For over 20 years, Author Mindy Cockeram has taught women and their partners how to get the best possible labor. She is certified through Lamaze International and is also a Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
A Reader's review says it better than we could: "This is my 4th pregnancy, and I thought I had read every book out there on labor and delivery. Well, I was wrong, and this is the BEST book I’ve read about concrete, practical, evidence-based techniques to shorten labor. This is not a book about positive birth affirmations (though I love those too); this is a book that gives you tips and strategies that I wish I had known with my previous deliveries. It’s a quick read and will leave you feeling more confident and prepared. Buy it!"
Mindy Cockeram has been educating women and their partners about Childbirth and Breastfeeding since 2005. She certified through the University of Bedfordshire studying Antenatal Education in conjunction with the National Childbirth Trust's (NCT) Teacher Training College in London.
On the way to teach a childbirth class one evening in Wandsworth, South West London, she stumbled upon a woman in labor in the parking lot and 'caught' the baby before the ambulance arrived. "I knew there was a reason for that coincidence and that I was in the right line of work" she said in an interview with London's ITV.
After 20 years in the UK, Mindy and her family relocated to Southern California in 2010 where she certified with Lamaze International. She now writes for several online publications and teaches childbirth education and breastfeeding both privately and for a large hospital organization several times a week. Her first book Cut Your Labor In Half: 19 Secrets To a Faster & Easier Birth was published in November of 2017. Breastfeeding Doesn't Have to Suck: Tips, Tricks & Knowledge for a Great Experience was released in September, 2019. She is currently writing a 3rd book for 2nd or subsequent pregnancies.
I took a couple of classes with Mindy and read this book alongside the labor and delivery class. Not only is she incredibly smart, but she is a genuinely fun, encouraging and supportive person. My labor and delivery was beautiful. The best day of my life! And I was so prepared going into it because of this book and her class. 10/10 recommend this read to all soon to be parents!
This book was fantastic. There is so much great information in this book I know it will help me feel empowered in my birth. I can’t wait to take what I’ve learned and apply it to my labor and delivery. Highly recommend to everyone who is expecting!
This was a concise and informative book! It was a little inconsistent from an editing standpoint with measurements, dates, times, and spacing, which was a little distracting, but the content was very good.
Highly highly recommend!! Writing this review before labor and delivery, but this was so helpful for me. I'd say I started with a decent knowledge about labor and delivery, but she taught me so much and broke down each part so well. It took away a lot of fear of the unknown of childbirth and gave really good and practical knowledge of how to help and advocate for yourself. It's definitely geared towards a hospital birth, but still has a ton of helpful knowledge for birth in all locations. Great information for both medicated and unmedicated births. She labeled certain chapters as "birth partner chapters", which are ones that are important for a partner to read. I had my husband read those, and it was very helpful for us.
