I have eight golden rules when it comes to men;
1. No dating or going out on dates.
2. Never let them know where I live. Lie if I must.
3. Never pick up a guy in a particular social setting that I may frequently attend. Or, never sleep with a man whom I have the chance of running into on a regular basis.
4. Never have a guy over to my apartment for any reason. My gay best friends are the only exceptions.
5. Always end things before a guy starts to want more.
6. Always use protection.
7. Never sleep over at their place after sex. Once we’ve finished, or in most cases, they’ve finished, dress and leave.
8. Always have more than one exit strategy.

Orphaned at age sixteen, Emma, now twenty-four, has complete control of her life. She is a private, successful businesswoman who owns two companies and uses men for sex. When Emma’s sexual itch arises, and there are no possible male suitors to fill her need, she finds alternative means. Emma keeps most people at a distance, especially the men she has sex with, except her two best friends, Maggie and Jared. She adheres to her eight golden rules that keep her safe and in complete control — rules that she started after having sex with the first man. Rules that keep her guarded, safe and free — but then, along came Joe Covelli.

Martha Sweeney

After the age of thirty, Martha realized that her life as a terran was not what it was cracked up to be. Knowing that there was more to life, she embarked on a journey that has tested her resolve, heart, and soul many times over. It continues to do so at this very moment.

She’s astounded that anyone takes any author bio seriously. Why would anything that’s written here be believed when authors are known to invent stuff out of thin air? Martha likes to thank the ether and her higher-self for the enlightenment and odd sense of wonderment about life, the universe, and what exactly she was thinking when she wrote that one obscure story that no one has yet to read, but her husband has heard about.

The oddity of society, particularly the book community has flabbergasted her, making her curious about how a em-dash or ellipses can make people think that AI had any hand in aiding an author to write. She could be sharing complete truths, complete lies, or a mixture in this very bio as you continue to read this. Why are you still reading this, she asks in your ear as if she’s sitting right next to you, right now? Does anyone really care if she’s telling the truth, I mean, come on, she’s an author for God sake? Books are written to pull you from reality with fantasy, though there is much of reality in books to some extent. Where was she going with this thought? I don’t know, don’t remember, so let us continue. What were we discussing? Oh, right, Martha Sweeney’s author bio.

She would like to sum up with this single thought: believe what you want about anything, even her. Beliefs are just thoughts you keep thinking. Whether you think you’re wrong or right, you’re right either way, so why should she care what’s written in her bio because we both know you just want a story that makes you feel. That’s the purpose of books or any form of entertainment. It’s to feel something. She hopes your emotions are kicked in the ass one way or another. If you like a character, she’s content. If you hate a character, she’s content. All in all, she made you feel.

If you’re still reading this, Martha is quite impressed and is giving you an astral projected hug and hopes to meet you in person one day, or not. According to Martha, we’ve already meet if you understand entanglement.

If you are literally thinking, or saying out loud WTF?, Martha wants you to know that very same thought has entered her mind at least twenty times while dictating to me what to write. Whom am I, you ask, that’s not important. My roll is simply to write Martha’s author bio and let you know that she’s a multi-genre author, so there’s a chance you might be interested and like at least one of her currently published books. Enjoy, or not, that’s up to you.

Breathe In by Martha Sweeney

This review will have an extremely bias opinion simply because Martha Sweeney is my wife, best friend, lover, business partner and confidant. We share our lives, dreams and fantasies together and her happiness makes me complete.

Reading "Breathe In" began more as an assignment than entertainment. Martha recruited me to assist with editing her first novel to hit her release deadline. I was more than happy to help since she helped with my book, The Harem, and to discover in detail how she had developed the story she’d been sharing with me from the moment she felt inspired to begin writing. However, after finally reading "Breathe In" from start to finish, I’ve come to feel deeply attached to the characters and invested in their journeys thanks to skillful writing and eloquent plot development.

The story of Emma comes from a place of trauma, loss, and fear, but quickly grows into a tale of individual triumph and empowerment. Breathe In introduces the main character, Emma, with the vision of a recurring nightmare depicting the tragic death of her parents in a car accident that continues to replay itself every night Emma tries to rest. This horrific vision compels her to seek control in every aspect of her life and inspires her to excel in personal and professional endeavors. The reader quickly understands that Emma is very successful, has built a new “family” of her own that she protects dearly, and struggles internally to allow them and herself the freedom to grow and experience more of life.

