The best book from the Publishing house so far!

I find the presentation of this book as the best standard on how to bring out such books!

There are so many stories based on the characters in the Bible. They are short, easy to narrate and easy to read along. The illustrations are perfect: perfect colour choices, perfect artwork.

The reflection parts given towards the end of each story make the book more than perfect!

Thank you, Zietgeist Z Kids, for the review copy.

A Unique Bible Story Book

There are many Bible story books for children—new and classics. Julie Lavender’s CHILDREN’S BIBLE STORIES FOR BEDTIME is a standout in several areas. First, the book is targeted to ages 4 to 8 and prepares them for bed. The opening pages give a series of ideas how to prepare your child for bedtime. As Lavender writes in the introduction: “These biblically accurate, faith-building stories, sprinkled with bright humor, encourage curious minds to think about the character of God and relish the warmth of his never-ending love. At the end of each story, a time of brief Reflection helps you understand God’s Word as it relates to you personally. The Prayer that follows leads you to speak openly and in confident relationship with the one who designed you, remains with you and has a beautiful plan for your life.” (Page 10)

There are 34 Old Testament stories and 18 New Testament stories. While the book includes expected stories like creation, Noah, Moses, Jonah and Jesus, there are also unusual stories like Elisha Helps a Widow and Isaiah, the Special Prophet for the Old Testament and John’s Vision about a New Heaven and Earth (Revelation) for the New Testament. Also, the book includes an in-depth index to help you find the various stories and Biblical figures.

CHILDREN’S BIBLE STORIES FOR will provide sound teaching about the Bible and lasting conversations with your child as you read these stories over and over. I highly recommend this well-crafted book.

This book makes me want to be a child again!

I very much enjoyed the tone, format, and guidance this book provides. Julie Lavender and her illustrator bring these Bible stories to life as each story shares biblical understanding, knowledge to live by, and a touch of wisdom to help point children in the right direction to guide their lives. I especially enjoyed the child-focused Reflection questions that help the little listeners to reinforce the lessons and principles by leading them to see how those lessons apply to their own lives. This book enables children to WANT to learn about God and His ways rather than having to. The sincere prayers at the end of each story helps teach children to pray as we pray along with them. Great book that I am going to enjoy sharing with all the "littles" in my life!

A fresh voice for familiar stories. This book brings Bible stories to life and gently makes them relevant to modern kids. I like the questions interspersed within the stories that capture young listeners and get them thinking about a fun or unique detail.
And the page of questions and prayers is a bonus for any busy parent.

The perfect Bible story book for young kids that I love to see my young son reading on his own.

After a long day, kids need a way to wind down and a book with inspiring children’s Bible stories is just the right book to help with that. This is a wonderful collection of the first stories kids will learn about from the bible. Parents can sit down with their kids and pick a key biblical figure and go over their adventures together with illustrations that will capture kids’ attention and be a great conversation starter.

What I loved most about this was how easy it was to read with my son and know he was understanding and enjoying what we were talking about. It can be hard to get kids excited about reading the bible, but when they see the beautiful pictures and start reading the story that is written in a way they can understand it, this is a good way to get them engaged. Each story is broken down and short enough that the reader won’t lose interest. I love the end of each section that offers steps for settling down for the day, something that can be hard for kids and using these tips can really help. I recommend this book to everyone with small kids wanting a great addition to their nighttime routine that will not only help them settle for the day and feel good about the material their kids are seeing before closing their eyes for the night.

A Treasure for Family Devotions This Christmas Season!
I absolutely love this book! Children’s Advent Stories for Bedtime is everything I hoped it would be and more. The stories are short enough to hold our grandchildren’s attention, yet rich with truth and meaning. Each one draws their little hearts toward the true reason we celebrate—Jesus.

The illustrations are beautiful and inviting, and the short reflections and prayers at the end of each story open such sweet conversations about faith and the wonder of Christmas. I can already tell this will become a new family tradition for us every December!

As a grandmother, I’m so grateful to have a resource that helps us slow down, snuggle up, and focus on what matters most—the promise of our Savior. I can’t wait to share this with our grandkids and watch their excitement grow as we count down to Christmas together.

Highly recommend this for parents, grandparents, and anyone wanting to make Advent both meaningful and memorable for the little ones they love.

If I were a kid today, this would be my FAVORITE book! Even as an adult, I love the way Julie Lavender shares the stories from key passages throughout Scripture. She engages her audience with the way she communicates, and I found myself being pulled into each story. She writes so that kids can understand and enjoy, but also in a way that we adults can appreciate. She includes humor but also keeps the focus on God’s nature. I could just imagine kids’ eyes becoming wider with excitement as the stories progress. And the illustrations help give a picture of what’s going on. Julie Lavender has done a masterful job at providing a book for children that walks them through Scripture in a way that they can understand and engage with. I also love the questions she puts at the end of each story to discuss, as well as a prayer to pray. I highly recommend this book. I wish it had been around when I was a young child!

What a lovely summary of God's Word for little people! The first thing I love about this book is the bite-sized sections. The readings are not so long that they act as a sleep aid and not so short that you feel like important info is missing. Also, the language is geared perfectly for younger children--yet, doesn't seem to do talk down to kids like other Bible story books we've read.

Although the text is not verbatim scripture, the reading remains true to Biblical content. That's VERY important to us, and it's hard to find that perfect balance in children's Biblical literature today. I also really appreciate the thought-provoking reflection questions that follow each reading. Finally, the prayer time at the end of each section provides the perfect segue to lights-out bedtime. This book has earned a prominent place in our bedtime routine with our Grands for years to come.

