A new Ethiopian and African superhero from Etan Comics -- here for it!

Zufan, in contrast to Jember and Hawi (the other superhero stories), feels like a true pan-African superhero and story. This first volume already sets up the rest well with a solid foundation that combines elements of history, sci-fi, and speculative fiction.

The art and creative development are commendable, and Zufan as a character is already shaping up to be fierce. The foreshadowing in this volume leads me to believe there's some serious tension/conflict with dangerous consequences to our heroine; while I'm not excited about that, I'm looking forward to seeing how Etan Comics will handle it.

Once again, congrats to the team on yet another great offering!

This is a futuristic, interplanetary analogy of the true story of Italy's invasion of Ethiopia in the 1800s. The art is great, and the story is interesting. This is just the first book so the story is incomplete, but at the end of the book, Debebe tells a little bit about the history that inspired this book. He shows the roots of colonialism and how it got a foothold in Africa by using the invasion of Earth by extraterrestrials. I'm not familiar with this history, so I'm looking forward to the next book to see how the story unfolds.

The occupation of Ethiopia by Italian forces in the 1800s is a story rich with lessons we can learn. Zufan seeks to combine this unstable part of history with a futuristic sci-fi setting, and discussing contemporary fears regarding climate change and the (unfortunately still present) xenophobia and racism; the treatment of these themes is masterful. Plus the art is truly beautiful. Well done all involved.