Then, along comes Joe Covelli.

An obvious expression of Emma’s controlling personality and fear is her eight rules for personal relationships, or lack thereof, with any man she decides to engage physically. For her, men are simply a tool or resource to fulfill a temporary physical need. While Emma comes from a place of power in her life, her fears and nightmares indicate a deep seated desire for more emotionally. That desire manifests in the form of Joe Covelli, Emma’s best friend’s boyfriend’s colleague and close friend. When Joe sets his sights on Emma, everything that gave her any sense of stability and safety is suddenly called into question. Despite Emma’s best attempts to avoid her obsessive desire and subconscious needs with logical rationalizations, her heart will not be stopped.

The result is extraordinary!

I’ve always been impressed with Martha’s abilities, but "Breathe In" by far is her most impressive accomplishment to date. The writing style flows easily and is enjoyable, allowing for the story to develop without distraction and characters subtleties and depth to unfold very naturally. There’s nothing typical about Martha’s approach. The plot twists and surprises are thoroughly entertaining and unexpected without ever feeling unbelievable. Each character is given plenty of opportunity to speak and share their own complexities through Emma’s eyes. Martha shares only enough to keep the pages turning frantically in the excitement of what’s next. From an insider’s point of view, I can tell you with certainty that there’s much more to come too.

"Breathe In" is an extraordinary, unique and riveting story with depth, subtlety and substance, providing a breath of fresh air to story telling. I couldn’t be more proud of Martha and this brilliant creation. It’s my honor and privilege to share Emma’s story with you!

To start, I have a bias opinion about this story because I wrote it.

The inspiration has stemmed from reading a variety of erotic romance novels that I feel demean, subjugate and objectify woman rather than empower women to take charge of their own lives.

There is nothing wrong with sexual exploration as long as it is consensual between adults.

I want women to feel comfortable with their bodies and mind to where they take responsibility for their own life and do not NEED a man to rescue them. Rather, a man or other partner adds to their life goals and happiness.

I hope you enjoy the story!

Ok, I'm struggling...
I really wanted to like this book because I read what Martha Sweeney said about needing a female role in erotic/romance novels that was more realistic than the naive virgin possessed by the millionaire and I totally agree with that, but I'm sorry to say that the result of trying to do the anti-naive heroine, has come out as even worse.
Let me explain what my issues were:
1. First of all, this people have a sort of friendship that feels more like a cult around the female character Emma, than real friendship. Everybody loves her, adores her, f@@## her and so forth.
2. Joe, the man in question, has less spine than a worm. It's extremely hard for me to believe that any man will accept the endless teasing and playing and joking around that Emma submits this guy to. It's not foreplay or a woman with issues, it's just plain inconsiderate and cruel and he doesn't react at all. I'm not for the playboy possessive guy, but this guy is more of a horny desperate kid than a man. And by the way, he ends up being a millionaire with a fabulous penthouse, so not really a change there from our regular 50shades of something type.
3. The woman is not a modern woman with character and personality, she turns up being a fucking superhero!! She is 24 years old and has not one, not two, but three multi-million dollar companies. She is beautiful, has more sex drive than two horny sailors lost at sea, everybody is attracted to her, she has the best trained dog ever, she is extremely good at any weird sport and so forth...SERIOUSLY??! how is that portraying a more realistic woman than the naive virgin??? And it's even worse, because she is mean as hell with everybody.
What was supposed to be a woman with traumatic issues ends up being a moody baby that everybody is supposed to respect, adore, take care of and accept any shit that she decides to pull at any given moment and all she does for them is condescend them with her presence. She is absolutely insufferable.
I get the whole trauma about the parents thing but honestly, going through hard experiences in life doesn't give you the right to treat people around like that.
I don't know, as I said, I really wanted to like this book, but at the end I was so disgusted by her character and so little interested in his character that it was hard for me to finish this. And I read Gabriel's Inferno, so that's a lot to say...

Very descriptive. The first paragraph alone will have the reader wondering..."What have I gotten myself into?" (and I mean that in the best possible way)

What Emma (our heroine) must overcome, seems vast...just way too much. Many women have been where she has been with a past and hurts...fears that no person should ever experience. She manages to do so...quite elegantly.

