Her heart races as a noise from downstairs wakes her. She takes the stairs slowly, noticing the cellar door is wide open. Closing it, she returns to the safety of her bedroom. Seeing a movement in the corner of the room, she screams. She’s not alone. But nobody can help her now…

Writing scrawled on the wall of Sheriff Jenna Alton’s office overnight leads her and her deputy David Kane to a small house on the outskirts of Black Rock Falls. Inside, Jenna is devastated to find devoted churchgoer Agnes Wagner lying in a pool of blood, stab wounds covering her lifeless body. What monster would attack a defenceless woman living alone on a quiet street?

With no witnesses and no trace of the killer at the scene, the deadly message written on Jenna’s door is her only clue. But as she races to interview a contractor who recently had access to Agnes’s home, she discovers the wreck of a car on a mountain road, Agnes’s best friend dead inside.

Jenna knows the victims were close friends and she thinks a twisted killer has been watching them, waiting for the perfect time to strike. But before she can make her next move, one of her own team is found unconscious and covered in the blood of a third female victim—a knife inches away from his hand.

Pulse racing, Jenna fires questions at her shaken deputy, who can’t explain why he was in the woman’s house. Could he really be a killer, or is someone playing an evil game with Jenna and her team? The clock is ticking to uncover a dark secret in the past that connects all three victims, but can she work out who is terrorizing her small town before another innocent life is taken?

Detectives Kane and Alton #14

Her heart races as a noise from downstairs wakes her. She takes the stairs slowly, noticing the cellar door is wide open. Closing it, she returns to the safety of her bedroom. Seeing a movement in the corner of the room, she screams. She's not alone. But nobody can help her now.... With no witnesses and no trace of the killer at the scene, the deadly message written on Jenna's door is her only clue.

Once again we are in Black Rock Falls with Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team. This time a serial killers victims of choice is elderly ladies. There's no clues, evidence or motive that's obvious. This is a very well written book that's gripping and it has got a few red herrings. We also have a new deputy sheriff in town. The pace is fast from the beginning. some parts were a bit creepy, others I was holding my breath. I think reading Jenna and Dave's backstories has made me care for them more. There is a loose end that needs to be tied up, hopefully in the next book. The epilogue was just perfect.

Back to serial killer central with Dave and Jenna - I always look forward to reading these books, they never disappoint. I read this in an afternoon when I wasn't feeling the best and it was the perfect tonic.

Kane and Alton - and don't forget Duke - have become like a family to me now. This was another thrill ride from start to finish and again had me wondering why anybody would like in Black Rock Falls! This time somebody is killing little old ladies - harmless and well liked in the community. But why? And is it one of their own?

Pray for Mercy is book 14 in a series that just keeps going from strength to strength. I look forward to many more adventures with this pair. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read.

5 shiny ⭐️‘s!
Well that was really a surprise ending for me and well done! I guessed wrong several times. There is a few questions I’d love answered but I’m sure DK Hood has something up her sleeve for the new book coming out in a few weeks. I love the characters and how close they are making a tight family unit. I’m anxious for the next book to release!

Book 14 in the Kane and Alton series which of course brings another twisted killer to town. With the only clue to the victim being scrawled on Jenna's door there's not much to go on, But after they find Zac Rio at one of the brutal crime scenes unconscious with no memory at what can be described as a blood bath, Jenna and her team have the hard job of proving his innocence by catching the real killer.

My love for DK Hood and this entire series is off the chart I honestly read one book and think the next can't get better and it does every single book. It's great reading the continued relationship between Jenna and Kane I waited so long for them to get together officially and it's just so cute actually reading their love story. Even if it involves serial killer and near death experiences.

I found this instalment to have quite brutal murder scenes but let's be honest you can only get darker and I'm all for it! So when Deputy Zac Rio get's caught up in the investigation, it is interesting to see what the other deputies think about his charge. They don't know him well enough to be one hundred percent about his innocence's. Problem is if he is innocent then that means the killers still on the loose. Zac is having problems with his brother who has a new girlfriend and has gone completely off the rails. If Zac isn't guilty maybe his brother has something to do with it?
I honestly was completely hooked with this instalment the victims are very sympathetic ones and I felt completely invested with catching the killer. I must say my first suspicion was right but I had 100 more after so was a rollercoaster.

