A ruthless king dragged me into the vampire world kicking and screaming, intending to kill me, like he had so many before. Then I took everything away from him.
His throne is mine.
His kingdom is mine.
I wear the crown of the vampire queen, and to some, it seems all my dreams came true. But victory came at a terrible cost. My mate is far beyond my reach, and trying to save him would risk a bloody battle and the lives too many innocents.
But when an ancient evil rises, the only way to survive is with Deston by my side, which means I'll fight to get him back.
If war is coming, it might as well be on my terms.
Fueled by black coffee, ice cream and bad nineties music, L.A. McGinnis spends her days writing best-selling steamy fantasies filled with damaged heroes who long to be whole and smart, authentic heroines. A life-long fascination with storytelling inspired her to weave these contemporary tales of legendary fated mates where the princess never needs rescuing, but sometimes the hero does.
This third installment had so much going on!! I loved it! So many dumpster fires, and plots, and hidden info! Plus it was steamy, and sweet! I loved the intrigue, romance, and characters! Team Deston all the way, even with all his crazy secrets!!
The third installment of L.A. McGinnis's Darkfell Vampire Clan has Serafina reluctantly on the throne, her mate in the hands of the evil Katarina and her two lovers trying to keep her alive. Typical day in the life of..... McGinnis continues to build this story with great characters, a dynamic plot, wonderful world building and a few OMG moments. Just when you take a breath of relief, you turn the page and something else will spike the adrenaline in your system. Can't wait to see what happens in book 4. McGinnis has become one of my definite "go to" authors.
** Cliffhanger-ish Warning!** Holy bats and cats! I love this book! It's another installment in the Darkfell Vampires series. This is an amazing, fantasy, reverse harem romance with vampires who have magic. There's plenty of fast-paced action, thrilling suspense, breath-taking battles, steamy scenes, and an evil villain or three.
Seraphina continues to struggle with being a queen. She’s a bit less angsty, especially after a certain someone returns to her. I like how each time she defeats a villain, it's like a bigger one pops up. I keep thinking of a little shark (Viktor) getting eaten by a Great White (Katarina), then that is replaced by a Megalodon (Caine). I’m still not sure about Deston, but he’s grown on me. Seraphina’s other men, Luthor and Cyrus, continue to argue with each other. Even though it seems to be resolved by the end of this book, I wonder how the harem is going to work in the future.
Having said that, the relationships and the dynamics between the main characters lends a dose of reality that I haven’t seen in a lot of RH stories. Even friends are going to have some difficulties learning to be in a group relationship.
I'm not sure how Seraphina and her men are going to deal with Caine in the next book(s), but I am excited to read it.
That was a huge twist there! Although for a while at the end I could see they were leading it to be the two were related, because he appeared as him in the dungeons, it was just too much a coincidence. I’m wondering if Caine might have a mate bond with her too and what sacrifice Deston/Abel made for his ressurrection besides his power matching hers and the soul bond, although if that was one of the consequences then why would he think he was able to get rid of the soul bond or that she’d get rid of it. Also I’m wondering if the good part of Caine that she “killed” can be brought back or if she really did or didn’t kill the good part but rather the bad part and Abel is just trying to make her believe she killed the wrong part. I really feel like there must be a mate bond there too because he is protective of her and not killing her but also defending her against her enemies. I’m also really hoping Deston is truly a good guy, at least when it comes to doing right by Seraphina. Guess we shall find out in the last book!
Seraphina keeps seeing Deston knowing he is with her enemy being tortured beyond endurance. She cannot sit idly by while this occurs. She makes her plans while cleaning the palace’s lower levels out of the vermin her enemy left behind. She uncovers the most unusual two entities who are both, very powerful; one wants vengeance on the same enemy; she will work a plan to both their satisfaction. Also, the debt compiled by Viktor only gives her three months to pay back the monies or the palace and all with it will belong to someone else. Once she rescues Deston, the newest and most powerful entity known to them will appear…and it is clear he wants one thing…Seraphina~ Little does anyone else know Deston has another MAJOR secret that awaits to be revealed…he will protect that along with Seraphina with everything within him…but Cyrus and Luthor are already scheming to discover his biggest secret…what will happen?
Morally ambiguous characters that leave you guessing are a favorite, and Deston's fast climbing my list of favorites, curious to see what will happen next.
