When I’m not chasing after my wild preschooler, I like to write super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica. I live in Texas with a husband who could easily snag a job as an extra on History Channel’s new Viking series, a sweet but rowdy three-year-old with Tetralogy of Fallot, and Bosley, our Great Dane with major mommy issues.

I also have another dirty-book writing alter ego, Lolita Lopez, who writes deliciously steamy tales for Ellora’s Cave, Forever Yours/Grand Central, Mischief/Harper Collins UK, Siren Publishing and Cleis Press.

5 STARS FOR NIKOLAI 2

Whew! I GOBBLED this installment up like I was a starving woman!
MORE
This was a pretty lengthy addition to the Her Russian Protector series, but it really, really needed to be.

THIS BOOK IS THE KEY TO THE SERIES

On a romance-relationship level we get to see Vivian and Nikolai navigate their new marriage with the added bliss and stress of a pregnancy, major "work" troubles for Nikolai and Vivian's blossoming career as an artist.

The torment that Nikolai puts himself through--the self-flagellation and agonizing over the future, the past and every other motion that he can't control--it's so delicious to watch. This man LOVES his wife so much but can't see himself as worthy of her love. Gah, I love Nikolai. Vivian is trying to learn to cope with the hard parts of being the wife of a mob-boss: Being kept in the dark about things, being constantly watched over by Nikolai's soldiers, losing the freedom of the anonymity she thought she had before she married and also, the worries that she will not be a good or worthy mother to her child.

I love that we get to see what happens after the "I do's". Vivian and Nikolai were damaged, tormented people who, even after the wedding, still had a sometimes-dark-and-nasty-and-scary real life to live. No matter how deeply they love each other, there were still threats and problems that were going to make their lives tough. This book brought that meaty-goodness.

On the Suspense-intrigue level we have hit the motherlode! Okay, if any of you out there found yourselves reading the last several installments of HRP's and the Fighting Connolly's and scratching your heads in confusion---well, this book clears it all up.

Nikolai 2 spans the time from In Jack's Arms (the Fighting Connolly's #2), Sergei 2 and In Finn's Heart (the Fighting Connolly's #3). I'm betting a fair share of the future book Kostya, will take place during this time-frame as well.

Basically, we are getting to see all of these crazy dramas play out from Nikolai's standpoint. He is a major player in the Houston underworld and he is trying to minimize the damage that is going to come from an inevitable coup within the Guzman Cartel. We were in the dark and not understanding all of the pieces because we could only see those pieces from Jack's or Sergei's or Finn's viewpoint. But now, everything is clear. Now we really know the motivations for blackmailing Finn, now we know why Holly was chosen for the hit, now we know why Nikolai wasn't on Yuri's plane to London with Vivian.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Not only did it answer the questions and fill in the gaps from previous books, but it made all of this richer and deeper. And, I expected to finish this book geared up for MY (dibs, ladies) KOSTYA and to get my curiosity piqued about Ten, and to maybe get a smidge more info about Besian and Marley, but I didn't just get all of that---surprisingly I found myself frustratingly jonesing for other characters' stories. Danila, Alexei, Ten, Conn, Besian and of course, Kostya are all set to be written about. But I think Eric Santos NEEDS HIS STORY NOW! And Niels? I'm not one for a billionaire Dom, but, whew, I'll take his story and eat it up the second it's published. Three-fingered Arty?--tragic love history, sweet and protective: NEED IT. Roman Boychenko--young and loyal: I think he needs to get out of this life, do something amazing. Hector Salas--there's an unrequited love or forbidden love story there, I'm sure.

The point is: Roxie Rivera will be able to keep me gleefully, blissfully happy forever with these dark heroes.

Nikolai Kaslasnikov and Sergei are my favorite male characters in this series so I'm so pleased the author gave us a second story after their marriages. Nikolai married Vivian, and now they are the King and Queen of Houston's underground.
Viv is pregnant and still uncomfortable with the secrecy that comes with her Kolya's job. They are also hiding Nikolai's true identity which someone discovers. Now Nikolai's greatest fear, losing Viv and their baby, seems a possibility. What is he willing to give up to keep them safe?

I love the writing in this series. While the author builds the plot, she gives extra attention to the characters. It's clear that Nikolai and Viv love each other despite their individual faults. It's an acceptance of each other that makes me enjoy the story. I never doubted that Nikolai would do whatever it took, but I loved the emotional wrestling they had to do emotional. Both are good seeds from bad parents. But I really felt the passing of the torches.

