Kindred Tales #40

Loved by the Lion

Rate this book
A Monstrum Warrior who has vowed never to Claim a bride…
An older woman, who thinks she’s done with Love…
Can they come together to save the Earth…and each other?

What’s the worst Christmas present imaginable? A cheating husband? An angry mob outside your front door? What about Menopause? Minister Emilia Oxley has gotten all three this Yuletide season and she could do without them all, thank you very much.

Enter Chief Commander Rarev, the leader of the Monstrum Kindred. He’s had his eye on Emilia from the start. Her courage and determination are incredibly attractive to him, as are her lovely full curves. Also, he can tell by her scent that she’s entering her Second Mating Period—the time of life when a female is most attractive to a Feline Monstrum. Since Rarev is a Lionus Monstrum, he can’t help but notice that Emilia is ripe for the plucking.

After he rescues her from an angry mob, the two of them find themselves on a mission to Rigellen Five. There they must compete against three other couples in a series of Trials to earn the right to mine Yillium. The rare mineral is what the Monstrum need in order to defend the Earth from the Darklings, ravenous creatures from another universe which are threatening to overrun the planet. Only if Em and Rarev win the Rigellen Trials can they gain the rights to the Yillium. But since the Rigellen people believe in public displays affection, the Trials are an intimate affair—extremely intimate.

Can Em and Rarev come together to save the Earth…and might they find love in the process? Read Loved by the Lion to find out!

*Author's note--there is a scene in here that might bother anyone who has ever been attacked before, but I promise it comes out all right in the end. Please read responsibly!

Why do I look forward to these books?
40 books in… hard to keep it fresh.
I do like the new turn to older women.

But what I can’t stand is deus ex machina and this book doubles down on it. Not only does the “goddess” randomly pop in and save the day, like she has in the last 20 books, but this time she talks to the UnBonded human female.
What is the point of a story or plot if the goddess can just pop in and save the day, out of the blue?!

My other issue is … these 2 idiots poor excuses for not being together. Politics?! Really!?

Looking forward to next one! ( but why!?) 😆

I wanted to read this book in 2021 or 2022 as lions are my favorite animal & I'm a fan, so when I saw that Evangeline posted this book as a freebie on her Facebook, I immediately went to Amazon and purchased it. I was making good headway on it when I realized I needed to read another book first (Sin for Me) as it was a library book.

This is one of the best books by EA that I've read. Even though Rarev was a leonine humanoid, Evangeline made him a dreamy, attractive hero. Even his velvet fur and his stroking Emilia were attractive and romantic. I also appreciated the English references like "flat" as Emilia was an English minister and had adopted the philosophy of the stiff upper lip. Emilia was a great, unique heroine: strong, brave, and reserved.

"Petting me, she thought. He’s petting me—stroking me like I would stroke a cat. Only he’s the cat." (p. 152). And then a few paragraphs later, he started purring, which was hilarious. Oh, and his penile enhancements too, LOL. Those short spines that inject pleasure serum into a woman & make her orgasm repeatedly.

There were so many funny moments as well. The other couples competing at the trials for Villium, the substance that the Monstrum needed to protect Earth from the Darklings, were such characters and brought a lot of comedic relief to the plot.

The Amusing Side Characters:
The couple that couldn't stop going at it were essentially sexual performers.
With another couple, I loved the nod to Evangeline's Anderson with Yonnie Six, the alien planet where women believe they're superior to men, who they sexually enslave.
The squid octopus man with the name I won't try to write out here who constantly was cheating on his wife, Channa, eventually saying that her fish vagina was cold & scaly
The Rigellens and their wives who lived as eyebrows and mouths on their bodies. The backstory of how they merged with their wives was fascinating.

The only things I didn't understand was why were the hypersexual couple there if they didn't even need Yillium () (were they just there to show off their sexual prowess and unabating horniness??) & why Queen Elizabeth II was still Queen (EA probably forgot that her book series is supposed to take place in the future? Right? Do I need to read Claimed for a third time?).

Lastly, I LOVED the ending and it brought tears to my eyes!! Now that I am writing this, I realize that it would have been interesting to bring in Emilia's adult children and see their reaction to their mom being with not only a younger man, but one who resembles a lion! LOL

I look forward to reading the rest of the Monstrum Tales and hope she writes one about the Lupine and makes the hero devilish, unlike her typical heroes. (I've already read Shared by the Monstrum.

