serve as a reminder of the kind of parent many aspire to be.

The novel’s ending is a mixed bag. While the main story leaves readers hanging, the extras provide much-needed closure and continuation. However, the final extra, featuring characters from the author’s other works, may be confusing for readers unfamiliar with those stories.

Despite its flaws, repetitive writing, typos in the extras, and a lack of narrative complexity, the novel has a calming quality. It’s a gentle read, suited for a quiet afternoon with tea. While it may not be a book to rave about, its light-hearted positivity and simplicity have their own charm.

Our boys are growing, and so they are exploring their individual dreams and their relationship together. Just like Volume 1, I love how wholesome the characters and their relationships with each other are, portrayed via both the main and side characters.

(One small difference from Volume 1: presence of spicy explicit content 👀)

It is such a balm to read for me personally, because it distracts me from real life struggles with... less wholesome people, but also reminds of those who are genuinely by my side, people I am always grateful for.

This volume was even better than the first since it dives into the romance it develops so well I also loved reading about the boxing and ballet dancing it is a really good story. There are so many great characters in this story but I especially loved Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi I loved both their romance and the development of their chosen sport and dancing I loved how they interacting with those around them they both were such great characters. The plot was really interesting it picks up where the last volume left off telling of the MCs relationship and how well each of them does in ballet and boxing. I also loved that the extras expanded things as well as giving the other characters great happily ever afters.

Salad Days proceeded quite linearly, there weren’t a lot of unexpected scenes—it is a mundane story, perhaps a bit utopian, but very “warm” and comforting.

The second part of this comfort read was simply just as wonderful of a read as the first part. We continue to follow the entire cast of characters and the romance between Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi continues to evolve as they finally make progress with their dreams and burgeoning fame in their respective fields. The extra stories after the end of the novel were fun to read as well, since it involved a few of the other characters that I came to care for and love.

For anyone who wants to know, yes the two lovers do have sex in the story and I felt that it was well deserved!

Lets be honest. Either the writing or the translation is terrible. Did I still devour it in a day? Yes. Did I love it? Yes. So if you are not too high-brow about a complicated, engaging story and good writing, go ahead and read it.

This second volume continues Jiang Shen's journey in both the world of ballet and the world of romance. Where the first volume focuses on the start of Jiang Shen's dance studies and how the people around him support him as a child, this volume focuses more on him finding his own dreams in ballet and also determining his true feelings for Bai Jinyi.

Since this volume primarily takes place in Shanghai, where Jiang Shen becomes a student of Shen Junyi's, we sadly do not get much time with the original gang in the first volume. Instead, we get to learn more about characters such as Shen Junyi and Jiang Shen's seniors, Jing Luoyun and Liu Xingzhi. Although I was initially sad about the lack of Goumao and the rest of the gang, the secondary characters introduced in this volume were still quite a strong cast. In fact, despite having a terrible first impression in the end of the first volume, Liu Xingzhi is now actually my favorite character of the series. (Is it fruitless for me to continue to hope we get a story for him and Mr. Pu? Even just a short one?) Liu Xingzhi, despite his harsh words and countenance, proves himself to be a good senior who defends Jiang Shen when necessary and pushes his junior to do his best. I adored his character.

We also get to glimpse Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi's domestic life in Shanghai, since they begin to live together - though at this point, while they clearly have feelings for each other, they're still not actually together yet. As was the case with the first volume, you get little glimpses into their daily lives that don't exactly constitute a plot, but are still charming regardless. Does their cohabitation feel realistic, especially since they're two teenagers who live with minimal adult supervision? Maybe not, but those moments never failed to give me butterflies in my stomach. Ah, young love!

And while majority of the series remains wholesome, we do get an extra story with spice. If you're someone who regularly reads stuff on the more erotic side, I'm happy to report that one of the extras is basically just pure smut. On the other hand, if that's not your thing, I think that particular extra - the second one - is easy to skip without losing out on too much.

Dreams are the central theme of these series, and this volume follows Jiang Shen and, to a lesser extent, Bai Jinyi as through their teen years, and they work even harder to achieve their dreams. Jiang Shen's eyes are opened to the reality of how competitive ballet is, even amongst students of the same teacher. And both Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi realize that sometimes big sacrifices have to be made in the pursuit of your goals. (Spoilers coming ahead.) I was glad to see that Jiang Shen still pushed for Bai Jinyi to move to the United States to further his boxing career, and that they had enough love and trust for each other that their relationship didn't falter much, even with that distance. Their sacrifices were not in vain, since we also get to see them succeed in their respective fields.

Overall, this series was a joy to read. I greatly appreciated the author's determination to create characters and a world that were full of softness and love. In the author's own words, these characters "expose their soft bellies to the world, radiating kindness and warmth." And you do genuinely feel those while reading the series - whether it's through the romantic love that Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi feel for each other, or the familial and platonic love of those who surround them both. This series is a pure cozy read through and through.