“Only you, Vivian. You are the only one in the entire world who can bring me to my knees.”

To say I was surprised when I found out there was a second book to Nikolai's story, it'd be an understatement. In a way, I felt Nikolai's first book was good but not great. You know what I'm saying? I liked it but not loved it. I guess I needed more and (yes!) I finally got it.
This book was everything. Everything I expected and wanted. We get to see a better side of Nikolai, a grown-up Vivian and a love story that will melt your heart. In essence, I could not put this book down.

“Our love was complicated and messy, but it was strong and real. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe I was weak. Maybe I was stupid. But I couldn't punish him. I just couldn't do it.”

In a way. I was (still am) obsessed with Nikolai and his need to protect his Vee (Vivian). Their love is so so fierce and strong and they'd do anything for each other. Though they have a 10-year-ish difference (I believe) you wouldn't be able to tell because Vivian is such a great heroine. I really liked her in this book. She was no longer the shy, awkward young girl we saw in the first book. She's not a badass either but she's different in a good way.
All in all, I really enjoyed this one. An amazing wrap to a great story. This isn't the end of the series, by the way. If you've been catching up then there's about 3 more books headed our way. Can't wait!!

I got this book when it first came out and somehow ended not finishing it. I couldn't remember why so I decided to finish it up!

This booked showed the lives of Viv and Nik following their marriage. And to say they go through some rocky patches is an understatement. Lots of misunderstandings, and fighting between Nikolai and Vivian, and they struggle with Viv's pregnancy.

I did however love to see the other characters from past books and I really want to see what happens with Ten, who will be his love interest?!

From a fairly ordinary beginning with dubious heroes and a healthy dose of smut this series has evolved into addictive reading. It gives you the same feeling as watching an episode of Sons of Anarchy, you cringe because of the violence and the very unsavoury elements of crime but the story and the characters reel you in!

In Nikolai 2 we see that despite loving each other, there is no Happily Ever After for Houston mob Boss Nikolai Kaslasnikov and his bride, Vivian as secrets from the past and the ongoing everyday violence of the Underworld threaten to tear them apart.

Addictive reading!

Re-read 7th - 8th August 2018.

Original review.

Nikolai has been my favourite character from the start so when I discovered he had a second book I couldn't wait in fact I nearly just dived straight in but since it's been a couple of years since I read the first four books I decided to re-read them and 'Sergei' first.
There's so many reviews plus I'd be worried about inadvertently giving something away so I'll skip my usual summary and just give my opinion.
.....It's fantastic and I loved it.....
That's my opinion.
There's so many scenes I love I couldn't pick my favourite, the story keeps you fascinated, the characters are great, the relationships, the romance everything but one scene in particular took my breath away, Nikolai has done what needed to be done and he's in bed with Viv.
I just love that man.

Finally! I've waited for this sequel for so long! It's definitely worth waiting! Although Vivian and Nikolai conquer all the diverticulitis to get married, Nikolai's role as mob boss can't guarantee Vivian happily ever after. In this story, Nikolai has to work harder to protect Vivian because she is pregnant. Also, Nikolai's concealment of his work also lead to misunderstanding between him and Vivian. Nikolai not only has to do his best to protect Vivian and their child, but also to try harder to maintain their marriage.

Recommend to those who love reading Ms. Roxie Rivera's Her Russian Protector series!

Perfection in all forms. A fantastic plot that not only ties up many storylines in her other books and series (Fighting Connollys, Debt Collection) but also finishes the new romance of Nikolai and Vivian. A big, meaty read that was worth the wait.

4.25-4.50 RATING- Wow. The saga of The Russian Protectors continues...EEK! This was a great addition to the series!

So I get it. I really do. Not everyone is a fan of Roxie Rivera's writing. But if you are (and I totally am!) and you've been reading this series...WOW. Nikolai, Volume 2, doesn't disappoint. I can only describe this world the author created as a drama filled Russian soap opera...and I can't get enough. I'm actually glad I got to spend more time with Nikolai in this book because I felt kind of "meh" about him in his first book. He definitely delivered here. One problem I did have

What is so amazing to me about this book was how the author pulled together so many different characters and past stories to all play a role in the current going ons of the Houston underworld. The timing of it all...How the hell does she keep this straight? She's got the Russians, the Cartel, the MC, the Armenians, the Aryans...it's crazy!! Also crazy is the set up for some books I can only bite my nails in anticipation for (KOYSTA, TEN, BESIAN)!