Like I said I am hooked to this book, i love the FBI links they have and I'm still hoping that they get a spin off series also, they are the FBI version of Kane and Alton. I also love 'the happy dance' if you know you know if you don't pick up book 1 and enjoy everything that follows. I am honestly lost for what DK Hood can write next as lets be honest for such a small town there have been a lot of serial killers even those who have come to play against the Sheriff and her team. So I cannot wait to find out what they next have install, I'm so excited!

Therefore I recommend this book and the entire series if you haven't started it yet. It's great for all the crime thriller lovers out there if you are a fan of Lisa Regan. Stacy Green, Wendy Drainfield or any other amazing crime thriller writer then you will love this book. Be prepared for some hilarious moments along with some dark ones. Kane and Alton's relationship is just amazing and believe me it will only get better. We also get to see how Deputy Jake is getting on with the new twins and let's not forget we spend a lot of time worrying about Deputy Zac is he or is he not a killer? only way you will find out is by picking up a copy of this amazing book. There's a reason DK Hood is my favourite American crime thriller writer an easy 5 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley, DK Hood and bookouture for the digital ARC of Pray for Mercy in exchange for my fair and honest opinions. Cannot wait for book 15

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Pray For Mercy' by DK Hood.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for DK Hood, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 7th March 2022.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the fourteenth book in the 'Detective Kane and Alton' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Cross My Heart' (book twelve in the series) and 'Fallen Angel' (book thirteen in the series) which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'If you’re a fan of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, you will love this gripping read.' I am a huge fan of all three of those authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of DK Hood and if this is half as good as 'Cross My Heart' and 'Fallen Angel' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 50 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in Montana, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Sheriff Jenna Alton and Detective David Kane. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

OMG!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED THIS BOOK!!! D.K HOOD you just keep getting better and better!!!

This book is fantastically written and had me hooked from the first page until the last. DK Hood way of writing is perfectly evocative and she has such a creative imagination!! The descriptions were so vivid and realistic I felt myself feeling the cold and reaching for a blanket to warm me up. This has got to be one of the best storyline I have ever read!!!! OMG the suspense, especially during a certain event left me with my heart in my throat!! Needless to say I absolutely LOVED the storyline. This book is absolutely perfect for any crime lovers as you are literally reading about crime, secrets and murder!!! It just does not get better than that!!! Just seriously, I cannot say how brilliant all this book was!!! The storyline is packed with tension, suspense, murder, tension and filled with twists and turns. I was absolutely shocked when everything was revealed and was not expecting it at all!!! A HUGE congratulations to D.K Hood, it is getting harder and harder to shock me but you did it well!!! . D.K Hood has obviously done her research on police procedurals which is yet another bonus as I've read many crime novels where the authors make massive mistakes due to not doing enough research. This is an absolutely unputdownable page turner and I cannot wait to read the previous and future books in what is promising to be an addictive series. I did have one small issue which would normally mean I only gave a book 4/5 instead of 5/5 and that was what happened with Poppy? There was something that happened but then she was barely mentioned again which is driving me crazy wanting to know. Whether this is done on purpose and all will be revealed in the next book I'm unsure. I cannot wait to read it either way and do hope we get some answers.

Although this is the fourteenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I absolutely LOVED meeting the characters again and they are all realistic and I became completely invested in them. I love that Jenna is such a strong female lead that has history and has been through so much but doesn't cower and stands strong. I enjoyed watching her relationship with Kane and I am looking forward to going back to how they met and moving forward to see where it goes especially after how the book ended (LOVE LOVE LOVE by the way!!!) Kane is another fantastic character that I became invested in and I adore how protective of Jenna he is. The team dynamics worked well and I also enjoyed getting to know more about Rio, Wolfe and Rowley and I look forward to meeting them all again. I must say my favourite had to be Duke though!!!! What an absolutely fantastic addition, I just love it when pets play such large parts in books.

