A down-on-her-luck woman finds her perfect home—but a surly cowboy claims it’s already his!

She has one last chance to turn her luck around…

Pippa is homeless, jobless, and dead broke. Her last chance for salvation may be in her late aunt’s dilapidated house. One tiny problem… she’s got Bear trouble.

Bear’s had his eyes on the old Crivelli eyesore for years, and now that he’s bought it, he’s determined to tear it down. All is well… until a sassy, sexy woman rolls into town and claims the building for herself.

The house is a death trap, but Pippa’s determined to make herself a home. Every repair she makes brings her closer to the gruff cowboy who sets her body aflame. And the more she gets to know him, the more she discovers that he needs a home as much as she does—and she just might be his.

I’m so surprised and disappointed this didn’t work better for me. I started reading this author last year and was impressed with her writing from the get-go and I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried before this. I expected this new series would continue in that vein. Turner excels at characterization but I’m sorry to say I didn’t see that here. Pippa was pretty much a caricature. I really struggled with her, especially her magical thinking. It’s not great to agree with Pippa’s worst thoughts about herself during the low moment but honestly, she was a mess and I didn’t understand why Bear fell for her as fast as he did. I questioned Bear’s judgment a lot—why on earth would be drive the tractor over to Pippa’s house every day? It’s a waste of gas and time. If he had to do it, why wouldn’t he take his truck? My farmer grandfather would be ashamed of him. The secondary characters weren’t much more grounded either. I wasn’t sure why Bear or Pippa loved their siblings as much as they did. Allie was a wet blanket and Thorne was an uncaring asshole.

There were a few too many Romance Reasons happening here. Why wouldn’t Bear and Thorne just make sure the money for the property was transferred to Pippa and why wouldn’t she take it? The attachment to an uninhabitable house made no sense. I wondered if this was possibly trying for a loose fairy tale retelling but I couldn’t tell which fairy tale it would be. The tone was unbalanced, as if the story couldn’t decide whether it was going to go for nonsensical romcom hijinks or deal with more serious things like family estrangement and grief. The hijinks were very much not my cup of tea. They also took away from the focus on the relationships, both between Pippa and Bear and between them and their siblings. Those elements all needed more care. I was particularly surprised this didn’t really deal with the recent death of Pippa’s parents, when their loss was part of the catalyst for her moving to Cabrillo.

This may in part be due to the way Turner decided to handle COVID-19. Or not handle it, as it were. There are mentions of lockdown, quarantine, and mass deaths but the pandemic itself is not named and when Pippa thinks about how her parents died, she refuses to name the cause of death, only that it prevented her from being with them. Authors all have different ways of dealing with the pandemic in their writing and that’s valid. Some are starting to grapple more openly with it, whereas others act as if it hasn’t happened in their fictional worlds. To each their own. I needed much more detail in this case. If that’s how Pippa’s parents died, name it. If the pandemic is over—and it must be since no one is wearing masks or is concerned about any variants—then name it. (It’s hard to imagine a world where the pandemic is over and no one talks about it or the various ways it impacted our lives.) Without addressing it more head on, I didn’t know what to make of Pippa’s losses or why grief wasn’t foregrounded more in the story. She and her sisters barely acknowledged it and I couldn’t understand why. The omission may not bother other readers but it did bother me.

At least there was Tybalt the cat, who stole every scene he was in. I’m hoping book 2 in this series will work better for me.

Characters: Pippa is a white feed store employee. She has a persnickety cat named Tybalt. Bear is a white cattle rancher and beef farmer. This is set in Cabrillo, CA.

Content notes: FMC injured after house collapses (broken foot and ribs but otherwise okay), MMC kidnaps his brother in order to force his siblings to reconcile, recent death of parents (ostensibly from COVID-19), brief panic attack, recent death of estranged great-aunt, estranged brother, secondary character recounts sexual harassment by her roommate’s boyfriend, MMC plans on building a meat processing plant, on page sex, alcohol, gendered insults, ableist language, mentions of quarantine and lockdown, mentions of mass deaths, mentions of bodies kept on refrigerator trucks because there was no time to bury them, mention of nightmares, reference to pet dog who survived coyote attack (past)

I LOVED THIS COWBOY ROMANCE!!

I loved this! Such a sweet story about family, forgiveness, hope, romance and magic.

The animals and their personalities, how Pippa was so motherly to them and loved them even when they were ornery, it had me laughing out loud and relating so much to her. Pippa really is such a likable character, very relatable to me.