Rarev and Emilia have a strong mutual attraction. He is a very attractive and authoritative Lionus Monstrum Commander. She is a very beautiful, strong, highly placed Minister in the British government.
Thanks to a rat of an ex who cheated on her and left her for his younger secretary, Em has low self-esteem in regards to any possible attraction for a younger Rarev and does not see what Rarev could possibly see in her. She is experiencing "oh so wonderful" menopause also so ...yay! (insert sarcasm here.)
For Rarev, the attraction he feels for Emilia is off the charts intense. She is one of many women that the Goddess has blessed with generous curves. They are called Elites... more mature, more experienced and extremely desirable to his people.
After a harrowing escape from the humans who feel it's fine to throw bricks through her window, call her names and harass her, the two escape in Rarev's ship. They must go to Rigellen Five and procure Yillium, which is needed to kill the Darklings that are trying to invade Earth and destroy it, like they did Rarev's former home planet.
What transpires next is scary, dangerous, intriguing, embarrassing, frustrating, and extremely hot.
So much happening in this story needs to be experienced first hand by the reader, so I will not be saying much more.
Know this, there is one character that I wanted to do great bodily harm to and others that need to give it a rest already! 😜
A wonderfully written book. I highly recommend this!
Have I left a lot out? Of course I did! What fun would it be if I told all?
Did I mention their chemistry is off the charts?

Narrator Performance: 🎧🎧🎧🎧.25

LOVED BY THE LION is the second book in Evangeline Anderson’s Monstrum Kindred series as well as the fortieth Kindred Tales book. What I loved most about this story is how the hero, Rarev, reminded me of a character in an old TV show that I adored in my childhood. I couldn’t help but picture him as I listened to Mackenzie Cartwright bring the story to life. I believe that it heightened my enjoyment of the story some. That’s what the .25 in the rating is for ☺️

I enjoyed this book more than I did the first in the series. In this installment of the Monstrum Kindred we get a fully flushed out story brimming with the author’s creativity. Something that especially resonated with me was Emilia‘s age related issues. It was fun reading about them in a kinship sort of way.

It was great hearing Cartwright’s British accent for this book. Although I’ve listened to many of her performances I believe this is the first time I’ve heard it. I think she hit the nail on the head with the accent that she affected for Emilia’s lines.

Loved by the Lion, the latest Kindred Tale by Evangeline Anderson, is a notable edition in the Kindred/Monstrum universe. We first met the Monstrum Kindred in Enticed by the Satyr and learned of their mission to escape the destruction to their own universe and save our universe from the same threat. The race known as the Darklings have split the divide between the two universes and have attacked Earth. If nothing can stop them, they will destroy Earth and move out to destroy everything in our universe.
In Enticed by the Satyr we met the Lionus Monstrum Rarev, leader of the Monstrum people, and saw their weapons destroy the Darklings. We also met Minister Emilia Oxley, the highly-placed British delegate to the World Council, who saved Earth. These two must travel to the Ragellen Trials to win the right to mine Yillium, the rare mineral needed to fuel the weapons they use.
The struggles these two face as they compete for the prized Yillium are universal in our world as well. Although we don’t have to decide to sign up for the draft to be a bride, we do have to decide to accept people of other races and cultures. This racial problem is the biggest issue in Loved by the Lion. Will others accept a “mixed marriage” or will they turn against the couple involved?
I absolutely loved this novel. The characters are three dimensional, and the Trials they must compete in are portrayed realistically. We’ll also see some of the people of the Kindred Mother Ship whom we’ve known since the beginning of the series. I believe this Kindred Tale is one of the best Ms. Anderson has written, classic enough to be read again and again.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and the opinions expressed are my own.