Congratulations D.K Hood on what promises to be a huge success!!! Very rarely an authors books get better but you have certainly mastered it!!! I cannot wait to get stuck into more of your books and I would like to welcome you to my favourite crime author list!!!

This book is definitely in my top 10 and considering I've read 1000's this is a HUGE achievement!!! This series is also in my top 5 ♥

Do not start this until you have cleared yours schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

Overall an absolutely addictive, heart racing and unputdownable crime thriller that will keep you up all night.

Genres covered in this novel include Police Procedural, Suspense, Mystery, Thriller, Noir Fiction and Crime Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh, Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, Kendra Elliot and anyone looking for a gripping page turner .

346 pages.

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Another brilliant book in the Kane and Alton series.
When an old lady is found with her throat slashed, Jenna has a feeling there’s more murders to come.
She’s absolutely right and calls on Jo and Carter to help.
It seems someone is killing off old ladies who live in remote locations but Jenna can’t work out why.
When Rio is found unconscious with a victim’s blood all over him, they know the killer is clever and is trying to play with them.
There’s a heart stopping moment when Kane and Alton come face to face with the killer and I’m still recovering!
I didn’t guess who the killer was but when it was revealed, it all clicked into place. This is a clever crime thriller which I really enjoyed.
I love this series and can’t wait for the next book.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

What is going on in Black Rock Falls????? Way too much if you ask Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane. Things start to get real when it looks like one of their own could be a suspect.
Why is there someone going around killing senior ladies? What is the motive?
Get ready for a suspenseful, chilling story.
The characters continue to be well developed and engaging.
I definitely recommend reading this series from the beginning. Having the backstory as to how all the characters became who they are is important to know.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Pray for Mercy by D.K. Hood is the 14th in the Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputing Dave Kane series, and takes place in Black Rock Falls, Montana.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:   (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Former DEA, Jenna Alton is now the Sheriff in Black Rock Falls, Montana.  Her past is a secret.  Deputy David Kane's background is also a secret.  He was a Special Forces sharpshooter, and a bodyguard to the President.  They are now "an item",  but keeping their relationship a secret.  Then there is Forensic Scientist Shane Wolfe, who is not only a Medical Examiner with amazing computer skills, he used to be Kane’s handler. So, with a few other deputies, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small Black Rock Falls town, which seems to have more murders than a small town should.

My Synopsis:   (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
An elderly woman is murdered in her own home.  Agnes Wagner was in her 80's.

Then Jolene Darvish is found dead in a car wreck along a mountain road.  Jenna and Dave had talked to her yesterday, because someone in a GMC truck tried to run her off the road.  She was also in her 80's -- and a friend of Agnes.

The team starts investigating links between the two women, and find quite a few.  Other than their ages, they are both part of a quilting circle.  They both live alone. They also both use the same  contractors for repairs to their homes.  They will not be the last elderly woman to die.

Meanwhile, Rio is having problems with his brother, who has gotten himself involved with an older woman.  Rio himself is acting weird.

My Opinions:
Well, once more, the team is not good enough to solve their crime without calling in the FBI.  I think Jo and Carter might as well just move to Black Rock Falls.

I have never held back my disdain for Jenna's weakness and Dave's over-bearing authority in these books, but I am starting to see a little more strength in Jenna, just not enough.

As well, I have always praised the plots of these books, and this was another good one, with a couple of twists.  And although the big one had crossed my mind, it was a while before I was sure that I was right.

So, overall, these books are good solid mysteries, and I will continue reading them.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane are back in the game with a even more mysterious case to solve. And not just one crime, but a bigger picture will be discovered step by step while they are trying to solve it.
I can only say that I was very shocked to find out who the villain was because the whole story has taken me to so many places and tried my theories to extreme and I was still wrong all the way through! And believe it or not, 99% of the cases I am right! So this story hit the jackpot and made me feel al the pulse racing and spikes of adrenaline while reading it.
Nothing quite new there as I loved the previous books in the series but this one might be my favourite so far.