Bear…poor Bear…stuck in the middle of sibling rivalry between his twin and his older brother, always trying to make people happy. When Pippa came in to his life she became his one and only person to truly make happy, and she made him happy back. It helped him become the peacemaker in his family. Both He and Pippa cared so much about their families.

This was my first book by Turner and definitely won’t be my last!! I’m excited to get the next book in this series!!

Cute Romance . . .

The characters Pippa and Bear are ready to fight over the farm her aunt left to her and her sisters. Pippa is homeless and jobless. Her only remaining choice is to go to the place her aunt left for her. The house is in bad shape. But she is willing to put in the time to repair it. She has no other options.

Bear Westfall said he had purchased the house and was ready to tear it down. It was dangerous and not fit for living. But it’s all Pippa has. Will Pippa and Bear find a way to work together and make a home for her to live? Would he perhaps be invited to live there as well?

Cowboy, Take Me Home by Genevieve Turner
Cowboy Homecoming #1

What fun to return to Cabrilo and enjoy the beginning of a new contemporary romance series set in a place I grew to love when this author first introduced in a historical romance series. I have loved every book this author has written and look forward to reading her work for years to come!

What I liked:
* Pippa: a woman down on her luck, dogged by a family curse, one of four sisters, ready for a break, in need of a bit of magic, and perfect for Bear
* Bear: cowboy, brother, hard worker, gruff, has dreams for the future, trying to get fractured family back together again, and perfect for Pippa
* Feline Tybalt and canine Howie
* The writing, plot and potential for the series
* The chuckles as I read
* Getting to know the Crivelli and Westfall siblings and wondering which one will star in the next book of the series
* Seeing how people I remember from a previous book I read and loved are doing later in life
* The animals…all of them…
* Watching the romance grow between Pippa and Bear
* That it made me smile
* All of it really except

What I didn’t like:
* The tough situations more than one character in the story was facing
* Having to wait for the next book in the series

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!

Thank you to Booksprout and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

DNF at 30%

The story started off OK, the writing was clear , the FMC was a little dingy but ...then it began a descent to stupidville. She's broke, not even gas money, yet miraculously gets her utilities turned on. The deceased aunts farm that She moves into, the lawyer claims had no relatives to inherit.. Yet her Cousin that owns the local feed store is the guy that gives the FMC a job? The FMC complains that she's so upset about losing her apartment/job that she can't even tell her sisters...yet her sister shows up only days later with a moving truck before she even asks to move in.. Plot holes big enough to drive thru. Characters calling her a him/his. Just a confusing mash and last but not least Flying Chickens and magic. DELETE. DELETE. DELETE.

DNF due to TSTL heroine

The heroine of this story is an idiot with an abysmal lack of understanding of just about everything, including the concept that she's not entitled to anything sold while the seller was still alive. I can endure ignorance for a bit, but not sheer stupidity.

Pippa Crivelli found herself in Cabrillo, California after she lost her job and her ex-boyfriend fell asleep setting the couch on fire getting her evicted. Her great aunt Esme had passed away three months prior leaving a house and a small piece of property to her and her sisters, since their parents the only other relatives passed eight months before. The Crivelli curse was working overtime bring bad luck her way. Her car ran out of gas a half a mile from the house. She was flat broke. When she finally got to the house with her cat, Tybalt, it was only to discover the house was falling down and practically unlivable. One wall was already starting to cave in and could give way at any time, but Pippa with no place else to go was determined to make this her new home. There was only an old cook stove and heating stove inside. All the other appliances and furniture were gone. She did find some old linens and blankets in a closet. The morning after she arrived Bear Westfall showed up to push her house down as his family had bought the property from the estate. Fortunately, before he started he did a walk through discoveriing Pippa. He tried everything to get her to leave, but she refused. They all ended up into a lawsuit over the property of who actually had a right to it, because the aunt had started the sale before she passed, but the papers had not been signed. The greatest thing about this book was like there was three major stories going on at once. We had the romance between Bear and Pippa, then there was Pippa and her sisters, and let's not forget the Westfall siblings. Pippa and her sisters had seemed to drift apart some with Pippa thinking she was at loose ends and somewhat a failure beside her sisters as she just could not get it all together. Getting to the farm seemed to give Pippa a whole new confidence in herself as there she found a strength and courage to help two of her three sisters, Lulu and Allie when they came seeking refuge. The Westfall siblings were a mess. Sayer the oldest brother had already threw in his hat leaving the family ranch, because Thorne one off the twins had a my way or no way attitude, and the other two were well on the way out the door. Everyone in town even had a problem with Thorne. He was how the Crivelli's got an attorney to take their case for free was to get back at him. Oh the romance was a super, super slow burn with the most subtle courtship like magic. Bear was so caring each morning coming to check on Pippa to make sure she was okay bringing a secret gift the household needed. Helping her with things around the house. Them talking together helped solve some of the their individual family problems. They knew they should not be together because of the lawsuit, but they could not help themselves. You will find some humor in this story with a couple of my favorite being first when Thorne came to Pippa's to get Bear because their stock was out he and was not answering his phone. Thorne was really giving it to Bear for not caring about their ranch and being off somewhere else not attending to business. When Pippa got in Thorne's face and started yelling at him that Bear worked just as hard as he did. With Thorne standing there saying she yelled at me. She really yelled at me. The other great funny moment happened real early in the morning when Bear ttied Thorne up taking him to Sayer's house to settle the family disagreement. Bear had plain and simply had enough from everyone. This was a page turner for sure, but they will not be burning up any sheets in this book as there was only one minor bedroom scene.