Salad Days is a modern coming of age Danmei that looks into the life of impoverished MC, Jiang Shen, whose dream is to become a Ballerina and his wealthy ML, Bai Jinyi, who dreams of becoming a world renowned boxer. The story looks into the lives of both boys and how they work to reach those dreams, as well as the family and friends who work hard to help support them in achieving those dreams.

This was a really lovely follow up to the first and gave a more mature look at the environment that they were growing in. This volume looked at their teenage years before moving into extras that covered some of their adult years. It was lovely to see some of the more mature moments between Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi, like love confessions, meeting the family and supporting each other in the different ways that their personal goals require both physically and mentally. I also enjoyed that they did not let their relationship stop them from doing what was needed, such as While their relationship is important, seeing them acknowledge that part of living that relationship is also making sacrifices to support each other which was beautiful to see. I was glad we still managed to have some of the story from the people back home, especially when the MC and ML were no longer interacting on the regular. My only sadness was this was a little bit short, and I was very much wanting more. The main story was only about 220 pages with an extra 50 pages of extras. I could have easily read another 100 pages of extras and been a happy reader!

Overall this one is a 5/5 for me and I would probably skip the first volume and jump straight to the second to enjoy the final story and extras! The story while not overly dramatic had moments of tension that could be felt through the interactions with side characters and the evolution of the story. Cute introduction, impactful growth and moments throughout and very satisfying ending. I loved watching them be who they were meant to be! If you enjoy a more romance focused story and heavy drama or more toxic tropes, this is not for you! However if you are someone who loves sweet fluffy moments, discussion of dance/ballet/competitive sports, found family and minimal angst or drama this is a must read!

FLAT AS THE FLOOR. THE END.

sobbing crying throwing up my babies my everything WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I did NOT expect to love liu qinzhi's character as much as I did but FUCK am I obsessed

I actually really wanted a spin off with them as the couple instead....their ship name would obvs be swan star....the ones who know.....

the main theme of this novels is dreams, intangible wishes that seem as far as the stars- but are within reach. of course, not everyone can achieve their dreams but one common factor of the characters who DID achieve in this novel is that they worked their asses off and it paid off in the end- they never lost sight.

ballet is such a beautiful art to me and honestly, with words alone being able to envoke such a strong feeling of romance within me is so so talented I mean just wow

everything felt so fairy like and beautiful yet realistic at the same time. I hardly ever wish this, but I do wish this was longer I mean wow- definitely buying the physical copies.

ARGHHH MY BABY LIU QINZHI YOU DESERVE A WHOLE NOVEL ML 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

if I'm being totally honest, I never really felt bai jinyi's character don't get me wrong I loved him- but he never really stuck out to me

anyways; your dreams are like stars and if you reach high enough, you'll get them.

I loved how sure of their love they were.
They loved each other ever since they were kids, and there was never confusion and questioning that, it was always just the other. No mattered what life threw at them, they knew they would deal with it together.

The whole friend group was so wholesome to me. And they werent just ornaments in the background, but fleshed out people with their own lives, dreams and aspirations.

Dreams are a big theme in this story.

Parents, and even neighbours support helped these characters to rise and be great. It is a really got reminder - how people we surround ourselves with can make a lot of impact.

The characters were soft and brave, full of love and strong.

I admired their constant resilience and determination to succeed, how they always stood by each other, and fought hard for everything- from acceptance to achieving their dreams of being the very best in what they liked.

And yes, liking something is good enough reason to keep doing it.

In the first volume, we got the characters' hard work and determination. In this one, we see it pay off.

This book was just as gentle and overflowing with love as its predecessor. After following the monotony of life in the village for so long, it's fascinating to return to it only sporadically and watch the myriad ways it has both transformed and stayed the same.

As Bai Jinyi and Shen Jiang finally enter maturity, their relationship does as well. Although very slowly. As with all good things, this too takes time. The number one thing between these two is the gentle love and absolute respect the pair have carried for one another since their childhood at the Children's Center.

In the author's note, Jing Shuibian says the inspiration for this novel was dreams. Later, they refer to it as a utopia. I think that's all there is to say about that.

The story is very adorable, and the dialogue is very funny. It's not the typical Danmei books I have read that follows the main character through a life of hardships and struggles and meets the lead character. Then they spend more time apart than together, which is a welcome change of scenery.

With that said, the pace is too jarring and all over the place. I wish that side characters have something to do or were elaborated because they were just... there. That aside, I absolutely love Jiang Shen and Bai Jinyi's healthy relationship. They are so green, they are like a whole forest. It was a good novel if you are looking for a story filled with fluff and cuteness overload.