One of my favorites and that saying a lot💖💖

Emelia is a very important government official from the UK. In the first Monsterum tale she supported them being able to call brides from earth. They save the entire planet and all they wanted was the chance to finds mates to cherish and love. Because she gave them her support males from earth hate her and protest at her home. Em is used to being in charge and never showing her emotions. She has to keep control of her self it's part of being a very public figure.she's an older woman going through menopause whose husband has cheated on her for most of her marriage and then left her for a younger woman. She doesn't trust easily, but agrees to help Rarev the leader of the Monsterum help get a rare mineral that helps power their guns. Rarev has admired and desired Emelia from the minute he met her. When he realizes he may not be a game to keep his word to protect earth he new who he had to speak too. Commander Sylvan encourages him to speak to Em. When he sees her again his desire only grows. He explains the problem but at the same time Em's home is attacked and he saves her and then the adventure truly beings. The darklings attack and both end up on a mission that will either strengthen their budding bond or destroy for ever. This book was fantastic! I love the mature woman who gets to find true love! It gives me hope☺☺ and I don't know what it is I love all kindred but I adore the Monsterum and I would love to have one of my very own! I can't wait for more!! Highly recommend💖💖💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥

A simply wonderful addition to this series, great characters and scenario

This was a simply wonderful read the characters and the plot was absolutely wonderful and I cannot tell you how when you begin reading you will not be able to put the book down until you reach the final page and discover the outcome and the plot.

Minister Emilia has had the most awful experience you can imagine she has been cheated on and has had a cheating husband that has brazenly cheated on her without so much as a care in the world and now she feels as though her world has been falling apart.
And he is able to tell that she is a very beautiful and attractive woman that is entering her cycle that will allow her to fall pregnant if she was to mate and this is something that she has thought of and he finds this fact to be extremely attractive and he would like the idea of her being impregnated with his young.

Rarev is a Lionus Monstrum, and when the two of them find themselves on a mission to Rigellen Five, they find themselves entered in to several trials so that they can mine rare minerals essential and needed by the kindred.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

I loved reading this book. It has two beings from different worlds coming together to save Earth, literally. The chemistry between Emilia and Rarev is explosive, and Rarev is wonderfully sweet and protective of feisty Emilia. There’s action, trials, steamy scenes and a happily ever after ending.

Emilia is a minister and since is was leaked that she pushed the vote for the new monstrum kindred males to call brides, she’s been verbally attacked. Now Rarev has turned up at her flat letting her know about the yillium shortage. When protesters manage to get into her back garden, Rarev rescues her and takes her into space. There the darklings attack Earth, however the kindred have used the last of their yillium and it’s up to Emilia and Rarev to go and secure more. When they try to secure mining rights however they are told they must pass the three trials set out. They must pretend to be mates, but what starts as pretend soon turns into love and they bond by accident. Back on the mother ship, Rarev asks for the bond to be broken only for their goddess to appear and give him some much needed advice. He must proclaim his love and their bond in front of the human press if they ever wish for the monstrum kindred to have brides of their own.

If you have ever read a story from Evangeline Anderson you would know that some of the backstories our heroines come from are horrible. Minister Emilia Oxley is no exception. Christmas is supposed to be the most cherished time of the year, full of joy and love. Unfortunately all Emilia received for Christmas was a cheating husband, menopause and mob of angry people outside her door.
The Monstrum Kindred are new blood for our addiction, and do they feed it! They are fierce and cuddly in one, not to mention damn sexy. That is the description for our latest leading man, Chief Comannder Rarvev, leader of the Monstrum Kindred. The only negative we can assign to this Kindred is his vow never to take a mate, but we also know what the Goddess believes too...
Its up to Rarev and Emilia to save Earth against the truly sickening Darklings, and to do so is going to take these two individuals into situations they both believed would never happen. Yillium is the only mineral that can kill Darklings and the only place that it can be won by competing in the Rigellen Trials. Its time to find out if the heat and chemistry this pair display can become hot enough to win the trials.

In this installment of the Kindred Tales, we get to read about another Monstrum Kindred. Rarev has sworn to never take a bride, but he wasn]t anticipating having such an intense attraction to Emilia Oxley. After an attack on Earth, Emilia and Rarev have to work together to save the planet. As with all Kindred Warriors, Rarev is protective of Emilia and looks out for her when they have to travel to another planet to help save Earth by getting a rare mineral. She finds she is not used to having a man speak tenderly to her as her ex husband was less than kind, but there is an attraction there for Emilia as well. She is never intimated by his different looks, and after a little time comes to love those things about him as well as how he always respects and treats her. I think that's really what I really love about these books, how much the Kindred care for their loved ones. It gives you the warm fuzzies, and the romance is the hot bonfire!