Genevieve Turner has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Pippa and Bear. Pippa and Bear are in a battle about the land from her Aunt Esme. Bear and his brothers think that the land is theirs. When Pippa comes and starts fixing up the house, Bear has the task of getting her to leave. Things don't go so well for him since she tells him she is not leaving even with him telling her the house could fall in on her at any time. There is something that draws Bear to Pippa, so he goes to see her every morning. the more time they spend together, the closer they get to each other. Pippa starts getting gifts left for her every morning and she thinks it's magic since she doesn't know who would leave them. Bear starts helping Pippa with the property and his brother Thorne is not happy with this. Thorne is more worried about all the money they spent on getting Esme's land so that they could build a processing plant on it. Now with Pippa there, they have to wait until things are settled. Bear has invited Pippa to the Barn Ball and at first, she is not sure about going with him. She thinks about it for a few minutes and decides to go with him. When Bear goes to pick her up, he is floored by the way she looks. When they get to the Barn Ball, she thinks things will be weird with what is going on between them and the land. Pippa and Bear had fun at the Ball and when they leave, Pippa wants to go and see his goats. They talk about what is going on and Pippa finds out that Bear is going to be selling his goats if things don't get settled soon. They go back to Pippa's house and she told him that her sisters are gone to get Allie's things from the IRS. Bear tells her that he is worried about her staying at the house again because it could fall in at any time. They spend the night together and the next morning, Things go bad for Bear. Thorne comes by and sees things from their mother and he gets mad. Pipa goes after her sister when Thorne scares her and the worst thing happens. The wall that Bear was worried about falls in on Pippa along with a few others. Bear is able to get Pippa out and she is hurt. She is taken to the hospital but she won't see Bear at all. She is released the next morning and she is taken home. She has had a chance to think and knows that she did Bear wrong by not letting him know she was fine. Unknown to her, he has come up with a way to get everyone what they want.
Will Pippa give Bear a second chance?
Will things work out between Bear and his brothers?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

This was a cute book with very likable characters. This is the first book of the series, but I believe they can be read as standalone stories. This is Pippa and Bear’s story.

Pippa is down on her luck and she finds herself seeking a new start. She decides to lay claim to her deceased Aunt’s farm home. She wants a quiet refuge to start again. She arrives and finds a hot mess and a handsome cowboy attempting to block her from her new life.

Bear can’t believe anyone would try and live in that old house. He and his family own the land around it and purchased the home to tear it down and expand their operations. He did not know that there was any family to lay claim to the land, let alone a beautiful niece that he now can’t stop helping.

These two are amazing together. They are supposed to be at odds, but can’t ever stay that way. Their attraction is real and I love that they don’t fight it. It makes the book even better. The secondary characters are good too. My only complaint is the ending felt rushed, but other than that I enjoyed this story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

She's on her last option going to the house left to her and her sisters by her aunt. He shows up to bulldoze the house thinking he and his brothers have bought the land. Battle lines are drawn. Watch the sparks fly! The author brings a colorful cast of characters centering on Pippa and Bear. She does a great job building the story and painting her scenes perfectly. I was glued to the pages with all the happenings .. the drama and humor .. all the emotions. It's told in the dual POV bringing all the feels as they are trying to deal with their attraction on top of the issues. I loved this story and am looking forward to the next book. Very entertaining read. Highly recommend.