I could relate in the fact that I am a person that very much likes to be the one in control. I have to know whats going on around me and in me. I choose who I let in. I have a say in who hurts or blesses my life. It takes pretty special people to see "under the veil". (and that is only to those I truly trust.)

Emma found someone she could really trust. It allowed her a way to start to leave behind the hurt and explore who Emma was beneath the controlled veneer.

Very well done Martha! Book two will be a much anticipated one for me!

I got this as an ARC from Martha, and I am so glad I did. This book was outstanding with a message that will make you think, and an ending that will leave you craving more (BTW, I want book two like yesterday!). Emma is a headstrong independent woman with brilliant business savvy, and a horrific past she stills fears. I related a lot to Emma in several ways, and became attached to the characters very quickly. This book was extremely well written, and spoke a lot to me as an independent woman. I usually don't enjoy long books but I loved the length of this because the story developed so fluidly. I cried in a few places, but in the end I found myself rooting for Joe. Lol I can't wait to see what book 2 holds for Emma and everyone else. This book will blow you out of the water. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good long inspirational read, because by the end of this you will have grown from it and it will leave you wanting more.

P.S. Martha I'm still skeptical of a few things, and I think you know exactly what I'm talking about! Lol

Just Breathe by Martha Sweeney is an edgy, contemporary read that explores what love and life is all about. Sweeney shows that love comes in many forms and can be complex. She also shows, however, that a woman can overcome her past issues to be successful. I really liked this message.

From page one, Sweeney's writing style grabs your attention. She has a wonderful way of combining beautiful description with unique word choices. She is also really good at building suspense. I liked how she developed the characters completely without just giving a bunch of backstory; their pasts were seamlessly incorporated in the story line, helping the reader gradually get to know each character. I felt like the characters were quirky yet easy to connect to. I love the detail she put into the character building; every single character was memorable and interesting. I also like how she developed the relationships between the main characters. Sweeney is clearly an expert at characterization.

I liked how Sweeney incorporated Emma's past struggles into the novel. Her issues in her early life made me appreciate what Emma accomplished later in life. The past was expertly and consistently incorporated throughout the novel, which I liked.

The only major thing I didn't like was that I felt like Emma's sexual encounters didn't fit with the character she was made to be, at least at the very beginning. Her sexual confidence in the beginning of the book seemed to come from nowhere, at least to me. I just felt a mismatch between her character and who she was when she was out for the night, although maybe that was the point; Emma is able to overcome her past and who she is supposed to be to pursue what she truly wants. I do not typically read books like this with such racy content, so this could also explain my perception. I thought that the sexuality was overdone at points, but again, that probably stems from the fact that this is not my type of book. If you are into a spicier book, however, you may disagree with me. I also felt like the book was too lengthy at points; some chapters could have been shortened. These are the only reasons I gave it a four instead of a five star.

Sweeney is clearly an expert at writing, as evidenced by her amazing style and her witty, natural dialogue throughout the book. She explores heavy issues in a contemporary, unique way.Emma's character shows that we all struggle with issues in life and especially with love, but these issues can be overcome. She also demonstrates the value of friendship, a great message for every modern woman.

I pre-ordered and waited...waited and then devoured BREATHE IN.
I am absolutely in love with NEW Author Martha Sweeney
I started this book at 1am, once it hit my kindle. I stayed up all night tweeting, swooning and ranting to Martha along the way. When I tell you that her writing has blown others out of the water, that is not said lightly. Not only was I happily overwhelmed with how fabulous she wrote all the characters and gave us back story without losing my interest, she also gave me such detail that it placed my imagination inside of Emma's. I was with her at her home, with her friends and easily lost myself in a fabulously detailed book world. Martha has delivered, to me, one of my new favorite heroines. Emma is strong beyond words. She is the most uninhibited, unashamed sexually healthy mid-twenties female I have ever read.

WHOA, HEAR HER ROAR!

I am so happy to have the roles reversed for once in a novel that lets me enjoy all the erotica and sexiness I want too, from the strong female lead without cringing about the reasons why they have a sexual appetite so fierce to begin with. You all know what I'm getting at... the baggage, or unresolved personal issues. I loved how Emma has things to deal with from her past, yet, she doesn't let those emotions flow into how she treats the people few close to her. Yes, she needs to work on things, obviously - i.e. the entire reason for her rules and not wanting to form attachments, however; the friendships she does put time and energy into are wonderfully fulfilling and I, as the reader, felt a part of the entire character list.

