The remaining candidates meet for a final showdown to determine who will be the next god. Professor Yoneda plans to prevent a new god from being chosen at all costs. Mirai has finally stepped up and will assume the mantle of god if it means stopping Yoneda. Who will survive the confrontation and who will become the new god?
Tsugumi Ōba (Profile in Japanese: 大場 つぐみ), born in Tokyo, Japan, is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His/her real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.
There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.
This volume solidified Platinum End as my favourite Manga so far, by far
This is story about difficult choices. About difficult dualities.
It's also a great love story between Mirai and Saki. A story of hope.
I use to like Yoneda but now he has became the part of me that I never want to let dominate my actions. We lose our humanity when we let logic and racional to dominate our actions. Sometimes the most loving, caring and humane step to take is not the most logical one.
Platinum End, Vol. 13 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next six chapters (48–53) of the on-going manga series.
The meeting of the five God Candidates continues. Gaku Yoneda with Shūji Nakaumi by his side and under the influence of the red arrow tries to explain to the rest of the God Candidates: Mirai Kakehashi, Saki Hanakago, and Yuri Temari his reasoning as to why he needed to be God, while keeping secret that he wants to make sure that no God is chosen, by mutual annihilation.
His reasoning to become God is an odd combination of nihilism and predestination – as he views humanity is destined to die within half a millennium. Naturally, the opposing three disagrees as Gaku Yoneda expected and asked to speak with the opposing member chosen to be God – Mirai Kakehashi one-on-one, which they agree. Mirai Kakehashi and Gaku Yoneda would speak one-on-one, while the rest returns to the capital building, which turns out to be a trap.
Surprisingly, Mirai Kakehashi shoots a white arrow at Gaku Yoneda, but he easily dodges. Knowing that this tête-à-tête would be fruitless, Gaku Yoneda would force Mirai Kakehashi to give up his claim to becoming God. First he stops Mirai Kakehashi in trying to kill him as he proved that Saki Hanakago is captured and he has Shūji Nakaumi on the ready to kill her – that works. Secondly, to seal his fate Gaku Yoneda forces Mirai Kakehashi to choose his life or Saki Hanakago's, which he was willing to lay down his life.
As the white arrow is approaching him, Mirai Kakehashi is saved not once, but twice. First by Nasse, who is demoted, because she interfered with her God Candidate and their fate, because of her demotion, Mirai Kakehashi loses his abilities to shoot white arrows and have to choose between red arrows and flight – he chooses red arrow. The second time his is freed by Saki Hanakago, who is surprisingly freed.
This tankōbon is written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It deals with the confrontation between Gaku Yoneda and Mirai Kakehashi in order to peacefully determine the next God. The reasoning behind Gaku Yoneda wanting to become God is quite confusing and I have to read it a couple of times – not sure if it is the translation of the text that is confusing, but it could have been clearer. Otherwise, the narrative was done rather nice.
All in all, Platinum End, Vol. 13 is a wonderful continuation of the series and I can't wait to read more. I am intrigued to find out how the story continues.
And now just one more issue remaining to the end of the series. So let's go and let's keep on reading.
I have always loved comics, and I can, and I have. I love comics to bits; may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more. You should also read what you love, and I hope you will always love it. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics, Mangas, Mahwas, and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
I still despise the antagonist Yoneda, how he is just pure science and logic, he is so arrogant and only believes what he believes. Not my ideal villain for the finale of this series, at this point its not putting me on the edge of my seat seeing how the story will end, its alot of nothingness, i’m just hoping Mirai beats Yoneda, i can’t stand his character, his back story doesn’t give me any reason of justifying or understanding his actions, he’s just a really intelligent person, who’s arrogant in their beliefs and has no human interactions or sympathy for others
I miss the action and evilness of Metropoliman in the first part of this series, i still say that he should have been the finale big bad villain of this series and not Dr. Yoneda. I get the whole battle of different viewpoints of humanity beliefs but this is very dragged out and doesn’t keep me sucked into the story as it did with Metropoliman
With all of the remaining god candidates meeting to discuss the finally of the competition the world looks on as events are broadcast to the masses. Professor Yoneda is smart but cold in his calculations of what is yet to come and Mirai is younger and passionate to a fault as the two of them collide in beliefs of whether humanity will be better off with or without a new god. To be honest the last few books have been pretty anticlimactic with all of the other god candidates and their associates discussing their own beliefs until a concession could be made but in this one Yoneda and Mirai are set in their beliefs and being smart Yoneda knows how to manipulate the odds in his favor. However things are not always going to follow the odds as humanity has shown in the past that a strong spirit will sometimes conquer the odds against them even if things seem depressingly bad.
Everyone converges on the stadium for the 'final discussion' and we find out that Dr. Yoneda believes that humanity will overcome death within a couple centuries and conquer time in a few more, only to discover that everything is predetermined, meaning that free will is a myth, thus resulting in all of humanity losing the will to live and choosing extinction. Personally, this sounds like pure speculation or maybe it's too big brained for me to fully comprehend.
But then Yoneda manages to separate Mirai from the other, hold them hostage, and force Mirai into a corner so Yoneda can take him out, because his ultimate goal is the death of all the god candidates, thus preventing anyone from becoming the thing called god.