Nikolai was definitely better than I expected. This is one series I'm glad I've stuck with. Not all of the books have been as good as I would have liked, but all have been enjoyable and collectively, this is one of my favorite ongoing series to read. Definitely a guilty pleasure I can't wait to read more of.

Roxie Rivera did not disappoint! Awesome installment this one pretty much from the mob boss Nikolai's point of view of everything going on in underground. Pointing out everyone one and there position of series thus far important characters to come & things of importance we may have forgotten. The Connelly brothers her other series are also intertwined in this story. A must read in my eyes if you are diehard of this series. As a matter of fact I will be rereading that as refresher, as my memory sucks! We got a great section on Neil's in this series which btw he needs his own story!! Something going on there!! We are reminded also the little tidbit hehe that Kostya has his eyes on somebody!! His book will next yippie. We also get a great big tid bit on Yuri and Lena which also needs a follow up! Long story short Nikolai two recaps big events of last few books from his POV, thing important, and juicy new details ps Ten needs a story too~ shit I just can't get enough of Roxie Rivera her Russian men and her author series this is one of my top five authors all time!! A must read series!

I was so enamored to Nikolai in book 6! . His possessive and cunning character continued to evolve as a strong and hands-on husband with far reaching ties to other big-time bosses in Houston.

Nikolai can't hide his ruthless nation so he keeping secrets from Vivian but remember his wife in no fool! So in a way her art is her stress release but with a child on the way she was cautious in this story, but loved Nikolai for who and what he was.

This book gave a better understanding to other characters in other Rivera's series as well. Brilliant links there Roxie Rivera!

I loved, loved, loved Nikolai's dominance in this series.

I never liked Vee and Nikolai. I thought they got together way too fast and was hoping for more romance in this story.

Instead, I got a lot of misunderstandings between Nikolai and Vee. And Nikolai forgot her first doctor's appointment for the baby. HE FORGOT.

I could not forgive him for that.

Frankly, Vee did some bad things too. Just because you're mad at your husband is no reason to take half naked pictures with your rich billionaire friend who has made it clear he'd love to have sex with you. It sickened me. How would she have felt if Nikolai had done that?

Even worse, was the dialogue while they were taking the naughty pictures. "I told you to take everything off." Well, I kept my panties on, so take that! Wow, Vee, how noble of you to keep your panties on in front of another man while he takes pictures of you.

I hated this book. Hated it. The next book is supposed to be Kostya's and I can only hope the author makes that book better than this.

Lawd A Murcy!!!!!!!!

You want to talk about sh*t hitting the fan, my goodness I kept holding my breath but wanted to scream at the same time. (Side Note...The Fighting Connolly's should be read between Sergei 5.5 and Nikolai 2) because they play a significant part into the impending war that is threatening to erupt on the streets of Houston.

I knew Nikolai was dangerous but nothing makes a person more dangerous when you mess with his family. Nothing makes a person completely go over the edge when you threaten his loved ones. In Nikolai 2 you see him trying to stave off a war that has gone from simmering to bubbling and knowing it is only a matter of time before it boils over, Nikolai is making moves to ensure that the families stay intact. Especially with one of them losing power, a person used to power and all of a sudden is about to lose it becomes mighty desperate.

On the flip side Nikolai who loves Vivian to the end of time, is watching his own marriage implode before his eyes. Him and Vivian are really struggling, with Nikolai insisting on keeping his wife in the dark of his activities. It is a noble thing but Vivian knew what she signed up for when she married him and loves him till the end of time but the shielding isn't working. If Nikolai expects his marriage to work, he is going to have to let her in. Especially now with her being pregnant with their first child, if he expects Vivian to rise to her rightful place as his Queen, then the King will need to open that door. It will be the only way for them to rise together.

In this story we see vicious attacks against the family, we see the interconnecting of the stories from "The Fighting Connolly's" We have new characters introduced, We find out secrets, We see that alliances are challenged and made, We get glimpses of just how far of a reach Nikolai has and we get to see the ruthless that is just below the surface coming rushing forward, We see a person come back from the dead, Maksim (Mob Boss in Russia and Nikolai's father make an appearance. I don't trust this man at all.), Detective Eric Santos makes a revelation that I never saw coming. This story is non-stop action and it is an exhilarating ride.