"Despite the damage, despite what had been done to him, Deston was beautiful. Beyond beautiful. He was otherworldly, with a hint of blue veins showing through his pale skin, his long dark lashes curling against carved-out cheeks. But more than his beauty, I was drawn to the endless power that lurked inside this powerful vampire, filled with dark magic tempered by icy intellect and self-control. I wanted to break through that control, I wanted him to break, just this once. Just for me."
This series is completely binge-worthy, reading late in the night and waking to reach for my Kindle again. Serafina finding her power, court, and men is beautifully done. While I appreciate an erotic scene as much as anyone, the drama and unfolding plot are the real draw here.
3.5, maybe 4 stars. I liked this book a lot but it also caused a reading slump LOL. It also fixed it but we're not talking about that. JAW DROPPED... BTW... IF U EVEN CARE... bc of the ending Idk what to say this book was really good, continues the story nicely and keeps throwing curveball after curveball. So much stuff happens in these books, there's so much to keep up with but in a very good way. I've been gushing to my friends about these books which I basically never do because most books I read kind of suck, so you know I'm really enjoying it. Was I think my least favorite in the series so far, with the second book being my favorite, but that doesn't mean it wasn't really good. Maybe my least favorite was the first one... The series definitely took a turn for the better in my eyes when Deston became a staple. Either way, the book is good and well written (though has a few more editing mistakes than the prior two!!!!!!!!!) and I'm thoroughly invested.
Everything is coming at Seraphina from all sides, from the threat of losing the palace to fighting to get Deston back. Many secrets are revealed in this installment, and many I never saw coming. The main series arc continues to run, but this does not really end on a cliffhanger and all 4 books in the series is out now.
There are some major twists in this book that will put a whole new slant on the series, and it was quite the shock at the end. There are some heavy sex scenes, so if that’s not your cup of tea, this is a warning. It’s hard to describe the book without giving too much away, but this is a good vampire series that stands out in the genre and for readers that enjoy the vampires, this series is a must read. I would recommend that readers start at the beginning, as they don’t read that well as standalones.
Seraphina can’t catch a break. She defeated Viktor and officially became Queen only to gain a bigger foe in Katarina. Seraphina finds an unconventional solution to her Katarina problem, but trades her in for the biggest bad guy in existence!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve really enjoyed Seraphina’s journey. Lost Kingdom continues to explore how she copes with being thrusted into a dangerous unknown world. The love and protection of Luthor and Cyrus has help her survive, but she wants to thrive. I’m not sure how Deston plays into all of this after the conclusion of Lost Kingdom. I have a lot of unanswered questions!
The stakes continue to rise in this series and I can’t wait to read the conclusion to Seraphina, Luthor, Cyrus and Deston’s story.
Seraphina may have defeated the ancient vampire queen with the help of a questionable ally, but in doing so she released an even deadlier ancient evil. And, while she may have saved her mate, Deston's secrets could be the final straw that causes her to lose her two other loves Cyrus and Luthor forever. There are plenty of steamy interactions between these well written and unique characters, the main ones anyway. The plot has unexpected twists, magic, battles, and betrayal. Fantastic! Riveting book and series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I mean really. I don't know what's going on here but it's frustrating as a reader to see misleading reviews all because someone didn't actually read the series properly. I can only imagine how the author feels. It's not fair to anyone.
Moving on, HOLY SMOKES!! Talk about snowballing, role calling, and foe mauling!! Now THIS book had some LOUD moments. It's been my favorite by far and I'm deeply invested at this point. I cannot wait for the next book!
Ahhhh why did I think this was the last book?! Instead it’s a crazy cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. A lot happens in this book, an end to one era and a beginning to another. We are introduced to a new character who is powerful and mysterious. There are still areas that I wanted to skim because the writing was tedious, and I’m still not a huge fan of Seraphina’s immaturity. But I was entertained and would like to read more! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
I'm content with this one. Found a few more grammatical errors in my kindle version including a repeat paragraph. Editing was probably the biggest issue I had. I'm still invested in Deston and find him to be the most well developed character. I'm hoping the next installment goes into more of the religious undertones. I didn't much care for Katarina's character as a villain. Seraphina is still kinda 'meh' to me. If it wasn't for Deston. I probably would have lost interest in this series but for his sake, I will read the next book
This is the third book in the series and I'm just as fascinated as I was in the beginning, if anything even more fascinated. Everytime you think you have it all figured out a new twist comes along and grabs your attention. Action, intrigue, love and dramatic alpha males this book has it all. Now the addiction is real and I have to open the next book immediately so I leave you with this advice. Read these in order and make sure you have plenty of alone time because you will not want to put them down until you finish them all!