Oh my days. Oh my days. Oh my days…

I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this book. I just had to know what was going to happen, but I did not expect anything as explosive as this!!! Eek.

I loved that in this book, it took until chapter 32 to reach inside the mind of said killer; however………..I could not have been more wrong. I need the next book now. I mean seriously! We have a case wide open, and I need a conclusion.

I loved how much was going on in this book with no idea how it would all link. These poor grandmas have been horrifically murdered. And then one of our own is found at the scene, excuse me, but oh my days!

This book was a sucker punch in so many ways. My emotions have been completely put through the wringer. I mean, how much can one person take and what I mean by that is me!! There is so much action, which I love, but equally, it was the edge of your seat stuff because I had no idea how this would all end. Too many times, my heart was in my throat!!!!

I love that Rio was a bit more in the forefront this time, as we witnessed him trying to be a brother and a father to the tearaway twins, causing more problems than it’s worth. Plus a new storyline for us to discover with Shane, too. Plus, newcomer Poppy, what an entrance she has made, and well, I am hoping we see her again soon!!! No more can be said.

The comradery with the team is one I love. They have each other’s back. Even Ty and Jo are extended to this, and I do love that they still get involved. I think it’s the personal moments I do love with this series throughout all the bleakness. It’s the quips with Ty and Jo; it’s the fondness with Jenna and dave. The rare sacred moments with Rowley, Sally, and the twins. And the Papa bear ferocious protectiveness of Shane. All this makes them real to me.

I just adore this series, loving it from the start and after reading every one of them. I am never bored. I am entertained and put through an emotional rollercoaster each time, one where you are never sure what will happen when you get off. I love that we have more books coming, and I can’t wait to see where it all goes.

Whilst many crime thrillers focus on the crime
This shares more about the team and how they spend their time.
There are family dramas, friendships and taking chances
As well as heartwarming romances.

The characters are shown as people who have a life
Away from their jobs and all its associated strife.
Making them feel like folks you may know
And making the books even more page turners as you go.

This time it is elderly ladies who're being killed
Leaving Jenna and her team with hearts that are chilled.
Why are these ladies being targeted - and by who?
Finding out is what Jenna and team are determined to do.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this chilling tale
And the ending had me smiling - it couldn't fail!
The author brings the events vividly to life so
The people and places feel like ones you know.

I can't wait to read more about Alton and Kane
And discover what happened to that new colleague who was a pain.
An intriguing crime thriller, such a great read,
Just what folks who enjoy this genre need!

What a great addition to this series of crime thrillers,
With totally unexpected serial killers.
I can never resist this author's books
And highly recommend you give them a good look!

For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
It is such a great read, this is my honest review.

Wow! What an exciting and engaging work of fiction.

Someone is murdering little old ladies in the worst possible manner. These women are harmless and liked in the little community of Black Rock Falls, Montana.

Enter Sheriff Jenna Alto, her main deputy, David Kane, pathologist Shane Wolfe and all the other deputies. And they get assistance from the FBI agents Ty Carter and Jo Slater.

The story gets even more harrier when one of their own comes under suspicion.

Ms. Hood keeps getting better and better. This might be her best novel yet. I am so glad I happened upon her writing. It is clear and easy to read and follow. While parts may be a little gruesome, this book is well worth finishing. The only thing I have a question about is that it left a little hanging. Perhaps in the next book, we will find out what happens to the Poppy character.

I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this remarkable book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.