This is the best time to jump into this series if you haven’t been following Evangeline Anderson already. Although this is book 40 in the series the author has introduced a new type of Kindred called Monstrum and this is still very early on in the development.

I really enjoyed the journey between Minister Emilia Oxley and Chief Commander Rarev. They are both brave, self-sacrificing, and loyal servants to their people. Their willingness to sacrifice themselves and make the best decisions for their constituents is what brings them together.

Loved by the Lion has a lot of smoldering suspense that leads to burning desire between Emilia and Rarev. The Kindred type may be different, but the Monstrum have all the protective instincts of the original Kindred. This protective streak added to a very interesting story with creative and imaginative characters.

I received this ARC for an honest review.

Loved by the Lion

This story was amazing. I just love this author's imagination. Her character descriptions are so detailed you can see what she is describing. Commander Rarev, a Monstrum Kindred who looks like a lion, arrives in England to inform Minister Emilia Oxley that they are running out of Yillium. Yillium is used to defeat the Darklings who are trying to invade earth, and he finds her under attack by human men who are angry over the Monstrum men calling brides, so he decides to take her away in his ship to escape the angry mob invading her house. Soon enough they are under attack by the Darklings as they are entering space, and they have now used up their remaining supply of Yillium. Now Rarev must take Emilia Oxley with him to Rigellen Five to secure mining rights to Yillium. Unbeknownst to them the trials they have to win is something out of Emilia's comfort zone. Wow, Loved it.

'Loved By The Lion' is Evangeline Anderson's latest addition to the 'Kindred Tales' series. It's hard to believe that this book is the fortieth in the series! In this book of hers, she introduces a new type of Kindred, the Monstrum Kindred. Having met them briefly in a previous work where they fight to protect their home planet against the Darklings, this book offers more to that saga in the form of Chief Commander Rarev, one of their own. We also get to see the supremely interesting Minister Emilia Oxley, who has not one, not two, but three huge crises to deal with, that too around Christmas time. She discovers that her husband is cheating on her, a furious mob is baying for blood outside her residence, and on top of all these, she is also just entering the Menopause phase in her life. for full review click here

Loved By The Lion: KIndred Tales 40 - Evangeline Anderson

All the books in the Kindred Tales are awesome but the new Kindred Monstrum storyline is absolutely tantalizing and yummy including some swooning.
Loved the commanding Rarev , lion features and all. Talk about alpha. He instantly is drawn to Emilia.
Emilia is an older elite and it is awesome that she has this hot Kindred attracted to her. The two have to go to Rigellan and deal with the “unusual” inhabitants of this planet and their XXX trials in order to win the right to mine the ore they need to combat the latest threat to earth.
The world building is mesmerizing and the character building is great, several secondary characters on the mothership also make appearances which is always fun. A great romantic, page turning , fun,🔥🔥🔥🔥read that takes readers out of this world and of course a well earned HEA.

Liked this one, it was nice to read a kindred book with a slight shifter twist and I loved Rarev, he was awesome. I know that the kindred are normally big and strong etc etc, but to have the lion traits added was another added extra and I enjoy shifter stories, so for me this was a bonus.
I also enjoyed the dynamic between Emilia and Rarev, you could tell from the beginning that they chemistry was there and the story just worked, also I liked that it didn't take 16 hours to read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and cannot wait for the next in the series, hoping that there are more potential part shifter/kindred on there way.
I would definitely recommend this book as a standalone, however, I would also recommend reading the whole series to gain a better understanding for the kindred family.

>Book Review – Loved by the Lion

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Monstrum Kindred series and ends in an HEA. Emilia is an older character going through menopause. The commander of the Monstrum Kindred, Commandeer Rarev, thinks Emilia is perfect for him. Emilia wastes a lot of time thinking she is too old for Rarev.

>To defeat the evil threat, Rarev and Emilia travel to a planet pretending to be a couple in order to get some special mineral used to defeat the threat. Of course, the beings on the planet require proof that Rarev and Emilia are truly a couple. The other couples on the planet are very erotic and interesting.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. This book dives a lot more into human/animalistic-human relationships.