I enjoyed book 1 & 2 but started to get bogged down in 3 with her terrible decisions. She’s been making them sporadically all along, which is fine with me as long as she learns from them…except she doesn’t seem to be, really. Stubbornness as character trait can be good, but not in her case. Hers lets her down big time. I enjoyed reading about vampires a lot. I enjoyed the magic and how it manifested. I liked the semi slow build. I think the villains were great. So, many good things about these books. Worth a try I’d think.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
On the one hand, I'm okay with someone being an enemy and then gaining the trust to lovers, but I don't know Dreden is just I don't know. He did some pretty messed up stuff and it was just like, oh we are mates now and in love, and I was thinking, wut? That just...I don't know. I"m not a big fan of it. Insta love is a struggle for me usually. I think as a rule this book is actually pretty good. I just got annoyed with this whole thing and the revel at the end was a bit of a groaner but it's fine I will finish the series as i'm invested now but I struggle with some of the relationships.
This story keeps getting better. When the head of the snake was cut off another replaced it. This story is an interesting blend of the modern world and the ancient world of vampires. The twists never stop. I am again questioning Destons motives. I have never doubted Luthor and Cyrus. Will there be betrayal and heartbreak? I am here for it. I am looking forward to the conclusion of this series. It is sure to be a bumpy ride and a high speed finish. Spice 3
Enemies vanquished: 1. Viktor 2. Various Royals 3. Katarina
Now the biggest and baddest of them all - Caine - is in play. If Seraphina didn’t have bad luck, she’d have no luck at all. And, get this, she has no one to blame but herself for releasing him from prison. There’s a nice reveal about Deston near the end.
Oh, and let’s not forget the curses that emerge that affect both Seraphina and Tessa’s guys.
This series continues to have a unrelenting wave of BAD things that attack our heroine 😲. This book ends with a Insane twist and just when you think that the BAD female has finally got her just deserts, well let's just say an even Worse BAD guy steps in and his brother is as close as he could get to our beloved heroine, Oh No, what will happen now 😉. Thanks again L.A., I can't wait to see what happens next 🤓.
This was intense and dark. I loved every bit of it!! I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. This series is awesome!! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Highly recommend reading this.
A wonderful world and characters that's pull you right in from the first page and makes you never want to leave. Characters you can't help but fall in love with as they develop
Book 3 of The Darkfell Clan was just as powerful as the first. I’m looking forward to #4. I’m fully invested into these characters and this deeply woven plot.
I really like this series and would have given it a 5 if it had been edited. There are two paragraphs that are repeated, word for word, on the same page and numerous sentences where words are transposed or omitted altogether. With that being said, I can't wait to read the next book.
Getting really good!! What is Destin's end game? What will happen to Luther & Cyrus? Will Serephina remain queen? What is Caine's real story? Story is moving at a good pace. I'm very invested in these characters. They are very believable.
"I am simply a man who killed his brother, doomed to eternal punishment."
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5 / 5
"'Are you sure you’re in the right place?' I asked tiredly. 'We don’t do good news here. We do apocalyptic disasters. Dumpster fires. That sort of thing.'"
This series is by far one of the most exhilarating fantasy novels to date. The main character has grown into this bad ass heroine that will do anything to protect those she loves, even if it means making more enemies.
You are so good. I didn't see this coming . I Pride myself on seeing things coming. There is sex but not everywhere. This story itself is amazing. I'm on the last book. We'll see where it goes. 2nd series I've read. You are a master. My friend. I love it.
As I continue this series I feel pulled even deeper into this world. Things are about to get chaotic more then they already were. I suspected destin wasn't who he said he is but that reveal was wow I hope things can be worked out.
This amazing book and series is just that amazing!! I love the characters !! I love the amazing writing! I can't wait to read more! I highly recommend this series!!