Joe, Joe....Joe. Sexy, self confident, accomplished, wealthy and NOT a complete a**hole about it. Most gentlemanly character I have read without losing the whole "OMG, I need this hot man in my life" effect. lol No, usually I don't like gentlemans. I love my alphas, my jerks. Joe's entire persona is unaffected, casual, aloof of his own damn hotness... that in itself is freaking sexy! The mouth on that man.... HAVE MERCY. I want to marry him, hug the crap outta him and shake him all at the same time.

I could go into all the "whys" and the "because" of how I feel about this book and it's characters, but I can't. I'd just spoil it. Breahe In is absolutely one of my favorite new reads of this spring.

*I got sent a file the arc file from the author for an honest review.*
"Breathe Emma. Just breathe."
Oh, Martha. Why do you do this to me?
That ending...I cried. No shame. I cried from the loss I felt at reaching the end of this beautiful story. I kept clicking for the next page but it never came.
Okay, so let me just say I love, LOVE ,the writing in this story! It is immensely rich in details and it makes you take a step back and cherish every word thrown at you. You can easily tell Martha poured her heart and soul into this story. I completely loved it! I've had a little too many easy reads to last me all year already and I'm glad this was not the case! Martha helped me build a unique bond with the main character, Emma, that I haven't had the chance to do anywhere else. And the character development was out of this world! So if you're in the mood for a book that will make you think twice about speeding through, this is the one for you!
The characters are wonderfully complex and felt so very real! I felt like there was a possibility of running into them if I ever decide to visit Pasadena. They have unique professions and I love how today's obsession with technology is engraved into the story too. You also get an inside look into the Chinese culture which I appreciated a lot.
I also love it when characters have a pet in a story. I have one myself and it's just wonderful to see a side of the characters that wouldn't normally leave the privacy of their home. Sadie is adorable and I laughed so hard at her silly antics!
There were several spelling errors but I'm not going to dwell on those. The only thing I disliked was that I didn't get enough of Joe! This story is told only in Emma's point of view so we have limited Joe-time. I couldn't get into his head which made him that much of a mystery. It only made me fall that much harder for him! I just love Joe. He's up there on my top 10 male characters. Ugh. I NEED more Joe! I just can't wait for the next books! Pick this up, I dare you. You won't regret it!

Breathe In by Martha Sweeney has captured both my heart and soul. It will leave readers breathless. I was given this novel by Martha Sweeney for a review. I am happy she was did. The characters are intoxicating and realistic. Martha has wonderfully placed more then just two irresistible characters and a hot romance together. She placed before us readers, a unique set of real life characters. Not just the usual erotic bedroom romance that you can find anywhere. I have to say that after reading this brilliant plot written by Martha Sweeney, I was HOOKED.

Breathe In features a tale of how one dedicated yet hardworking woman in the professional world has these set of rules.. and how one man comes crushing in causing her to break them all. The rules were set to keep her safe. Yet one man, such as Joe Covelli enters into her life. Sex is just something Emma needed and none of the men were able to give her exactly what she needed until Joe. Joe is Emma's best friend's colleague. He is the one that breaks into Emma's emotions. Joe is the one who makes Emma quiver and try to analyze everything she's doing but her heart comes in and stops her. Readers will get an insider's view of Emma and her past and come to love both her and Joe as their new top favorite couple.

I loved reading this debut novel by Martha Sweeney. She created perfect masterpiece that will continued to be read by many as the years come. Her novel is one that is hard to put down until every last juicy and intriguing page has been read. Perfect plot, stunning creativity, and a romance that will leave you completely undone. I highly recommend to Breathe In or in other words to read and re-read Breathe In by this talented writer. I can't wait to read book two in this marvelous new series called Just Breathe. Overall, I rate this story a five out of five stars.

such a sweet, funny, adorable story...i really like the character of Emma in this story such a perfect, strong, independent, smart, beautiful woman from the outside. but from the inside in all of that character she's also had a personalty that it's hard for her to express her feelings even to her best friends...and as for Joe him self all i can say is that 'thank you for being patient with her and being such a gentlemen'

and for Martha Sweeney (the sexy kitten creator)...pleaseeee i need that 2nd book...ASAP

Original Review @ http://sandrathebookworm.blogspot.com...