I love the new kindred and am so glad they get their first story. We’ve met Rarev in a previous book when the Monstrum Kindred saved Earth from a new terrifying threat. But some humans, mostly men, see them as only animals because they have a more animal appearance then the other Kindred. But they are definitely Kindred. Big in all ways they would do anything to protect a female. For Rarev he wants to help protect Earth and will need the help of Emilia who is a Minister of the World Council. They both learn that they may have underestimated what they will have to do. The story is filled with adventure and lots of romance as the tension between these two only increases.

Bring on the Monstrum Kindred. Who wouldn't want to cuddle with their very own lion? That's just what Minister Emilia Oxley gets in Commander Rarev when they have to travel to another planet and act as a mated pair to earn mining rites which will help the Kindred protect the earth. Both have reasons to fight their attraction, but fate may just win out and bring these two together. Great new characters and an exciting new race of Kindred from another dimension. I loved this first full installment to the Monstrum Kindred! It not only starts us off with the first of many new breeds of Kindred characters, but new planets and new inhabitants to learn about, too. I’d like to learn more about Rigellen Five. The Rigellens we’re a very neat new species to add to the Kindred world. Super creative. Speaking of new species, Commander Rarev and his lion like characteristics sounds absolutely purrfect!! So sexy!! I can see why Em let go and let him in. If the rest are even half as potent, we’re in for one heck of a ride.

This story was full of cheer moments, when such lovely things happen or a delightful character introduced. The Rigellan Minister and his wife started the ball rolling. The Yonnie Mistress and her histrionics received her due reward. But I absolutely loved the way that the relationship between Rarev and Em grew and blossomed. It is sad to say that older women can have a distorted view of themselves due to stereotypes. To see the effect of the Trials on her was a delight. Definitely one to recommend.

Wow

Loved this book. It made me laugh, it made me go ewww, it made me swoon, all kinds of feels in this book. Rarev and Emelia are off to the planet Rigellan to try to get a mining contract Earth has to have, or Earth will be defeated by its enemy. What a trip! Rigellan and its people are a hoot! And the other contenders for the mining contract, well, therein lies the ewww factor. Mostly I just smiled and shook my head. But I am so happy I read this book. I have never read anything like it.

Rarev and Emilia are such a beautiful couple! You wrote Emilia, as a British citizen, very well, IMHO. The character was absolutely brilliant older woman, strong-minded, and very admirable and brave. Rarev is an awesome character, brave, devoted, and chivalrous, like all of the Kindred men!

Sometimes, when reading these novels, I forget they are describing fictional men and believe the character are real. More like wishing they are real. These characters are what I wish all human people were really like.

Monstrous Warrior and Human Woman!

A kindred warrior that looks kind of like a lion and is the head of his people. A human woman who is on the World Council. She helps to pass a bill allowing his kind to call human brides. Unfortunately some people on Earth are upset and angry about it. They are calling her all kinds of names and protesting outside of her home and breaking into her property. You will have to read the book to find out what all happens to both the kindred warrior and the human woman.

er, very annoyingly written

This was not written well and was so unrealistic for a Prime Minister to be so undecided and unsure of herself all the time. The “er” after every sentence was annoying and took away from the story. There was no real character development, the chemistry wasn’t always believable between the characters, and the author didn’t seem to know much about Margaret Thatcher. I would suggest before making comparison to a historical figure, that more research be done by the author.

Loved by the Lion

I wanted to love this book and I enjoyed the beginning, but when they had to go to this other universe is when it went downhill for me. The “trials” that they had to do in order to obtain the mineral rights was okay, but it was the other couples that also wanting the rights that were outlandish. And that is putting mildly. I will leave it at that and let you decide for yourself.
The other thing that was over used by the FMC was the term “er”. I live with a British person and never have I heard this term used. It just got to be too much.

This author has such a cruisy way of writing, just relax and settle in for a ride. We once again meet the Monstrum Kindred, a rather furry one. Combined with a 'stiff upper lip' mature British woman, could their connection possibly work? Thrown together to save the world, they are in for the adventure of their lives.
I love the planets, the creatures, the customs and the food this author creates in her worlds.
This is such a fun story, I highly recommend it.

I loved the strength and courage that Emilia showed. I loved that she was willing to do anything to protect her people and that Rarev loved her so deeply and could not understand why Emilia would feel that she was not worthy of his attentions. There was all the action and adventure that are hallmarks of Ms. Anderson’s stories. I really enjoyed it.
