Realms of Terswood according to me is a timeless fantasy adventure, bringing together all the elements. Of the battles of good over evil, ancient relics and powers, self-discovery, and coming of age. With a beautiful cover and an even intriguing plot, this is a definitely must read if you are a fan of fantasy read. And the ending gives enough clues to get you excited about the sequel while wrapping up the book in such a way that you feel satisfied with the ending. . Realms of Terswood is a perfect cross-market read for young adults and adult readers alike, who are searching for the next enduring fantasy classic. Because the characters and the plots are written in such an intriguing way that it will keep you hooked from the first page itself. Definitely excited to read the sequel.
I wish I could give this 3.5 stars. I loved the fantasy elements and the twists and turns, but I also felt like sometimes my brain was being bombarded with the names of characters, realms, places, and magic types all the time which made it harder to fall into the book/world. I had to keep a list of characters and character traits to keep everything together 😂 That being said, I enjoyed the dialogue and the characters and the world-building. It definitely got better the further I read and the last 70 pages and the “Tales” and the end of the book were great!
I really enjoyed this fantasy novel. I like the idea of the different realms and how they intersect through magic and the vividly depicted characters. Fun read for fans of this genre!
I received this book through a Goodreads Giveaway! This book was very well written and full of suspense. It kind of reminds me of Dragons Reach by JA Andrews with its twists and turns. You will not be disappointed, and I can’t wait to read more from this author! Alishia and Lone were my favorite characters.
The plot build from the mysterious beginning at the mine build into a frozen north filled with magic and continue at a dead southern continent devoid of life or magic. Toward the middle, the action picks up and becomes a gripping page turner. The end gives just enough clues to entice for the sequel while wrapping up enough so you're not left feeling cheated. Hints of Norse mythology linger, making me think that it was at least partly responsible for inspiration. Connected realms, time travel, necromancy, immortal mages, this adventure has them all! I look forward to reading the next one.
A king is haunted by dreams of the dead, dreams that pursue him into the waking world.
A queen, slowly being driven mad by the loss of her son, sequesters herself in a tower.
A crown prince, torn between duty and desire, dreams of ruling in his own right.
And a princess, discovering the secrets of her own strange destiny.
These are only some of the intricate, extraordinary characters inhabiting the kingdoms of the Realms of Terswood. Steeped in a deep, eternal magic, the inhabitants of these pages range from archmages to druids, those without magic who have learned to wield incredible technologies to a race that absorbs magic and voids its grandeur.
The story itself offers no disappoint, living up to its fantastical cast. Evoking the imaginative writing of Raymond E. Feist, Samland ushers his readers into a world brimming with enchantment. From a mystical library that reveals or hides sought information to secret doorways between worlds guarded by royal ghosts, the architecture and land of the realms is just as remarkable and noteworthy as every other aspect of this book.
With some awesome mage battles, a truly horrendous villain, and plenty of monsters, Realms of Terswood is the ‘wizard’ story I hadn’t realized I was craving, but happily devoured.
Realms of Terswood is the first book of a trilogy. For fans of epic fantasy, this series will immerse you in one of the most complex magic systems I've ever seen in the genre. It features multiple skill levels, different ways magic is performed, and different applications by different species. Early in the book, it can become cumbersome to keep all of it in order in your head due to the story being told by multiple POV's and the author's penchant for difficult names that are hard to pronounce and feature hyphens and apostrophes. The naming reminds me of some of the works by C. J. Cherryh. Her naming of characters drove me crazy. But then again, outside of this complaint, I read her stuff because it was excellent. I suppose being in her league is not necessarily a bad thing. As to the story in Realms of Terswood, it is well-developed with things tying together. Although it is a trilogy, this first book can also be read as a stand-alone, as can the other two. I appreciate this aspect as I am not left with a million loose ends after each book.
This was a very good story, but it was difficult to really get into because of all the different names that I had trouble pronouncing. Every time i started to get sucked into the story, id get stuck on a word and it kind of ruined the experience for me. I do recommend this book overall though. It was a good read.
