She wasn’t meant for someone like me. But I took her anyway…

Eliza Quinn signified everything I didn’t deserve.
I never should have talked to her, touched her, kissed her.

But I fell for her so hard and so fast.
Even though I knew we were destined for disaster.

Staying with her was never an option.
I was leaving Shiloh Springs, and not even she could stop me.

Five years later, I think I've moved on.
Then my manager books my next photography exhibition at the most luxurious hotel in New York City.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger warnings: Alcholism, child abuse, assault.

This was an okay story. It had the sizzling chemistry, addictive writing, and a fun little plot line with amazing side Cs.

Only thing missing here would be some emotional chemistry and perhaps more time spent uncovering and finding an actual solution to their inner turmoil and past issues rather than rushing through it all.

But apart from that, I’m quite excited for the second book.

Until the next read,

Very enjoyable read.

Hux was adorable, his quietness, his quirkiness, and that secret dirty boy side of him. Eliza, oh she called out to me, I felt for her, never really being able to be herself until Huxley 🖤 and damn I loved her. The chemistry between them was great, that fight Huxley put up, El’s determination!

The re meet was dropped on them and I loved how Huxley then pulled up his big girl pants and went for what he wanted x

Definitely read this 🖤

First of all - I LOVE HUX!
Now, let's start...
This book is about Hux; he's an 18-year-old boy living with an alcoholic dad. Hux loves to take his camera everywhere and take pictures.
He also "loves" Eliza from afar (Liza, El). She is the popular girl, and he is the guy who always eats alone, sits alone, and doesn't connect with anyone.
Eliza is not exactly like the popular girls in the school. She notices Hux. Huxley and Eliza are getting closer, but Hux needs to leave.
These are the kind of books that from the first page you are captive. You are fascinated by the story and the characters.
Both Hux's prologue and Eliza's prologue drew me more and more into the book, and I could not leave it!
My heart ached so much because of Hux and his life at home.
My heart expanded from the special connection that existed between Hux and Eliza.
I intentionally tried to read this book slowly to enjoy every page of it. I wanted to dive slowly into the story of Hus and Eliza.
When I put the book aside, I thought about them. I tried to describe them in my head and tried to think how the book would progress.
When you read a book and connect with characters from the first page - you know that the author did a good job.
There is a story about pain, abuse, cruelty, evil, sadness, and lies. Despite everything, it is a story of forgiveness, understanding, second chance, acceptance, and great love that survives times and distance.
Hux's strength was admirable and painful at the same time.
El's strength was impressive and made me appreciate her even more. Their strength together was invincible!
This story really got into my heart, mind, and thoughts, and I know I will think about Hux and Eliza for weeks, if not more.

Perfect second chance love story that gave me all the feels. These two were so perfect for each other until life had other ideas and unfortunately Hux broke Eliza’s heart and tears later it’s still broken.

Why was Eliza so angry?

Eliza in the first part of the book was a great character. Quirky, generous and basically a badass. Eliza in the second part was a whiny little gremlin.

Huxley and Eliza met when they were in high school (although the sex doesn't seem very high school to me. Not sure where Huxley got his moves from but he certainly doesn't remind me of any boys I went to school with!). And Huxley repeatedly tries to push Eliza away because he knows he leaving soon due to emotional and physical abuse at home. And Eliza's response is always, I don't care, I just want to be with you now. She constantly chases him (to stalker extents sometimes). She says she understands he is leaving. She even helps him study so he can pass his exams (which he needs to do to leave). And at one point she even says, you have to go. Because if you love someone you want what's best for them.

So when it's 5 years later and she's furious and hates him, I kept reading thinking I would find out what happened in those 5 years to make her so angry. And it turns out it was just that Huxley did what he always said he was going to. He left. That's it. So either she was just a liar when they were younger or she's an idiot.

The story itself is pretty average. They're not convincing teenagers and of course both of them have amazing careers even though they're only 23 when they meet again. If the author had just given them more of a time lapse and a better reason for Eliza's anger this would have been a much better story.

I loved this book! It was such a beautiful love story. This is the story of Huxley and Eliza. The two come from completely different financial backgrounds.
Huxley's life is miserable. He is a loner who loves his camera and finding the beauty of the world through his lens. Eliza comes from a wealthy, loving family and is part of the popular crowd at school. But despite these differences they both see and find something in each other that connects them. Unfortunately the pair is separated and it takes five years before they are united.
Huxley is convinced that he is not good enough for Eliza and Elizabeth has to set out to prove to him that he is exactly what she wants and needs.
I know my review is somewhat vague but I don't want to give anything away. This book is such a beautiful love story filled with such beauty and passion!

I am a new fan of J.B. Heller's after reading her book, What If It's Right?. But after I finished Moments of Beauty, she continues to impress me with her beautiful and well thought out books. I was immediately drawn into this story, and it was such an emotional read. I honestly cannot recommend this book or What If It's Right? enough, and I cannot wait to read more from Heller!

Huxley and Eliza come from different worlds. While Huxley has had a rough home life and spends his time trying to be unseen, Eliza grew up in a loving home where she never wanted for anything. Huxley knows that there are beautiful things in life though, which is why he spends his time behind the lens of his cameratrying to capture those moments. Things between them quickly became a connection unlike any they had felt before, but then he left her behind. Now 5 years later, Huxley is back to fix his biggest regret and to try and win her back.