I cannot wait for my grandchildren to have this book, so I ordered it. While reading the Kindle version, I found the stories to be accurate and engaging. They're written in kid-friendly language with action words and vocabulary that will bring smiles and hold the attention of children who read or listen to them. Parents will thank the author for the bedtime routine suggestions at the front of the book, and they'll appreciate the reflection questions after each story. Julie Lavender not only shares the Bible stories children need to learn, but she weaves in characteristics of God that will teach children to trust Him and apply the lessons of the stories. I wish this book had been available when my children were young. It's excellent!

Have you searched for a bedtime Bible storybook and walked away in frustration because what you wanted wasn’t there? Look no further. Julie Lavender’s Children’s Bible Stories for Bedtime is the one you’ve longed for. It is simply perfection (well, as perfect as we can get here on this earth). Familiar stories to us adults will sound fresh and new to your darlings, but will soon become familiar as they ask to hear them over and over. Told in words your wee ones will understand and illustrated with fabulous visuals so they can see what Mrs. Lavender’s words convey, this will quickly become an absolute favorite. Stories, questions to ponder, and a lovely prayer at the end of each make this the perfect bedtime companion.

This is a great Bible stories book, especially for beginners/kids new to faith. We used it as a family devotional at bedtime (but it could be used anytime of the day). The book covers key stories from both the Old and New Testament and provides scripture references for context & further reading.

I give it 4 stars because I do feel like we needed to add commentary to some of the narratives that implied some meaning where I think mystery is more appropriate. I liked that it encouraged kid-friendly conversation with the reflection questions and added a prayer at the end of each day’s reading. The prayers became our boy’s (ages 7 & 9) favorite part of our reading time and always asked to each read the prayers themselves out loud.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and relatable Bible story book

Verified Purchase
Julie Lavender's new Bible story book is both true to scripture and humorous. The author has woven in explanations that make complicated cultural differences understandable and offers reflection questions at the end of each story as prompts for parents or other adults to use as springboards for discussion. A simple prayer also provides a wonderful model for teaching a child about prayer.

This little Bible story book is a well-rounded purchase and can be used beyond bedtime as a family devotional, in the preschool classroom, or as a Sunday school resource.

I cherished reading to this to my children every night (well, almost every night). My kids looked forward to it too, with one of them always reminding me to read this first before we read another story.

This isn't a replacement for the Bible, but a companion book ... a way for your children to learn some of the most prominent stories in the Bible. The stories are written in a fun way that the kids enjoyed. At the end of each chapter, there are reflections and questions for conversation that you can choose to do or not. Finally, there is a prayer based on story for that chapter.

Having finished this, my kids have already asked if we can read it all again. Of course, I said yes!

Excellent Bible Stories for Children

This is such a refreshing version of Bible stories for children & a great update compared to the older attempts to teach children scripture. I enjoyed the thoughtful categories: Ten things to do before reading at the beginning, as well as the reflection questions & prayer at the end of each story.

I did not expect highlights of the New Testament stories & was surprised to see some of my favorites.

Overall, what a great treat & perfect gift for families to enjoy together. I cannot wait to share this with my grandchildren.

This is an amazing Bible Story book for children. What better habit to begin forming in your children, than for them to read a Bible story before bed each night. These stories are accurate and personal as if Julie, the author, is talking to the children. Want a story about the tower of Babel? It's included. A story about Rebekah? You've got it. How about Elijah? Elisha? Isaiah? Zaccheus? Peter and Cornelius? You'll read all about them in this awesome book! Pick one up for each of your children. You'll be glad you did!

I wish I'd had this book during the years I taught Sunday School to kindergarten children. Children's Bible Stories for Bedtime: To Grow in Faith & Love presents the perfect blend of story, illustration, and reflection. The book is age appropriate (4-8), Biblically sound, and features large captivating pictures. I no longer teach Sunday School, but now I get to read it to my grandkids. A bonus: Parents and older children will enjoy reading Lavender's excellent "suggestions for a bedtime routine."

Not a Bible, just stories

Some good things about this book, every section has "reflections" and a prayer. There is a clickable appendix. The book covers the major stories of n the Bible.

What I don't like is that the stories are retellings from the author's opinion. The stories are changed sometimes to the point that meanings change. Some interjections into the stories felt condescending.

I still recall the special moments my mom read Bible stories to my sister and me. Julie Lavender offers another generation that same opportunity. She concludes each story with related words of reflection and a prayer. I especially appreciate her “Getting Ready for Bedtime” suggestions at the beginning of the book.

Children's Bible Stories is an easy way for children to read the Bible. The stories bring God's Word to life in a child's eyes and the illustrations are excellent. The extra tips are also great for getting the kids ready for bed, relaxing them, and getting their minds ready to receive from the Lord.

Children need a foundation of the Bible. Julie Lavendar’s Children’s Bible stories for Bedtime is wonderful. Children will be immersed in God’s word on their level. There’s a reflection that readers can use to relate to the Bible story and their world today. The ending prayer is a great introduction for children to realize how to communicate with God.

Absolutely Amazing!

I have to say that the first thing that sold me on this book is the fact that it is a bilingual version. It is so difficult to find a Bible based devotional for children that is in both languages (English/Spanish). Sometimes the translations are not correct. However, in this case, both languages are spot on, and that's a rare find.

Secondly, I loved the setup. Each entry tells the Bible story in a simple enough format for the ages it is suited for (ages 4-8). The format of the story, followed by a reflection, a prayer, and beautiful illustrations are the third thing that I loved about this devotional. It is absolutely perfect in every way and is a definite must have for anyone that shares God's Word with children.

Thank you to NetGalley and Z Kids for providing me with a copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.