Every book in this series is amazing, author Roxie Rivera has done an outstanding job of consistently tying the stories together without missing a beat. Stories that you have already read she has woven them into the next book seamlessly. I can't say enough great things about this series except for "GO AND READ THE BOOKS"

Well Until My Next Review Ciao Bellas!

Already being a fan of Nikolai and Vivian, I was really looking forward to this addition to the series. And a great addition it was! Nikolai and Vivian are married and in love. But life with a mob boss husband and too many secrets cannot an easy marriage make. Then add a baby on the way, and Nikolai and Vivian had a lot going on. But what I loved about this story is how they worked things out. It wasn't always easy, and they both made some bad choices that just added more fuel to the fire. But their love helped them keep their focus on each other, even while things around them were chaotic.

I felt like this story really pulled all the great elements of this series into one awesome book. We get the tender, passionate love story between Nikolai and Vivian. Even while working out the kinks of what it is to have a marriage in the mob, their love is felt deeply. We get great character development as we not only watch Nikolai and Vivian grow and change, but there are also great side characters whose roles are so important and impactful. I loved all the varying relationships. And of course we get the intensity that is Nikolai's mob life. I loved seeing Nikolai acting as a boss. He's tough and intimidating, and there's a reason he holds this position. But behind it all he has a heart, and I loved seeing the interworkings of everything. There are a lot of layers to this world. But where this story left us in the end - just beautiful. I'm so happy for Nikolai and Vivian.

Side note: Nikolai 2 spans the time from In Jack's Arms (the Fighting Connollys #2), Sergei 2 and In Finn's Heart (the Fighting Connollys #3). Personally, I'd only read Sergei 2 prior to reading this. My next goal is to read the Fighting Connollys series, but I don't feel like the spoilers in this story are a big deal. If anything, I'm looking even more forward to that spin-off series.

Love the new covers! Fave quote from the book:
"He stalked toward the bed with that predatory grace I found so thrilling. Standing so close I could feel the heat waves radiating from his skin, he asked, "What else do these stars on my chest and my knees mean?"
Focused on his pale eyes, I didn't miss the dangerous flash in his icy irises. "That you will kneel before no man."
"Da." Then, deliberately and with glacial slowness, he slid to the floor and knelt in front of me. He removed my shoes and slipped my underwear off my body. I held my breath as he peppered light yet stunningly erotic kisses along my thighs. He lifted his head and pinned me in place with a scorching look that made my heart swell and my stomach wobble violently. "Only you, Vivian. You are the only one in the entire world who can bring me to my knees." ((Fans self)) Good Lawd!

What the first Nicolai lack in underbelly world this one made up for , big time. I have a feeling that I should have read the Connelly's before this but that's was a big distraction as such. Just made me add to my shelf. Keep them coming Ms Rivera as I really want to know what happens to them all.

I loved that we go to read more of their story. I went thru some emotion when Nikolai was having lunch with another female or when he didn't make it to the first doctors appointment. He eventually saw his mistakes and Vi being the best she forgave him, she is such a strong underground queen. Im really excited for Holly's story.

— Sbaglio tutto. Rovino tutto.

— Perché no? È vero. Guardaci!

I enjoyed this second half (part, maybe) of Nikolai and Vivian’s story. Seeing broken men find their balm in the form of a woman does check some pretty satisfying buttons, I admit. But the book just leans so, so heavily on the the gendered stereotypes of ‘she’s innocent, kind, and forgiving’ (and that last one is important because he needs her forgiveness often) and ‘he’s broken, violent, and dangerous’ (except, he really doesn’t live up to this). I know some people really like this dynamic, that’s why we see it so often. But I’ve read it so many times that I’m bored with it and want to see some variety. (But that’s more a genre complaint than an individual book complaint, I suppose.)

I liked the twists and complications that have cropped up in Nikolai and Vivian’s life. It makes for an interesting book. I did think the end felt really rushed. It’s as if most of the book kind of meanders along and then, all of a sudden, a lot of stuff started happening off page and reported very briefly before the book wraps up in a snap. It literally felt like Rivera ran out of pages and had to squeeze the last bits in.

But, all in all, I enjoyed more than I didn’t.

Well I went against my better judgement and read this one even though I hated Vee in Nikolai's first book, and I hate her even more after this one. I went ahead with reading this because I thought maybe she would be better and not do stupid things after awhile but I was wrong.

