Charles "Chuck" Dixon is an American comic book writer, perhaps best-known for long runs on Batman titles in the 1990s.

His earliest comics work was writing Evangeline first for Comico Comics in 1984 (then later for First Comics, who published the on-going series), on which he worked with his then-wife, the artist Judith Hunt. His big break came one year later, when editor Larry Hama hired him to write back-up stories for Marvel Comics' The Savage Sword of Conan.

In 1986, he began working for Eclipse Comics, writing Airboy with artist Tim Truman. Continuing to write for both Marvel and (mainly) Eclipse on these titles, as well as launching Strike! with artist Tom Lyle in August 1987 and Valkyrie with artist Paul Gulacy in October 1987, he began work on Carl Potts' Alien Legion series for Marvel's Epic Comics imprint, under editor Archie Goodwin. He also produced a three-issue adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit for Eclipse with artist David Wenzel between 1989 and 1990, and began writing Marc Spector: Moon Knight in June 1989.

His Punisher OGN Kingdom Gone (August, 1990) led to him working on the monthly The Punisher War Journal (and later, more monthly and occasional Punisher titles), and also brought him to the attention of DC Comics editor Denny O'Neil, who asked him to produce a Robin mini-series. The mini proved popular enough to spawn two sequels - The Joker's Wild (1991) and Cry of the Huntress (1992) - which led to both an ongoing monthly series (which Dixon wrote for 100 issues before leaving to work with CrossGen Comics), and to Dixon working on Detective Comics from #644-738 through the major Batman stories KnightFall & KnightsEnd (for which he helped create the key character of Bane), DC One Million , Contagion , Legacy , Cataclysm and No Man's Land . Much of his run was illustrated by Graham Nolan.

He was DC's most prolific Batman-writer in the mid-1990s (rivalled perhaps in history by Bill Finger and Dennis O'Neil) - in addition to writing Detective Comics he pioneered the individual series for Robin , Nightwing (which he wrote for 70 issues, and returned to briefly with 2005's #101) and Batgirl , as well as creating the team and book Birds of Prey .

While writing multiple Punisher and Batman comics (and October 1994's Punisher/Batman crossover), he also found time to launch Team 7 for Jim Lee's WildStorm/Image and Prophet for Rob Liefeld's Extreme Studios. He also wrote many issues of Catwoman and Green Arrow , regularly having about seven titles out each and every month between the years 1993 and 1998.

In March, 2002, Dixon turned his attention to CrossGen's output, salthough he co-wrote with Scott Beatty the origin of Barbara Gordon's Batgirl in 2003's Batgirl: Year One. For CrossGen he took over some of the comics of the out-going Mark Waid, taking over Sigil from #21, and Crux with #13. He launched Way of the Rat in June 2002, Brath (March '03), The Silken Ghost (June '03) and the pirate comic El Cazador (Oct '03), as well as editing Robert Rodi's non-Sigilverse The Crossovers. He also wrote the Ruse spin-off Archard's Agents one-shots in January and November '03 and April '04, the last released shortly before CrossGen's complete collapse forced the cancellation of all of its comics, before which Dixon wrote a single issue of Sojourn (May '04). Dixon's Way of the Rat #24, Brath #14 and El Cazador #6 were among the last comics released from the then-bankrupt publisher.

On June 10, 2008, Dixon announced on his forum that he was no longer "employed by DC Comics in any capacity."

Another great book in the series.

A group of sadistic criminals are tracking down a fortune stolen by a Bernie Madoff type. They invade the man's houses, torturing and killing any inhabitants they find, for information, and because they like it.

Their trail leads to the small Maine town where Levon Cade is hiding...

Great cold weather action. i felt cold in the middle of June. All the villains get a proper comeuppance, and once it starts, the action never lets up.

This has the hallmarks of a truly great series.

Entertaining and well told, although a bit convenient to have the bad guys drop right in Levon's lap. This time around Levon has moved with his little daughter to a Maine resort lake as winter sets in. Its part procedural in how to disappear and part Die Hard as bad guys hunt down a crooked tycoon's ill gotten gains from Costa Rica around the world. It starts a bit slow setting things up but has an incredibly rewarding and satisfying third act.

Setup went on a little too long, but then the action action action and violence violence violence more than made up for it. This is a great, short novel that delivers the goods. It’s a Reacher novel without all that unnecessary “mystery” stuff.

If your any kind of action/thriller fan then these 3 books should be in your library.

This review will cover all three of the current books. I read them all in the space of two days, they were that good so, I thought I would combine them.

The series stars with Levon's Trade.

Levon is struggling to leave his previous life behind and be a normal citizen and loving father, something he'd been unable to do during his life in counter-terrorism. There are forces at work, both internal and external, that want to make sure that doesn't happen. They see him as the cause of misery and are willing to use any means to make sure that he can't cause anymore.

