Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.
She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

I stopped at page 59 because I couldn’t read anymore. This book is boring and confusing. Considering this is volume one, I should be getting to know the characters and the world they are in, starting on whatever adventure they’re supposed to be going on. But instead it’s a ton of words about nothing and I feel like I’ve been dropped in the middle of the story rather than starting it.
The prologue was such a missed opportunity. Instead of focusing on the incident that brought him into his power and got him started as a sage, it focuses instead on Alec becoming a were. This doesn’t provide background nor benefit the story and could have so easily been explained in the beginning of chapter 1, which takes place five years later.
We go from the prologue where Alec has just been bitten, 100% human and having no knowledge of the magical world, to chapter 1 and he is married to the sister in a magical family and thinking about kids. Allin, the main character, has a boyfriend and they have been together for years, there’s no backstory, no in between story, no progress of relationships, no real introduction of characters, other than names and ages, no description of the characters, or environment, just a bunch of words on a bunch of pages with no flow, insight or structure.
Because the relationship between Emery and Allin is already established in chapter 1, they are already “in love” and how they came to be is just explained rather than us going along in their journey, when Allin is betrayed within the first 40 pages, you are not invested enough in either character or their relationship to even care and the writer doesn’t encompass the emotion well enough for me to be drawn into the sense of betrayal or loss.
I don’t even think I’m gonna make it to page 100 in this book, let alone finish volume one and want to read volume two.
Just a heads up, this book has multiple points of view, not just two. I love a story where I get to read the pov of the two main characters, but having the points of view of people who are new characters and I have no idea where they fit within the story is highly confusing.
MM romance and paranormal action. Lots of fighting evil monsters, and lots of family squabbles. Typos: the author constantly mistakes or uses the wrong tense for the verbs lay and lie. Commas are sometimes used for periods, creating run-on sentences. Some stray commas (e.g., "the werewolf kid, put his hand"). "Admirable" is spelled "admiral," "every day" and "come back" written as two words when they should be one in the sense in which they are used. "Crossover" is written as one word when it should be two in the sense in which it is used. "Roll" used for "role." Mack truck" is spelled "Mac."
This is the first time I've read a paranormal series based on witches, it left me speechless. The way michele writes makes you fully see what they see and feel all that they feel I've never been so engrossed (well other than some of her other work) You will fall in complete love with all the ellwood's and the rest of the characters. I can't wait to jump into the next lot of books I love the added bonus scenes and books in this set.
I've already read and reviewed all these books, but since I purchased this boxed set, I suppose I didn't technically review this version. And normally that wouldn't matter...BUT this is my favorite series ever (well including Brinnswick Chronicles too) so I want to do these characters and author justice with as many 5 stars as possible. If you haven't tried this series yet, please do. It's Phenomenal.