I would give it 10 stars if I could! Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and DK Hood for the opportunity to read and review "Pray For Mercy", the 14th book in the Kane and Alton series.
I cannot believe we're at book #14 already! What a ride it's been. And what a ride this instalment was. Black Rock Falls is a mecca for psychopaths, serial killers, kidnappers and everyday, run-of-the-mill crazies.... but it's also the home of Sheriff Jenna Alton, Deputy Dave Kane, ME Shane Wolfe (and his daughters), and deputies Zac Rio and Jake Rowley (and let's not forget Maggie and Deputy Walters). So the crazies had better watch out - you can run, but you cannot hide for long.
In Pray For Mercy, someone (someones?) is offing little old ladies, grandmothers, quilting circle members - and in the most gruesome of ways. As the bodies start accumulating, Jenna and Dave know that Black Rock Falls has, once again, entered 'the serial killer zone', and they'd better get to the bottom of it all.
At the same time, the relationship of Jenna and Dave seems to be getting closer and closer, even though Jenna is worried about furtive and interrupted phone calls.
But when it appears that Deputy Rio is their perpetrator - something neither Jenna, Dave nor Shane can believe - they decide to bring in the 'big guns' - Jo Slater and Ty Carter, FBI agents and friends who work nearby, to disprove his guilt, and figure out just what is going on in Black Rock Falls, and who and why these murders are occurring.. And, as usual, it's not pretty.
DK Hood had me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, with tears in my eyes at the climax of this one!
Now the question is, what happened to Poppy?

Pray for Mercy is the fourteenth book in the police procedural series featuring Detectives David Kane and Jenna Alton. I picked up this series with Whisper in the Night (book 6) and I also thoroughly enjoyed books seven through to thirteen.

Set in Black Rock Falls, Montana, Sheriff Jenna Alton makes a very likeable detective. Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small town, which has certainly seen more than its fair share of murders! Her deputy, David Kane is a former Special Forces marksman with exceptional profiling skills.

In this instalment, Agnes Wagner lies in a pool of blood, her body covered with stab wounds. A message has been scrawled on Jenna's home office door which is her only clue of the murderer's identity. When another elderly woman is found dead in a car on a quiet road it would seem that someone has a grudge against older ladies. But then one of Jenna's team, Rio is discovered with a victim's blood on him at another crime scene.

As I knew it would be, this novel was a well balanced, electrifying and solid police procedural that had me glued to the pages. I didn't want to put it down as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story. The tension snowballed as D.K. Hood launched at me some captivating misdirection. The writing flowed effortlessly and swiftly in a story rich in drama. I will be seeking out the first five instalments of this masterful series. A brilliant, compelling, pulse-pounding and very highly recommended crime-thriller.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

4.5 stars. Great and involved investigation as usual. Well written, lots of action and detailed policework. I finally figured out the identity of the murderer towards the end, not long before the author revealed the mystery. So I'm impressed with myself. 😀

My only problem, is that my brain gets scrambled trying to sort out the influx of characters as this series evolves. Then I get confused every time people are referred to by their first names, then their last names in another scene. That's always been a problem when I read thrillers, as I'm predominantly a romance reader and am used to smaller casts. (I know all these characters in DK's books have to be there. Lol.)

On to the next book, which I assume will be covering the one plot thread left hanging.

The 14th installment in the Kane & Alton series, *Pray For Mercy*, delivers an action-packed, fast-paced thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. Set in the notorious Black Rock Falls, where serial killers seem to thrive, this time a twisted murderer has been targeting the sweet elderly ladies of the crochet club. The senselessness of these brutal killings stumps Kane and Jenna, who race against time to protect the town's seniors before someone close to them becomes the next victim.

The plot is incredibly engaging, with a unique and twisted storyline that had me eagerly turning the pages. I found the suspense gripping, and the mystery kept me guessing. And for longtime fans of the series, the ending gives us a step closer to something we've been waiting for! I can't wait to see what new twisted adventure awaits Kane & Alton in the next book!

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture & D.K. Hood for the arc!

I read this in a cold wintry English afternoon and it was the best tonic. This is pure escapism and it was like wrapping myself up in an warm blanket going back to Kane and Alton. This time it was someone killing off the elderly - the way the story worked through and ended was brilliant and I can't wait for the next one, but wouldn't like to live there (how many serial killers can there be).

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

One of the posts I love to read the most on Social Media is the announcing of a new book by this author. It pleases me immensely and I know I will be in for a treat. Her Alton and Kane series simply is to die for. If I could I would read one of her books every day.

Why are they so great? The story is always amazing. I called her more than once my queen of suspense because of the creepy bits in the books that make me look behind me too. I love every person on her team and of course the two FBI agents have found a spot in my heart also. An author who adds not one but two dogs as main characters ticks an important box for me as well. Me, as a total dog addict can only applaud this and it warms my heart. I can feel the love their bosses have for them and vice versa and I can relate to that.

