It's been over 20 years but now he's back. . . just in time for Christmas
Amber’s fab at almost forty. She has the perfect family life including cheeky beagle Olive, much to the annoyance of nosey, school mum, Jayne. But appearances can be deceptive and when an old flame unexpectantly comes back into her life, it brings back all the feels.
Delilah’s an aspiring dancer, she’s completed dance school and now what? After a few failed dance auditions, she’s tempted to try riskier means to make ends meet. Anything would be better than working for mega micro manager, Miriam and her need to say that everything is fandabedose.
A frightening event throws Amber and Delilah together, making them both re-evaluate their lives. Is Amber truly happy in her seemingly perfect home with her perfectionist husband? Can Delilah overcome her anxiety and all the uncertainty that comes with being in your twenties? Is the grass always greener or merely just a different shade?
Can puppy love last the test of time?
A witty and heart-warming story about self-acceptance, love and having the courage to live your best life.
Fans of Dawn O'Porter, Marian Keyes and Mhari McFarlane will love this humorous and poignant story.
Belle Henderson is a lover of books, big hair and training her beagle not to eat all her furniture and possessions. She lives in sunny Swindon, UK with her family and said naughty beagle.
Belle co-wrote her first romantic comedy in 2019 whilst on maternity leave. In 2020 she was made redundant and in-between parenting and tearing her hair out, she has created another five stand-alone chick lit books, all set in the fictional seaside location of Coolsbay, based in the South-West of England.
People’s idiosyncrasies fascinate and occasionally amuse Belle. She loves to home in on these quirks which subsequently help to breathe life into her characters.
Belle’s books are quirky, romantic, laugh out loud and always a little toe-curling.
I loved this book, it’s well-written and all of the characters are well-rounded and totally believable with a story that wasn’t at all predictable. And although I love all of Belle’s books, this is my favourite. There are some real laugh-out-loud moments that still make me laugh when I think about them now but also in places it’s quite profound, especially the bit about wishing stuff away. It’s warm and real and funny and I’ve decided I want to move to Coolsbay. And get a dog. Highly recommended.
This is a quick cute read. I found it hard to relate to the characters besides their love of dogs. I did find it adorable how the two women were connected. Tbh, I kind of wished chapter 28 was the last ending because it felt perfect to me and then it had to keep going 🥺 ⭐️ 3.5 💧8
This is a brilliant novel for romance and dog lovers.
The two perspectives of women at different stages of their lives are both very likeable and their character growth is fabulous.
Olive the dog is incredible. She's the best friend we all need and is quite possibly the star of the whole book. I don't want to give any spoilers so all I'll say is: I thoroughly enjoyed her antics at the dinner party and errmm, the "knicker incident."
There's some relatable playground drama, I think we all know a Jayne, and all the extra characters are fleshed out and believable.
I was sad when it was over, and glad the author has included some jumps into the future to show how things worked out.
I highly recommend this book. It will make you smile.
A crafty canine rom-com with a dual POV that marries up for the ahhhh moment. Amber was funny and sweet and some very LOL moments with her and Filipe (grrr he was a pain, every time he said 'churri' I felt a twinge of hate lol). I loved the doggy antics; Olive the beagle was one smart dog. She seemed to know exactly what was going on even if no one else had a clue. A satisfying read with some crazy moments and quirky characters, another fun book by Belle!
What a delightful and heart warming tale. A story of friendships and families, a tale of first loves and new loves. A story of mischievous canines and cheeky infants stealing your heart away. With memorable characters some you will love and some you may simply love to hate. Well worth checking out.
Thank you to the author for putting this up for a special promo during the Indie Author Winter Wonderland Event.
I’ve read all of Belle’s books, but this one is my favourite. It’s told from two viewpoints, which I really enjoyed, and the fact that they’re both women makes a nice change from m/f viewpoints. It’s laugh out loud funny in places yet really deep in others, making it both humorous and poignant. Well written, a different kind of story and yet romantic too. Thoroughly recommend this five star read.
Is it acceptable to hug a book once you've finished it?
Amber lives what appears like a great life. Stay at home mum, lovely daughter, cute dog and a happy marriage. But is that really how it is? I hated Amber's husband and I was getting worried she wasn't going to realise that although he did have his nice moments, it also bordered a somewhat emotionally abusive relationship. When Mr Thomas was on the scene, I was super hopeful! I enjoyed their little back story too and the occasional flashback.
Deliah is young and a bit confused. What does she want from life? I took a bit longer to warm up to Deliah, although did find some things about her quite relatable. I loved her brother and overtime, I really started to like her and want to get to know her more.
Eventually, through a very scary event that had me biting me nails, Amber and Deliah are thrown together and find they have some connections already.
This book shows the importance of finding yourself, regardless of age. Acceptance, forgiveness and all that stuff. It has characters who you will love, some who will annoy you but may redeem themselves and some characters who absolutely won't redeem themselves at all! But hey, that's just life, right?
I love Belle's books, perfect cosy sit down with a cuppa and have a little smile books!