Levon is working as a security guard for a construction company. We learn almost from the opening pages that Levon is not a man you want to threaten as a few unfortunate thugs find out the hard way.

Levon is unexpectedly approached to help find a missing girl. It's a life he's left behind and wastes no time making that fact clear but as happens Levon's past comes back to haunt him and he learns that a costly legal battle is coming.

Levon has no options left. To save the single most important thing in his life he will have to revive the skills that made him a legend.

The hunt turns to the drug trade as often happens in cases like this and Levon's not one to back down when he's on the hunt but he may regret the trees he shakes this time, if he lives to have any regrets that is.

I was sucked in and couldn't put this book down. There is plenty of action with some great characters. I'm not sure what more I can say but to say that I bought the next two as soon as I finished this book. I had to know what was going to happen.

The second book in the series is Levon's Night.

Levon's in hiding. Fearing retribution for his actions to find a missing girl he grabbed everything that was important to him and decided to start a new life with a new name and a new job.

It seem that no matter how far or how hard you try to hide bad things seem to find you. This time Levon isn't the target, not at first that is. There is a hunt for a stolen treasure worth millions of dollars and with that kind of money there those out there that will do anything to find it especially when a team of killers is hired to locate the treasure. The horrific means that these animals will go to for information has law enforcement across the globe looking for them.

Each location they've visited is littered with blood and bodies and as they track down one lead after another the body count mounts, women, children, nothing matter except the treasure. Their hunt brings them to Levon's remote hiding spot. The small community is about to be visited by these harbingers of death. They soon realize that their intel failed to alert them to a deadly threat. It's by chance that Levon is missed in the initial assault and while the hunters know he's out there, they have no idea that the man they missed isn't some hick but a force like they've never faced before. Missing Levon and once again putting threatening all that he loves ensures that Levon will hunt the hunters. His goal? Kill them all.

The first book was great. This one was awesome. The brutality of the bad guys had my blood boiling. You can't help being engrossed in the story and urging Levon on. You will want these animals to pay and pay dearly for what they've done.

The third book is a short story and is meant as a filler as we wait for the next full release but that doesn't make it any less of a worthy read.

Levon's on the road again. Looking to put as much distance between himself and the carnage he left behind in the frozen north the last thing he's expecting is car thieves.

They take the wrong car or more importantly they steal a car that has something in it that Levon is not willing to leave behind.

There is a prayer that could be appropriate in this case, "Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do." but that would imply mercy but in Levon's world mercy is a rare gift and he's not if the gift giving mood.

What this lacks in length makes up for in full unabashed action and destruction. What irritated me more than anything is that I now have to wait for more.

Cade is back. After the events of the last novel Levon Cade just wants to live in quiet obscurity. But when trouble comes calling he is ready with an answer.

This is a taught, faced paced, enjoyable story. Dixon continues to grow his character. Levon is an old fashioned hero who does the right thing and doesn't have a lot of second thoughts about taking out the bad guys. This is good old fashioned paperback action writing at its best. Do yourself s favor and get a copy of this book.

Another well written thriller from Chuck Dixon. Short, quick read with almost no wasted verbiage. One of those novels I call a 'no brainer'. No heavy thinking involved in this book. Just sit back and enjoy what Dixon has come up with for Levon Cade's newest adventure.

Chuck Dixon – Levon Cade Bk 2 – Levon’s Night – Reviewed 2/12/22 – Read 2/9/22

Levon and his daughter Merry were still hiding when their world exploded on them in a snowstorm.

Having left his profession behind, Levon tried to calm his life down by taking a night watchman job for a construction company. After rescuing the owner's daughter from a vicious criminal conspiracy group, that is now out to kill him, Levon and his daughter have taken on a new life in hiding. Unknown to them, the place they chose to begin that new life was about to explode with a new gang of even more vicious men, searching for something worth billions to them. Merry just happened to be spending the night with her friend when the attack went down. She heads for her father on her skis by slipping out of the house unseen, clad only in pajamas, and the story begins.

Join Levon and Merry as they search for each other in a blinding snowstorm…

What did I like? Well, the previous book, Levon’s Trade, was exciting and breathtaking, but Chuck outdid himself with this one. I was impressed with the attention to detail as Chuck wove this fantastic storyline. Superb!

What will you like? Holy mercy, this book is exciting, explosive, electrifying, breathtaking, thrilling, and every other descriptive adjective out there. Chuck’s given us one heck of a book that will make you hold your breath to get through it. The detailed descriptions paint the most amazing night in this blizzard that you can imagine, and then the storyline will blindside you with the fantastic events as they unfold. Prepare yourself for the next book in the Levon Cade series as Chuck Dixon gives us “Levon’s Night” available NOW!