This time too Jenna, David and Shane can use the expertise of Jo, Carter and Bobby to deal with this frenzied and very clever killer. And I could have eaten Duke. He is so adorable and devoted.

Only praise from me for this author and her excellent books. 5 stars for the umpteenth time and well deserved too. 😊

Thank you, D.K. Hood and Bookouture

It's been quiet of late in Black Rock Falls, so quiet in fact that Sheriff Jenna Alton and First Deputy David Kane have taken a day off to go shopping in Helena! Quiet is never good in murder central however and when their lunch is disturbed by a call from Deputy Jake Rowley with details of a suspicious death it isn’t really a surprise to either of them!

Agnes Wagner was a threat to no one, elderly and well liked but even with a tight circle of friends someone was able to carry out a vicious and violent attack resulting in her death. With the killer intent on spreading fear and terrifying the other elderly residents of Black Rock Falls Jenna knows she needs to concentrate her efforts, and those of her team, on the beginning of a complex investigation before they lose control of the situation.

With personal problems plaguing one of the tight knit group she leads also in the forefront of her mind Jenna is devastated to find a colleague at a subsequent crime scene covered in blood. Time becomes of the essence and with the killer seemingly calling the shots Jenna and Dave are forced to undertake a mode of confrontation which could easily kill them both.

Amazingly this is the fourteenth story in the Kane and Alton Mystery Series, along with two novellas, and, after a blip in book thirteen, the author is back on top form once again. The victims are sympathetically written and once again the storyline benefits from the inclusion of FBI agents Jo Wells and Ty Carter who are always an asset whenever they appear. Add to this the problems one of her deputies is experiencing at home which definitely has him off his game and the scene is set for the multi-layered mystery Ms Hood excels at.

The two recent novellas have meant more personal information is available on both Jenna and Dave which is neatly included throughout and there are the intriguing beginnings of what could be the main investigation in their fifteenth outing! This is an excellent page turner which I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I have no hesitation in recommending this book and the series unreservedly.

This is one of my favourite long running series.  Jenna Alton and Dave Kane are two of the greatest characters I have read especially Dave.

The relationship between Jenna and Dave is one that is so strong and you can see so much in these characters that is noble and honourable.

Kane shows so much but also kind of scares me to a point as he seems to go from this sweet and innocent man and all of a sudden the switch is turned and he goes darkness incarnate.

The story itself is just like all the others top of the line.  I don't think I have ever seen a bad story line in this series.  This one is slightly harder to deal with as it deals a lot with elderly people and murders or attempted murders.  It really brings it home as I see what a lot of these people live through daily.

Are the senior women in BlackRock Falls safe.  A rash of attacks and murders has both Jenna and Dave trying to find out what happened as well as what they should do.  The book is full of twists and turns but I love seeing the FBI back in the picture especially since they are such great help and I have really started to like Jo and Ty so much.  Hoping to see a lot more of them maybe even a spin off series.

How this book made me feel was so glad that I found this super series.  I love series but I find that most start to go downhill after a few books since there isn't much new to learn about the characters.  This isn't the case with this series as I am still trying to figure out these characters even after 14 books.

I was so shocked by this book and was completely flabbergasted by the writing. You will have to read this book to really see what I am referring to.  What a great book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow! D. K. Hood never disappoints! This is book #14 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. Of course, now Jenna Alton is Sheriff Jenna Alton of Black Rock Falls. This little snow-covered town has seen it's fair share of serial killers and psychopaths, but these killers have picked the wrong town to pick on. It may be a small town, but the police force is not your average small town police force (think former Navy Seal, FBI contacts, etc.) In this book someone is murdering the little old ladies of the quilting circle. Kane and Alton are stumped as to who would want to kill the harmless elderly church ladies of their community. The attacks are very up front and personal, but as usual not everything is as it seems. I absolutely love the characters in this series. You cannot forget Duke the beloved dog. He plays a very vital role in the book as well. The fear is well played and intensity is well controlled, but you will be on the edge of your seat at the end. The action really picks up at the end of the book. Suspense and intrigue are always present in this series. This is another win for D.K. Hood. I would highly recommend this book. Actually I would highly recommend that you read this entire series!

