Rate this book
FunRetrospectives is a book with the necessary tools to develop the main element of continuous an effective, committed team! With several years working with agile teams, Paulo Caroli and Tainã Caetano Coimbra know there are two main ingredients to finding the path to success and continuous improvement. First, a team that is aligned and committed to the project. Second, a work environment that fosters collaboration, one in which everyone can openly reflect, debate, and learn. But how can we achieve that? Each person in a team brings a different life experience and perspective, and we know that a group of people doesn’t become a team overnight. That’s why the main purpose of this work is to offer the necessary activities and tools to make everyone comfortable, aligned, and ready to be part of the best possible experience. The authors have gathered years of experience in this book, offering simple and straightforward activities. There will always be ups and downs, but everything that happens is essential for the team’s growth, and a fun, safe environment allows you to get the best out of every situation.

This book might be beneficial in the past years. However, for the experienced professional in an agile way of working, it is a bit disappointing. Because most of the ideas in the book are already accessible on the internet.
I would recommend this book to those who are new to the Agile and Retrospective concept.

I feel bad giving this book such a low rating. Part of me feels like I came in with the wrong expectations and motivation for reading, and am punishing the authors unfairly for this. In any case, I hope my review does not dissuade people from giving "Fun Retrospectives" a chance, or to use it as a reference.

As a front-to-back read, rather than a on-the-shelf reference, the book fares rather poorly. Again, my sympathies to the authors, as an ebook does not lend itself well for a collection like this; a web product like the Wickham family recipes database probably would have been better. However, there were things grammar errors, ugly photos, bad typesetting, and a distracting idea attribution format that really brought the quality of this work down in a distracting way. These may seem like nitpicks, but recently I have been downloading those free ebooks put out by various entities as content marketing, and they have all been better in these regards than "Fun Retrospectives" which I paid for.

Caroli has done just fine in collecting interesting retrospective ideas. I just wish a book with such a title would have been more fun to read.

A practical and action oriented guide

I wish I had come across this kind of ressources many years back. It's full of ressources and tools you can learn and immediately apply to your next team meetings to make them really fun and engaging yet very productive.

This book has changed my perspective about facilitating team meetings to get the maximum out of them in a fun and innovative way.

I love it and recommend it to all team leaders or facilitators of group meetings.

Good inspiration, but lacks more original ideas

Good basic book on how to facilitation retrospectives, but many of the tools are the same just with differentiere Word. So there are many pages that are basically the same. I know this is a Scrum book, but there could have ben some examples of doing a retrospective on the Scrum values. There are a couple of them out there that are very good

Small book, yet full of techniques we can use to make retrospective/futurespectives meetings fun. Unfortunately, it lacks informations on how to deal with conflicts and facilitation in general. Overall, this is a nice book to have in your tool belt.

A good complement to Agile Retrospectives by Esther Derby and Diana Larsen
New facilitation activities are described and a new perspective is given: not only retrospectives but also futurespectives are important

This book takes also a look at group dynamics with energizers and team building "games".