Levon’s Night is a bit of a letdown after the gritty, fast-paced thrill of Levon’s Trade. Chuck Dixon’s second installment in the series takes a slower approach, but unfortunately, that slower pace hampers the novel’s overall momentum. By the time the action kicks in, it feels like it’s too late to redeem what starts as a dragging plot.

In Levon’s Night, Levon Cade finds himself back in the dangerous underworld, this time embroiled in a complex plot involving a corrupt small-town political machine. The story kicks off with Cade working menial jobs while trying to keep his head down, but trouble inevitably finds him. As the political stakes rise and violence brews, Levon is forced to defend himself and the people he’s come to care about, bringing him face-to-face with some powerful enemies. However, unlike the tightly wound action of the first book, the narrative spends too much time on setup, making the early chapters feel unnecessarily slow.

The lack of the gripping, nonstop action that defined Levon’s Trade is noticeable, and the depth in Levon’s character from Book 1 feels muted in this sequel. The absence of Gunny Leffertz’s wisdom, particularly quotes like “Not every man has a price. Only all men have something to trade. Most times pride is the last thing on the table,” removes a philosophical edge that gave the first book added layers.

The action does eventually pick up, but by then, it’s hard to be fully invested. The high stakes feel diluted, and while the climax is serviceable, it doesn’t quite pack the punch that would make up for the slow start. Fans of Levon Cade’s brutal efficiency may still enjoy the latter half of the book, but overall, Levon’s Night struggles to meet the high expectations set by the prior book.

Levon Tried to Be Peaceful but Somebody Needed Their Head Stomped.

A few days from Christmas, Levon Cade and his daughter, Merry, move from Lake Bellevue, Washington, to Upstate Maine, where his ugly memories keep him from sleeping at night.

Dominican FBI Agent Bill Marquez is sent from LA to Costa Rica to cross some T's and dot some I's in the death of fraud investor Corey Blanco and his family ... but the massacre he comes upon inflames his heart to seek justice.

'Micksican' agent Nancy Vargas, reeling from her husband running off, loses many hours of sleep hounding over multiple home-invasion cases that have a connection in her and Marquez' minds but their respective agencies aren't biting.

Mitch and daughter Moira Roeder are as new to Maine's Mohawk road as Lee Tessler is. Mitch is renovating a client's house and Lee is using the unoccupied Moulson house for work. With Mitch and Lee attracted to some degree, neither are who they say they are, but being a two-faced villain is more than an Arkham monthly serial read.

Maine will have its own version of a 'Die Hard' New Year when Belgian terrorists come to town.

"Levon's Night", second in the Levon Cade series, takes a distinctly different turn.
In the first book Levon sought out trouble, this time it comes to him.
He and his daughter Merry are off the grid in Maine, using assumed names.
For a long time the connection between Levon and a series of brutal murders in far away places makes no sense at all.
And then, one night, all hell breaks loose in his immediate vicinity as a highly organised criminal group unleash over the top mayhem, placing his daughter in danger.
They are on the trail of a huge fortune stolen by a Ponzi fraudster.
Now they are in Levon's sights and their hours are numbered.
It doesn't quite work - it's a solid read but it never really ignites.
3 Stars.

Not as good as the first book, but still a good pulp thriller. Levon Cade is an excellent character and I love the way Dixon slowly peels back the layers on him. Also like the fact that he's got a daughter. The plot on this one is pretty simple - wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time - but it works well enough. Only drawback here are the villains. They just aren't that formidable and you can't picture Cade having much trouble with them. I'm hoping that the bad-guy's get a bit better as the series goes on. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Levon's direct continuation Trades the archetypal redemptive man on a mission narrative successfully utilised by the OG for a Die Hard at a snowy lakeside retreat focus and I am here for it wholesale.

Clancy-esque tactical knowledge meets Patterson-ish page-turning storytelling. You had me at Levon.

These books remind me of a cross between the Executioner, Jack Reacher and the Punisher. I love the story. I like Levon Cade and how he really is trying to look out for his family. The action is top notch. I would have liked a little more follow up with the government agents. He is allowed to slide under the radar a little too much. Good book.

Couldn't put it down!

Levon just can't seem to catch a break! When he isn't roughing up drug dealers he's fending off sadistic home invaders!

Once again the writing is excellent, the action tight, and the setting believable. I can't wait to read the next one!

Decent enough book. I enjoyed how Levon just found himself in the wrong place at the right time; however, it seemed rather contrived. I wish he could have been lured into the intrigue with a little more finesse. Other than that, when it all kicks off, it really kicks off. Good action and suspense.

DIXON’S THE MAN!!!

Truly enjoy action hero Levon! CD’s writing is very present…believable! LC doesn’t try to take down the evil terrorists trying to blow up the major US cities. The plot unwinds close and personal. Like I said …believable! Thank you, CD.

Not enough Levon in this one. I feel this would’ve been better with more fleshed out story. His lack of remorse is what makes these books so good. The ending really saved this one. Will continue this journey.