“What is wrong with this town?”

You know what Jenna? I really don’t know what is wrong with Black Rock Falls. It’s meant to be this quiet backwater town where two people can hide from the enemy and at every turn, there are psychopaths doing their upmost to make the town notorious! And this time, someone is bumping off elderly ladies!! What The Hell??!

Yes I’ve returned to my favourite location in Montana for another murder investigation with Kane, Alton and the team. but this killer is toying with the team, throwing them titbits to find the bodies left in remote locations. This killer has one helluva game plan to execute. My mind jumped through hoops as the investigation progressed, zipping from suspect to suspect. And the remoteness of each murder – that gave me the heebie jeebies!!

Hood has upped the ante with this one. Not only did I get into the guts of the investigation but I got to know the latest recruit Rio a bit better and also thrown into the mix is a minx trying to turn Kane’s head. Will she succeed? I was desperate to see how both Kane and Alton would deal both individually and together with this thorn in the proverbial.

I’ve loved this series from the start and I just can’t get enough of my trips to Montana. This book has left me with lots of questions so I’m waiting with baited breath for book 15(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(4.5) *Don't be his achilles heel Jenna* Kane for someone so intelligent, excellent profiler and sniper you sure obtuse with women. Not with Jenna, thank goodness! I was not surprised who the main creepy psycho killer was, but there were still surprises. D.K. Hood always delivers on the creep that's for sure! This book has all our family members involved and invested. If you have read this series at all they are your family. It took my breath, it made me hurt and it goes to show you never, never whats going on behind clothes doors. I wanted to smack Cade. I am growing more fond of Carter. I have a sneaking suspicion that loose thread Poppy might be tugged next book. Honestly I was not very fond of her, no doubt she would be one to kick a dog. When the book starts off with them shopping and Kanes request I had a thought, wasn't sure, but a thought. The ending was pure perfection. I love watching this team grow as individuals and as a group and I love when Jo and Carter come to play. Thank you for the arc! I love this series and I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Another complicated and riveting case for Jenna and David. Sheriff Jenna Alton survived years undercover and is now the Sheriff of Black Rock Falls, Montana. Her deputy, David Kane, is former military who could still be called to active duty upon orders from the Oval Office. When a message sends them to the home of an elderly woman, they find the woman savagely murdered and stuffed in a closet. Who could have done this to a helpless, elderly woman? When a second woman’s vehicle is forced over a cliff, is this a serial killer targeting the elderly? During the wide-ranging investigation, the duo deal with a new employee, personal issues affecting the lives of her close-knit family of deputies and a potential rock slide that may cost the life of one of their own. The killer is taunting them…how many will die before they are stopped? Jenna and David are used to danger and threats on their own lives, but as they wade through the evidence and suspects they learn that evil has no limit. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

I'm a bit conflicted about this entry in the series. There was a mystery left unaddressed, the perpetrator was obvious from almost the first page, and I definitely do not need or like a HEA between Alton & Kane. For me, this is about the crime-solving and the side characters, and bumping up the relationship part of the series just doesn't do much for me.

Making A Psychopath

This was an excellent, exciting read. Details in the story give the reader possible ways someone can enjoy murdering. It is also wonderful.to read of the deepening relationship between Kane and Alton..

Heart pounding!! Guaranteed thrill ride! I never saw the twist coming…kept me questing right up until the big reveal. The climax itself was high-adrenaline and had me frantically trying to get to the end just to make sure all of our beloved Black Rock Falls characters made it to the end!! Tears were shed for sure at the ending but they were happy ones…and the epilogue is adorable…a tour de force from DK Hood!

Another brilliant addition to this brilliant series. Number 14 and there’s no staleness creeping in like there are in so many other long running series. Of course there are multiple murders, and pies from Aunt Betty’s but somehow it’s all as fresh as the first one. Great development in the subplot with a great ending too