I really would have loved this book had she not been so annoying, she just doesn't work for me especially as a mob queen. The story about cartel problems among other things in this one seemed to be resolved for the most part but you know someone will get greedy eventually. There were several other things revealed that should be interesting to read more about in future books too.

I did get really irritated at Nikolai once in this book, he screwed up a lot but I mean seriously when you are running the Russian mob and worrying about all the crap going down he can forget certain things. I can understand a lot of simple mistakes but that lunch bullshit, hell no. I can't forgive that due to the things that were said, that goes way too far for a married man I don't care why or how nothing makes that acceptable. I found it forgivable mostly because Vee didn't even have enough backbone to confront the situation while she was there or even after it happened.

But Vee running off with the Judge, I mean really. Then the crap with Eric and Ten, then that little stunt with Niels. Oh and let's not forget treating Nikolai like shit when he did what he had to do to protect his family, it's the mob you dumb ass those weren't soccer dads they were killers, drug dealers, and who knows what else. To guilt Nikolai like that made me want to smack her in the head.

I wish I could get more out of their story but it seems like every time I start liking them as a couple and enjoying it, bam Vee gets stupid.

I loved Ten, his story should be interesting. I also was glad to see the update to Yuri and Lena in the epilogue, it was about time! I am anxious to see what happens with Kostya in the next book hopefully it will get back to what made me fall in love with this series in the first 3 books.

Bloody brilliant!!, best one yet!!, Ms Roxie you did good. so much more explained in this one, you get loads of answers but I'm afraid new questions asked too, but that's a good thing cause that means more books!!, this was drama, tension filled, had me gasping at some points but also smiling in others, I loved the relationship between Nikolai and Vivi, it's not all hea, they messed up, they argued, said hateful things, but ultimately couldn't deny the bone deep feelings they had for each other, I thought Nikolai's honest quote about marriage was perfect, he didn't how to act as he'd never had great role models and he knew he would fuck up, but he was willing to learn with his Vivi his "sun". I though the last chapter was perfect they all have come such a long way, been through so much for those they loved and cherished you could really feel that at the end, gave me the warm and fuzzies.
I also loved, loved you got to hear more info on the others, now Ten, hated him to begin, but now he's growing on me and oh he likes a curvy girl, yay!.
Artyom, I knew there was a sad story there (sigh) and Eric I wasn't expecting that, my heart broke for you even Besian you want to hate him but damn he's got that mischievous twinkle, well for a mob boss anyway, even Niels the kinky fucker needs his own story.
I could read these books forever, but the problem is now I'm up to date with the series. (Harrumph), but Kostya you next, I'll wait, your definitely going to be worth it.

Fantastic read tying up so many loose ends from the other stories. If you don't read them kind of back to back you will get lost on what's going on. The author let's you see all the sides of the couples even their downs and it helps you get to know them and other characters. I think the small pieces that you get about the other characters seem little but make you want to read about them also. I've noticed throughout the editing issues but this one seemed to have more missing words or double words or just more problems but I was so wrapped up in the story it didn't really matter. What I do get frustrated with is how when you get to the juicy part it's over before you know it. Not saying it doesn't give you that rush but it could be more but it seems the author won't go there. I'm wondering if the author will do a story on Niels, if so will she take it there or give you just enough? Either way it seems that all the stories end with only a chapter or two of real danger and excitement. You get samples throughout but the major blowups are a bit too PG for me. I personally think if you can get x rated with the sex why not go all out when it comes to the deaths, beatings and all the other good stuff. I'm hoping Koysta's story will be filled with all his dirty deeds. Great read though can't wait for the next one.

O. M. G. !!! Awesome story !!! Roxie Rivera does it again !! Wonderful continuation of the Russian Mob stories, with Nikolai and Vivian. This one cements all the other stories together, wraps up the confusion and sorts out almost all of the secrets. We learn about the Houston crime families, scenarios, and power struggles. Vivian and "Kolya" are so super sexy and romantic. He's a man ridden with angst about not deserving her, yet he gives her everything and unending love. She is stressed about the lack of communication and secrets. We see suspense, action, intrigue, and a gathering of the deep characters from other stories in this series. This story was worth the wait. Look forward to more stories about Kostya, Alexei, Ten, etc. These men in this series are wonderful, passionate and hot. The women are lovely, strong, and deeply thoughtful characters. Highly recommended! ENJOY !!!!!!!
P.S.: (I have read this whole series since I wrote this. The WHOLE series is wonderful, awesome characters, each book better than the last !!!)
