Adradis Rising #3

Elven Born: Twilight's Children #1

Rate this book
The world has become one of terrible beauty and endless possibilities. For a human widower and an elf who has given up on finding a mate, that magic is about to bring them together.

Mother Earth has awoken and decimated the humans who have been killing her for millennia. Those who survive are under the care of the elves, but someone—or something—is hunting them. So when a mysterious elf appears in the nick of time to rescue John, it all seems a little too convenient to be believed.

Refusing to let the humans’ distrust stop him, Elan stays to help John through his recovery, taking care of his children and growing close to the little family by the day. When elf and man enter into an impossible soulbond and John barely survives, Elan takes his new mate and his children back to the Summerlands. He wants to help the remaining humans from the evil that stalks them but needs his family safe first.

But when danger strikes, it comes from a place they least expect. Jealousy, anger, and unexpected allies abound, and it’s a race against time for Elan to save the humans he’s come to love. With the children in peril, if he fails, Elan will lose everything that makes his long life worth living.

Elven Born is the third installment in the Adradis Rising series, taking readers to a far future where everything, even magic, is possible. Pick up a copy, and lose yourself in this vibrant world today!

While Elven Born can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel, it will make much more sense if you read King's Heart first.

This book feels like a left turn from the end of last book, but it is really good. I really like John and the kids, and the way the racial tension is treated is pretty interesting and good. I liked seeing the summerlands. The narrative is also easier to follow than the first book, so it feels like the convoluted story thing was a first book only thing and not a Devon thing.
I kind of wish we'd seen more of the characters we met in the previous two books.

This was such a pleasure to read! I read it in one session because I just couldn't put it down.
After Mother Earth destroyed the work of Humankind, the Elves help to wipe off the earth every trace of human settlements and the way they destroyed the Earth with pollution and exploitation. Still some humans have survived the wrath of Mother. One of them is John who lives with his two sons Sam and Theodore in a human colony. He is rescued from a bear trap by some elves, among them the son of the Summer King, Elan. Elan's not happy with the way humans are treated by Elves. He helps John and his children even though his Elven companions are not happy about this and this endangers all their lives. Something is going on in the colony but they understand the danger to them all only when it is almost too late and Sam is very heavily wounded. As soon as possible Elan gets them to the Elven realm to recover completely. It seems not only Mother Earth has a bone to pick with the humans. After Elan more or less accidentally soulbounds with John all hell breaks loose.
I was so spellbound by this book that I didn't want it to end. There is something magical about the world Devon Vesper creates in her books. You get drawn into it just like you were when you were a child discovering the joy of reading for the first time. When the story ends you lift your gaze from the page, look around you and are totally confused and disappointed when you find yourself in your own home.

It's a great book. The creation of this world is superb. It had a depth and complexity that made it fascinating. I was enthralled by the characters in this novel. I was instantly smitten with them. The relationship between elves and humans is fraught with conflict. after suffering for too long from pollution, smog, toxic waste and garbage produced by humans. As the elves worked to heal and replenish the Earth, remaining humans were rounded up into colonies and the elves provided them with food. People were enraged and distrusted by the restrictions placed on them. When elf Elan discovers a human man and two children trapped in a bear trap, he rushes to save the children and the injured man. Despite their best efforts, human beings aren't the only ones who have reason to be wary. A fantastic tale of fantasy! You should check it out! There are no words.

I loved Elven Born by Devon Vesper. It's the third book in the Adradis Rising series and the first book in the Twilight Children series. I was slightly confused about the pronouns used for the Omega elf, Olinder. Both female and male pronouns were used, which kept throwing me off because I was pretty sure he was described as male. Other than that, I loved the story. This story focused on Elan, the crown prince of the Summerlands. Elan ends up soul-bonding with a human named John, who has two kids, fourteen-year-old Sam and seven-year-old Theodore. So much happens in the story, and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I liked seeing more of Morough of the Netherdark and Kaiden and Trovan. I will say that I loved what Mother Earth did to Elan, John, Sam, and Theodore at the end of the story, and I eagerly await the next book in the series.

I loved this book. Excellent world building. It was rich and detailed and intriguing. I loved the characters. I was charmed by them right away. There is a lot of tension between the elves and humans. Mother Earth awoke and destroyed much of humanity after suffering too long from humans' pollution, smog, toxic waste, and garbage. The elves then spent decades trying to heal and replenish the Earth, and the remaining humans were rounded up to live in colonies and the elves bringing them food. Humans were resentful and distrustful of how they were restricted. When elf Elan finds a human man badly injured in a bear trap, along with two children, he rescues and protects them while having the man healed. But the humans aren't the only ones who are distrustful, and there are more dangers than they thought. A wonderful fantasy story! I recommend it! 5 stars.

The premise of the Elven Born is interesting. It's almost like a chastisement of humans for destroying Mother Earth infused with fantasy and Elves.
