I love when books talk about preventing cultural appropriation and closed practice (which this book does). This book is a cute little jar spell idea book for beginners.

Very much as the title says, it's a good start for a beginner's book. With decent generalizations for what is available to beginner practitioners. Along with talking about small tidbits of what other cultural practices might use, and does place a statement in the beginning about cultural appropriation and closed practices which are good. A few things I didn't like was the use of she/her to describe witches and practitioners, most of the time to describe someone the author did use simply practitioner or witch but then sometimes when talking about the practitioner (you as the reader) the idea of witchcraft being for solely women was insinuated, especially when stated to look up to experienced practitioners it was stated as a feminine practitioner which yes obviously you can but to simply say that and that's it lacked the inclusivity and felt as if other practitioners who do not identify with the feminine were excluded not the biggest fan. And honestly, this book was very much a starting point, various topics were listed and I would use this as a guide to learn more on topics as there wasn't a dive or more detailed explanations, especially about the protection at the beginning or the circle, a few examples were given but I felt the explanation on protection and examples were lacking.

Crystal clear descriptions!

I have been reading up a lot on meditation, grounding and centering. The first few books I picked up left me feeling confused, and unsure of my abilities. This book, however put in easy to digest terms that actually made it seem more do-able. It made me realize that failure is caused by not having enough practice, whereas, the other books made it seem like it's something you should just know how to do. finally, a huge struggle I have gained clarity on. It feels good.

There are some useful reference items in this book and a LOT of spells that you can use. Some are significantly more complex (in terms of how many things you need) than others, but there was a pretty good balance. I wish the author had been more mindful of witches identifying by different genders other than female, but I mean, this is what happens in a lot of these books. Just wanted to be transparent about that for anyone for whom that might cause an issue.

Good Ideas

This book is full of some real good information and ideas. My Great grand parents on both mom and dad's sides were Pagan as were both sets of grand parents and both my parents. Paganism is my faith of choice. Although I have never used Jar Spells in my past. I am motivated to give it a try. This book is a great guide for the confidence and know how to enhance my spell work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to do so Phoebe Anderson.

informative

Well written with lots of information presented easily and not overwhelming.

I was looking for a book to help a friend who I believe has a little witchyness in her to help her start her journey. This is it.

Author contradicts herself multiple times and seems to create correspondences and theories on her own, independent of thousands of other resources that say different. Full of hog wash and not worth the paper its printed on.

Lots of typos, especially as the book progressed. Lots of nice spells though that have been simple enough.
