For Aurea Belle Shepard, everything she's ever wanted has always been right in front of her. At seventeen, she decides to leave her hometown to get away from her abusive foster father and oblivious foster mother. Her freedom from them is worth leaving everything behind--except her best friend, Prentice.

Prentice has been Aurea's rider and protector since they became friends, so when she returns to their hometown, Prentice tries to reconnect and create those roles for himself all over again. Things are different now. Aurea has changed, her circumstances have changed, and so has her need for him. But there's one thing that hasn't changed and never will--their love for each other. A trip home to say goodbye for Aurea turns into the opportunity to have the life and love she's always wanted.

Meant to Be Yours by Sequaia is about Aúrea Shepard and Prentice Mayor. After years of abuse Aúrea runs away from her foster home to escape and follow her Hollywood dreams. Although it hurts, she leaves her best friend/first love behind. In the 5 years she’s in Hollywood, she experiences more abuse and trauma. The first half of this book is pretty heavy, Aúrea goes through so much. There are moments of happiness but for the most part Hollywood isn’t the safe haven she made it out to be. While Aúrea is going through life so is Prentice. His life decisions unknowingly provides Aúrea an opportunity to come back home. Prentice is a grown man now, he’s so protective! Nothing and no one comes before his Aúrea 🥰 He’s so sure of himself now, Aúrea can’t push him over anymore. I love how Prentice communicates his feelings and is always ready to listen to Aúrea. He doesn’t judge her, he just listens and handles what he can. Prentice is a protector and provider, him not being able to do so for Aúrea when they were younger really messes with him. It’s great to see Aúrea receive help from others but she always emphasizes she wants to save herself, even when she gets off track she finds her way back. The epilogue is sweet, the story is the definition of there’s sunshine after the storm.☀️
CW ~ mentions rape, teen runaway, sexual assault, forced sex work and domestic abuse

So glad that I was able to read this book! I loved it so much! Aúrea went through so much from a teenager to a young adult. I felt for her. Leaving her first love, Prentice, behind must not be easy. I’m not going to lie, it had me in my feels a bit. But when they reunite after 5 years- the way he took his time to love her and take care of her, was top tier! He stood on his word keeping the promise to always protect and take care of her no matter the circumstances! I loved that they were able to have a second chance with each other! 🤎 I’m def going to miss reading about them!

First book from this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Aurea ran away from her foster family after abuse. She also left her young love, Prentice, to go to California and seek stardom. Needless to say, California was a world wind of abuse, homelessness, prostitution, and friendship. Fortunately, she rekindles her friendship with Prentice after going home for a funeral. Thru ups and downs, they find their spark again and Aurea realizes how much Prentice means to her.

I enjoyed this book. The writing is solid and I loved the characters. I liked Aurea's growth throughout the story. I was thrown off by the route Prentice ended up on but the ending was really satisfying.
