In the endless night of the Alaskan winter, bodies are turning up in the underside of urban Anchorage, wrapped dramatically in plastic. As FBI Special Agent Sadie Price wades through the dark underbelly of the city in her search for answers, she soon realizes this case may just be more disturbing—and shocking—than she thought.
ONLY SPITE (A Sadie Price FBI Suspense Thriller) is book #5 in a chilling new series by mystery and thriller author Rylie Dark, which begins with ONLY MURDER (book #1).
Special Agent Sadie Price, a 29-year-old rising star in the FBI’s BAU unit, stuns her colleagues by requesting reassignment to the FBI’s remote Alaskan field office. Back in her home state, a place she vowed she would never return, Sadie, running from a secret in her recent past and back into her old one, finds herself facing her demons—including her sister’s unsolved murder—while assigned to hunt down a new serial killer.
In the blackness and isolation of the dark season, anyone would lose their mind—which means anyone could be a suspect. But the clock is ticking, and Sadie must track down the killer before he claims another victim—while battling demons re-surfacing from her own dark past.
An action-packed page-turner, the SADIE PRICE series is a riveting crime thriller, jammed with suspense, surprises and twists and turns that you won’t see coming. It will have you fall in love with a brilliant and scarred new character, while challenging you, amidst a barren landscape, to solve an impenetrable crime.

I am working on the review for this book and series. I did enjoy the series overall but it was serial killer after serial killer in each story all within a very short time period. My review will be copied on all of the stories with a minor variation based on the story line.
The MCs always lose their weapons and each story has them near death. The answers are always stumbled on and the police work was not relevant. To top it off, no evidence can be used to prosecute as the h never followed rules of evidence.
Go in by yourself in a TSTL way to get killed or obtain evidence without a chain of custody... Check!
Make assumptions and ignore obvious signs that you are with the bad guy... Check
Go into bad areas without backup and without telling anyone... Check
No need to worry though as the bad guys will not get a trial.
I do think that the author has talent and hope that she gets lots of feedback to improve the stories overall. She does not use the standard bad guys and adds unique situations and locations. Work with a Detective to learn about the basics of evidence and what will invalidate it.
Only Spite by Rylie Dark feels like one of those thrillers you pick up when you want something fast and tense without needing a whole seminar on the criminal psyche. It’s set in Alaska during the dark season, which adds a whole layer of mood — the kind where you can feel the cold creeping in through the pages. The setting matters here; it isn’t just “generic city where crimes happen.” Alaska makes everything harsher, lonelier, and just… better for a murder spree. The main character, Sadie Price, is an FBI agent who brings plenty of her own emotional baggage into the job. That works. She’s capable, traumatized, and butting heads with people who don’t think she belongs. It gives the story some personality beyond the case files. Story-wise, it moves. Short chapters, constant suspense, serial killer on the loose — all the little thriller boxes checked. It’s a “one more chapter before bed” kind of book. And yes, you’ll stay up later than you meant to. There’s a downside if you haven’t read the first four in the series. Book five doesn’t pause to give you a recap, so a few emotional beats hit softer than they should. And some of the genre tropes show through — haunted agent, personal trauma colliding with the case, coworkers who don’t respect her — familiar territory. Nothing original, but it’s executed well enough that it still works. If I had to slap a number on it, I’d say around 3.5 to 4 stars. Enjoyable, suspenseful, and worth the time when you’re craving a darker vibe. Just don’t expect it to reinvent thrillers as we know them. If you want a quick, gripping read with a strong setting and a lead who’s a little messed up in a good way, Only Spite hits the mark. If you’re craving something warmer or funnier, maybe save it for a colder mood. Stories like these make a nice change of pace from comfort-comedies when you’re in the mood for something with more shadow than sunshine.
Sadie and Cooper are following the leads left by her father when she is summoned to attend to another case. Besides searching for a serial killer Sadie has to work with a challenging team - they believe women should not be working in the Police force - and they tend to disregard her options to deal with the case. Sadie is also waiting for a response from Internal Affairs regarding her last case whilst at BAU. Pressure is at a high and it will become worse when the case mixes with her personal affairs. The ending is a cliffhanger and I'm looking forward to what will come next. I received a free copy of this book from the author and this is my honest opinion.
When the serial killer gets down to killing college girls about every other day, by horrific means,
it has the FBI on high alert and massive searches! They do bring in or find other bad deviants during their searches and get them locked up! But this killer is always one step ahead of them, extremely sneaky, covers his tracks, uses people galore even unbeknownst to them! The way he kills them is a good reason it's a thriller! Great Suspense Thriller with lots of twists and turns and a surprising serial killer even. And those last two words of the book...what a knock out!! WOW!
I just finished and I’m so glad I discovered Rylie Dark. Cool idea to use Alaska and all the characters feel real and human. The stories are interesting and believable. I read a lot and I’ve read the series straight through, I’ve even picked up a number of her other books to check out. Do yourself a favor and check her out.
Once again, this book had me on the edge of my seat and was hard to put down. Sadie Price must be part cat, has nine lives and seems to survive the most dire situations. The plot goes in a number of directions ties up many loose ends, but still no solution what happened to sister Jessica.
I love this book! The cliffhangers and constant twists and turns are so good! I am so invested in this series. I read it in three days which has to be some kind of record for me!