Wow! Just WOW! This books that ending. Oh, Martha you are killing me woman. Emma is a very successful woman and knows exactly what she wants and a boyfriend is not on the list. She has a very specific set of rules and she has never broken them that is, until she meets Joe Covelli who is making it almost impossible for Emma to stick to her rules.

I really enjoyed this book it kept me up to the wee hours of the night! I just could not put it down! I loved Martha's way of writing, she describes everything so vividly and thoroughly it makes you appreciate the book even more. I loved the diversity and the complexity of the characters it made them that more real and easier to connect with. Emma was such a strong independent woman that takes crap from no one! I loved her character; I'm glad that we got a glimpse to some of her background and saw how she overcame her past and became a successful business woman. Joe, Oh Joe, move over Grey because here comes the amazing Joe Covelli! I really loved his character and the way he was so patient with Emma and never pushed or got mad when she said no. I also feel for Joe! That ending was brutal, I'm glad I have the second book to start it right away. I really liked how Martha made both Emma and Joe successful is not your typical millionaire finds a young college grad kind of thing that we see in most books. Another thing I really enjoyed was all the Chinese culture that was written throughout the book, I learned so many new things and I loved it!

Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to get on with the second one and find out what happens between Joe and Emma. If you are looking for an adult romance with some steamy scenes, a strong, successful woman, or you're just looking for your new book boyfriend, look no further this is the one.

Holy Hell! I was hooked by the description as well as the fact that the main character's name is the same as mine. This didn't feel like a long read, giving just enough detail and description. There are too many books out there that lack substance and Breathe In by Martha Sweeney has it all!!

This was an awesome read and a 'breath' of fresh air when it comes to romance novels (Yes, I meant for the pun). I can't wait for books two and three!!

Finally, a dominant female who feels realistic - one who I actually believe I could meet in real life. The character development was wonderful and I felt like I was right there in every scene. I loved the flow of the story and how everyone in it interacts.

Emma's business savvy sense mixed with her rigid exterior and sassy wit is infectious. Maggie is a hoot - her bubbly personality is the perfect thing needed to balance Emma. Jared is AWESOME! Nathan is hilarious! Sadie is a delight!

And . . . JOE COVELLI . . . YES, PLEASE!!! (drooling) He's a perfect gentleman - which more women should be looking for and I can't wait to see his I NEED MORE JOE! OMG!

The Ending . . . WTF?! It was great . . . don't get me wrong, but seriously . . . you leave us hanging with that?! I NEED BOOK 2 RIGHT NOW!

Thank you for not jumping into Joe's POV and I hope it doesn't come because I love Emma's POV and the growth that she's already experienced in just this book. I can't imagine what you've got planned for her.

You can't not fall in love with Joe. He's this great guy who steals everyone's heart the moment he steps into the scene. I also love Jared equally much. I have a thing for a kind-hearted secondary character and Jared wins the best friend award.

Emma is irritating sometimes. It's like we have two Emmas, the cold headed businesswoman and the scared little girl. The fact that most readers felt frustrated with Emma shows how accurate the author's potrayal of her character.

The steamy scenes will make the readers steaming and blushing. After that cliffy ending, I can't wait to know what's next.

I won't lie, this book took me a minute to get into, because I had a hard time relating to the main character, Emma. However, as the story progressed, and more layers of her personality were exposed, I began to enjoy the story more and more. This is a sexy read, and Emma's attraction to Joe is quite fun to watch (or rather, fun to watch her try to fight it).... Well done, Mrs. Sweeney!!

Still reading but so far I'm loving this book. The attention to detail in describing the characters really adds to the story and I really enjoy the interactions between the main character and her friend/coworker. It is truly refreshing to see new writers who can keep up with the legends.

ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Breathe In is one of those books that’s very rich in details that you get to know almost everyone in the story. And there are a lot, by the way. Emma Peterson, the main character, is one of my favorite heroines. She’s intelligent, business-savvy even when she didn’t go to college, sexually-driven, strong, independent woman who’s a health buff, too. Minus the issues, she’s the perfect girl but she has them along with the eight rules she lives by. Still a perfectly normal human though. Then there’s Jared, her gay best friend whom she works with her wellness blog, Naturally Me. There’s Maggie, best friend #2 who’s the COO of her other company, Raven Media. There’s also Nathan, Jared’s boyfriend and owner of the clothing line, Nathaniel’s, in which Emma had a huge investment for it to get in to the real business scene. Henry, Maggie’s boyfriend turned husband at the latter part of the story , was there too. And of course lastly, Joe “Blue Eyes” Covelli (dreamy sigh), Henry’s best friend and one who has the hots for Emma. Since Emma’s parents were no longer around, the only family she treats as one are Jared, Nathan and Maggie. And their families.

THINGS ABOUT EMMA
-Beauty with brains—thus the money—and body
-Comfortable with her own skin
-Health enthusiast and a book worm
-Generous and loving but only to the people who are close to her
-Reserved kind of person

THINGS ABOUT JOE
-So into Emma
-Decent guy and the perfect gentleman
-Rich young man who knows how to makes his own money
-Can charm anyone including Emma’s Sadie and Maggie’s family
-Funny, honest and hot

I like that it’s a a smart book. Looks like Martha has done her research! There’s a lot of business talk that I couldn’t get my head wrapped around with because I didn’t know a single thing about running one or business per se. It even defended self-pleasure—not that it’s a bad thing, but it’s not acceptable by everyone. I’m glad that it’s not your typical romance where the hero was the flawed one. This time, it’s the girl. And it was a refreshing read. I like how she cares for Sadie and that dog’s quite a charmer. But basically how she cares for her only family left and how she could be generous to them whenever she wanted. Imagine giving each of her best friends Teslas. But then again, she could afford it. She has solid cash flow for that and then some.

I also like how things progressed between everyone including Joe and Emma. I like that they really started as friends and how Joe wanted to get to know more about Emma. And Emma being open enough to him. I commend Joe’s patience because not all guys could handle all the waiting. But I guess it’s possible if you really like the girl, right? It was nice to see how playful, fun, happy, serious, sad, hurt those two could be when they were together and when they weren’t. There wasn’t any action between the two of them since Emma was quite consistent with her rules until it’s time to break one or two or three. Yay sexy time!

I really wanted to knock some sense to Emma because I really don’t see the point of her rules. Giiiirl, Joe is a good guy and you know that. You could’ve just done it and get it over with so we can all move on. But really, WHY ARE YOU SO FREAKING COWARD?! I did not expect that from you! But still the girl won’t budge (even when there’s the tension, the feels, the flirtation) and I hated it. LOL. Blame that on the fast-paced books that I read.

I’m really all on Joe’s side because of that cliffy but I guess this is one of those books that is all for women empowerment. Only a few chapters in and I already sensed that. It remained as that until the very end. By the time I was finished, I was craving for more but I got nothing! Freaking cliffy! But to be honest, I think that’s what made this book worth my while. It made me want more and in my book, that’s already good.

THINGS THAT BOTHERED ME THOUGH
-I had to miss a lot of scenes where there’s a F/F and M/F/F action. I mean, I didn’t know there would be those! I was so not prepared! LOL but anyway, I just skipped them altogether because the book’s entirety was still interesting. Like one author told me, those themes are not for everyone. I am one of not for everyone group.
-Emma’s demons were still unresolved until the ending of book one. It’s just hanging there but I think Martha’s saving the best for last in the last two books. That I have to find out.
-Emma’s pointless rules that I didn’t really get where she’s coming from. I think it’s to protect herself, of course, but I’m still missing the point of it all.

I couldn’t believe that this is Martha’s first book ever! With the way she narrated Breathe In, it looked like she’s been doing it for so long already! I just wished the book were proofread well because the copy I was given with had at least 10 misspelled words. And maybe not THAT long? Because this one was.

I don't know where to start on how incredible this book is but I'll do my best. I was late for everything and became a night owl due to this story. I LOVE the main character Emma. She is a strong, independent, loyal, honest, and guarded woman that's empowering to read about. She has resolve and has a heart of gold for her loved ones; her family. She's endured hardships that she managed to come out fighting from and has learned to take control of her surroundings and herself. She's so relate-able and I even found myself WANTING to be like her.