Pippa and her sisters inherited a house and farm from their aunt, so when she is at the stage of no home, no job and no money, where else can she go. The house is in bad shape but she thinks she can repair it. Bear and his family had just bought the farm and had plans for it, but surprise - someone is now living there. Bear keeps warning her about the wall that will collapse and when it finally does, it hurts several people including Pippa. The characters have great backstories and determination. The storyline has drama, danger, surprises, romance, big decisions and much more. Very entertaining plot and good ending.

She loses everything so goes to long unseen aunt’s house. Aunt died with sale of home unfinished. Nobody notified family (cause her parents both die in COVID). So she squats and local lawyer ticked at those trying to buy takes case for free. Cousin in town hires her for feed store. 1 of 3 bros insta falls for her. Helps her. Twin is horrible person and has alienated other bro. One at a time sisters show up, too. Set credibility aside and enjoy this silly story. It was a fun read so long as I didn’t fight the storyline.

Pippa Crivelli is really feeling like the Crivelli family is cursed. Suffering several tragedies in her life she finds herself running back to the place they used to visit family in her youth. Shes down on her luck and feeling hopeless but knows she can't give up. When she meets a surly cowboy neighbor, Bear Westfall, who thinks he owns the land she's on they antagonize each other. I couldn't help but root for Pippa that her luck and that of her family got better and Bear although gruff at times was an absolute sweet heart and the true meaning of cowboy! Great way to start this book set!

Here we have a very good romance, cowboy style, grumpy style, magic style - a story that was a delight to read. The characterization in the story is just so beautiful, the grumpy, the believing, those who brought magic, probably the best is to say that all the characters were a delight. Overall a very good story and one that is truly deserving of the fabulous four stars I am giving it here.

This book is a small town romance. The characters Pippa and Bear have great chemistry. Pippa has nowhere to go she has no job she's homeless and her last chances are late auntie's house that was left for her. And now that bear bought the house or so he thought. Can Pippa and Bear work together to make a home well you have to find out.

Bear knows that can't be right since his family bought the farm. Can Pippa and Bear get this worked out? You really need to read this sweet story to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.

Pippa is down on her luck so she goes back to her aunts ranch only to find it rundown and the next door ranch owners are in the process of buying her aunts ranch. Bear comes over everyday to try and get her to leave before it all falls down on her but mostly because she is falling for her. When her other sisters show up it all gets complicated and funny. In the end Pippa and Bear can not deny they are falling for each other and hopefully the other two brothers and sisters get their own story.

Bear and Pippa were fun to read. It made me laugh when Pippa was talking to Bear. Pippa was trying her hardest to feed her animals, milk the goats and look after all the animals she kept acquiring. There was some sex in this story, but I would call it 'delicate', not raunchy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, with all the ups and downs, and it kept me reading to the end.

I hated Pippa

But the way he loved her and their relationship was everything. Dude, she believed in curses and magic. Instead of searching for a legit reason. I'm a witch. I honestly believe in curses and magic. However, I also believe if you aren't actively trying to achieve your goals then it's just a wish. I loved her revelation in the hospital room. The tie-in to 2020 might need a warning for some people because the way it's talked about may hit very close to home.

Okay read, but I found it hard to buy into the brothers needing Pippa's land so badly. Seemed unlikely that that was the only place they could build their processing plant.
Also found it hard to buy into the fact the girls are able to live in the place when it supposedly is so close to collapse (and spoiler alert: it eventually does).
They do a bunch of work on the place but somehow don't do anything to stabilize it, umm wouldn't that be your first priority?

Turner is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are great at bringing the fire but never back down from the heart. Pippa and Bear are a combination of heat and emotion that refuse to be tame. From setting off sparks to touching the soul, Cowboy, Take Me Home is a work of art that exudes a beauty that proves hard not to love.

I love a grumpy Cowboy - and one named Bear is perfect!! Pippa is down to absolutely nothing but the house her aunt left to her - Bear believes it is his house to tear down = the grumpiness doesn't get in the way of romance - loved this story!

An enjoyable story. It did, however, frustrate me that there is a reference that it killed Pippa’s parents, as well as references to the pandemic, thousands of deaths and refrigerator trucks full of bodies, but COVID-19 was not mentioned. Not naming such tragedies increases their power and lessens our chances of coping.

Kept me guessing until the last chapter

I loved all the characters and the suspenseful story. A romance novel with many unique complications that was hard to walk away from. I wanted to keep reading further into lives of these people, at least to the wedding . Excellent story and conveyance.
