As always this author blew me away with this story. It was wonderfully written and planned out. It flowed so well making it a nice smooth read. Easy to read and follow along with. Very unique and a story all of its own. I never felt through out this book of this seems very similar or I think I’ve read something very similar to this, that’s something I love about this author. Her ideas are completely her own!
The characters! Every book I read by her her characters become so real to me. I find myself in deep thought about who works best with whom, or how she gets the characters to have such an effortless friendship. By the end they feel like life long friends, this book was no different. Our heroine is Alice, she is kind of just drifting through life trying to figure out her next step like so many of us. Except for one thing, she has these awful nightmares and think she’s going crazy. Throughout this whole book you never see her give up and she’s always one to forgive when forgiveness is needed. She’s strong, feisty, and quick on her toes! Sebastian is halfbreed, which two species he is I’ll leave for you to learn yourself, confidant in his abilities, keeps his promises, and finds himself knocked off his axis by Alice which both intrigues him and confuses him. Their relationship is beautiful to watch and makes the story so much more than it would be without them. Cole Fitzpatrick, warrior extraordinaire, is quirky, very intelligent, and a bit of a half breed hater. He helps Alice in more ways but angers her just as much. He sees more of what’s going on than most but is still left in the dark. Can you see the love triangle happening? There is one and it’s fun to watch. The other trainees Jessie, Alondra, Jake, and Bronwyn aka Misty are greatly needed and don’t disappoint. I truly loved all of them. Jessie the joker, Misty the moody one, Jake the serious one, and Alondra the one who kind of keeps them together and things light. Jake I think truly grows the most and I love watching him and Alice actually having heart to heart moments and becoming each other’s cheerleaders. Truly beautiful. There are also a lot of professors and teachers who some are amazing and I loved them while others not so much. I’ll leave you to form your own opinions on them.
Angels, demons, warriors and secret societies; secrets, those going against what’s right, and so much more. It’s a nonstop ride of chaos and not knowing who to trust. Laugh out loud moments that give the book exactly what it needs to stay amazing and not become too much. One of the things I loved most about this book is we aren’t learning alone. We aren’t thrown into this new world to try and figure it out for ourselves. We get to learn along with Alice which makes you feel like you are a warrior right alongside her and who doesn’t want a book that creates and escape like that?! This book literally has everything right down to the tender heartfelt moments. A warning though, there were a few times I almost threw my phone but it all worked itself out, although Jake was done a little dirty in my opinion which you’ll need to read to find out!
As I’m sure you’ve learned thus far that overall this book is absolutely amazing, I’ll say it again THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! Now I’ll leave you with a quote that has stuck with me since reading it and hopefully it will get you wanting to read it as well! It’s a quote said to Alice by her father that always stuck with her:
‘When the whole world goes to hell, it’s how you make your own heaven that defines you.’