Her Family of friends is BEAUTIFUL. The people she surrounds herself with are caring and devoted. Her closest friend Jared won my heart on the first meeting and the way they support and defend her is meaningful. The book doesn't just explore one type of love and I commend that. Most books make you want to skip ahead to interactions with the main couples but in the world Martha Sweeney created the people are so realistic and lovable there's no reason to skip a word.

Her descriptions draw you in but are to the point and make you feel like you're there. I feel like I took a trip to California.

The chase between Emma and Joe is phenomenal! The entire book is a guessing game of when and how, when and how. The skillful wooeing of Joe is hotter than He**! I want to meet a Joe. Joe is a wonderful male lead with personality and heart. He makes the reader fall in love while wanting to know more about him. He isn't pushy or selfish. He rises to the challenge of winning Emma like a pro. His family is so great! Especially Jimmy!

This book took me on a ride of emotions and sensuality is the biggest one. I feel depressed that it's over but over the top ready for the second book. Something I will be buying tonight because I NEED more Emma and Joe! This book is a best seller and there is true soul in the writing. I want more from the Author and will be reading any other books she puts out. BUY THE BOOK!

I thought this book was fan-friggin-tastic! Although, I am finding that I just LOVE Martha Sweeney’s books. She has the BEST and strongest women characters! Emma is just headstrong and severely independent. I loved observing how she has turned her passions into lucrative business ventures for her.

This book pulled my heart strings! Most of the books I’ve read lately have this total Alpha male… and that’s ok! But Joe was just actually swoonable! He was such a GOOD guy! Emma never had a chance staying away from him. I enjoyed reading about the Chinese New Year and learning something new. I’ve always loved it when I can leave a book and have new knowledge in my mind and not just a kick butt story! This book gives you things… knowledge, a nice escape. You’ll find yourself begging Emma to give a bit and Joe to put his foot down! LOL It was a total role reversal for me… but I LOVED every single word!

This was a bit of a long book especially to be a trilogy but, again, it was a great story with people I enjoyed reading about so I didn’t have any problems with its length. Martha is a fantastic storyteller. Her characters come to life right in front of you. I seriously, very highly recommend this book. I really felt like it was inspirational. Emma is such a strong woman.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

I got to chapter 9 before I quit. I really tried to like this book, but I got so far in the story and nothing has happened.
The author is repetitive and over explains. I get that the protagonist suffered a traumatic experience and has nightmares. But does the author have to write it again and again and again, changing only a minor detail each time. This was pure copy&paste.

Maggie's family. Emma loves them, I get it. But the description of so many family members, specially when I'm not used to Asian names, at the beginning of the book is distracting. She goes on and on about this family and its traditions, then they go to the background. Man, seriously?

I have no problem with Emma being so sexual. What I didn't like is how much the author drags this part of her for chapters on.

When does the real story start? For chapters I've been reading the introduction of the story and I'm fed up with it.

I give up.

I don't usually find books where the female lead is such a strong, dominant character, but I really liked it here in Breathe In. Emma is a successful owner of two businesses, but she's a very private person and keeps things very close to the chest. Her friends Jared and Maggie are part of her very close-knit circle of friends, and she has her "list" of rules to live by, especially when it comes to sex. I'm not usually a fan of F/F, but I was fine with it in this book, given Emma's proclivities and her sex drive. I would have liked to see her loosen up a little earlier in the story, but I think this was how her story with Joe was meant to be. Joe was a hottie but such a good guy. He was just what Emma needed, and I really loved how they went from friends to lovers. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and also own a copy.

I'm not going to lie. This book took me a little while to get into. That didn't deter me. The more I read, the more I wanted to read it. It's a long read, but it's worth it. I loved the bond between all the friends. Although Emma has her rules, she has her reasons. There were times I wanted to shake her, knock some sense into her, but she was the way she was for a reason. JOE. He was the sweetest man. Emma's rules didn't scare him. He took his time with her. The whole book was a tease. At last, things were starting to turn around for them, then, BAM! It ends. Hoping the next book comes out soon because I was definitely left wanting more.

Loved her book. It kept me waiting and wanting. Thankfully, I had bought the box set. I couldn't wait to get to book two. I can't wait to find out what happens. This book is definitely worth the buy/credit.

I love the idea of the story. It kept me interested. Joe is hot by the way!

Why I didn't give it a 5 star is because the editing is distracting. I will continue to read the books in the series because I want to know what happens, but the editing really should be fixed.