I loved these two. They were so different from one another, and yet they fit perfectly together as though they had always been meant for each other. I loved that despite the miserable life he had lead and all the ugly that Huxley saw, that he was still able to see beauty and seek it out. Though he had problems seeing that he was worth so much more, it was great that Eliza never saw that with him and did everything she could to show him that he was worthy. I really liked Eliza and felt like she was easy to relate to. These two had great chemistry, but their connection was what made them so special.

Overall, I felt like this book was everything that I had hoped it would be and these characters were ones that I was invested in. J.B. Heller did a great job of drawing me into this book and giving me all the feels. There were times that I was heartbroken for these characters and all that they had been through or were experiencing, and yet I knew I was filled with hope seeing the love and connection that was undeniable between Hux and El. This is one that I think a lot of readers are going to love and if you haven't read anything from J.B. Heller yet you are seriously missing out.

This book was AWESOME!!!!

I am a JB fan from before but this book reached out and made you feel. How could you not! The characters are lovable and you want the very best for them the whole way through. This book started with sweet high school love and jumps to years later as their story continues. I was riveted in reading it and it is definitely one you can read in an afternoon if you dive in like me! Excellent ending too ;) Definitely not what I was expecting! And for the ladies wondering if there is HOT love and sex? YES! The chemistry is HOT and they handle it well.

Would LOVE to see a follow up for these two and maybe a story for Ben?

This novel is brilliant and eloquently told...
This is a story, about self discovery, self worth....
....finding it and accepting it from " the beauty " from within..

Many emotions with this story,
yes it may break your heart,
but it also puts back together again..

I couldn't put it down...on edge throughout the book..a need to know what was going to happen...
Without telling you, the plot or outcome....read and enjoy this "beautiful " story !

Just okay

This started out well enough, but the second half felt rushed. I didn't understand the anger Eliza had at Hux when they meet up again five years later. She knew what he was living with, knew he had to get away from his father. She acted like he just left out of thin air, with no explanation. She could be angry that he never reached out to her in all that time, but that's not where the author went. I think this could have really been a great story if it and been fleshed out a little more.

Favorite Quotes:

I repeat the mantra I’ve been using since he left to remind myself of what I am. You’re stronger than one boy. You are a f*ing dolphin in a sea full of catfish. You’re a catch, damn it!

It’s not that I can’t imagine a future without him, it’s that I don’t want to.

I want to be with you, day in, day out. And I will do whatever I need to in order for that to happen. You’re it… you’re my one and only. You always have been. I’m not going anywhere without you, ever again.

My Review:

Written in my favorite dual POV, Moments of Beauty was a heart-squeezing and emotive tale that stole my breath. I initially feared I had stumbled into YA, naughty YA, but as the characters were in high school, I began to worry. Silly me! I really should know better as I have read this delightfully talented author’s work before. The storyline was relevant, well constructed, and entertaining, while the writing was poignant, engaging, and captivating. I cherished and adored this endearing couple.

Trigger warning for: alcoholism, mental abuse.

Okay so we have a sunshine girl Eliza she a rich popular girl who fakes it but underneath is super quirky, Huxley is a poor boy from a broken home suffering from abuse. Ugh it was so hard to read the self hatred he felt at the hands of his father. 💔 Love that Huxley is artistic, loved the second chance aspect the first half of the book takes place while in high school tho but i liked it. Loved the authors storytelling it's my first read from her. I wish it would have been longer tho. 🥲

Broken Boys Break Hearts is my first book by JB Heller but it will not be my last. I absolutely loved Eliza and Huxley.

These two were two broken people who didn't realize how much they needed the other until they found each other. Their love was intense and fast but broken boys break hearts. Huxley didn't realize his worth and with that came a lot of pain and heartache for these two.

I loved everything about this book and can't wait to dive into book two.

“Taking in the moments of beauty I’ve captured through my lens soothe me as I fall asleep”

As always JB delivers an amazing book packed full of punch straight into it and to the point this is what I love about this author she doesn’t drag a book out for millions of pages her books are a great size and jammed pack full of emotion.

“If I could freeze time and capture this absolutely perfect moment, I would. This right here, is my definition of a moment of beauty.”

Hux thinks his invisible he pretends to be he breezes through school with no friends he sits at the same tree every lunch and just watches, he watches her.

Hux never speaks to her he doesn’t believe he is worth it, his not in there clicky group.

His flying through school so he can hurry up and get away from his dad he feels the faster he is away from him the better his dad will be, so his father keeps telling him.

Hux’s father Henry blames Hux for ruining his life and taking away the love of his life…..

Hux’s mother.

“My life has become one of the moments of beauty I was once obsessed with capturing.”

She left when he was the tender age of 2 years old never to return and his father has blamed him ever since that day.

On his way home one night Hux gets a lift.

With the one he watches.

The one that is full of beauty.

The one he feels he will never be good enough for.

It doesn’t matter.

His leaving.

“Its more than a moment of beauty, so much more, because I made it happen.”

Eliza has been watching Hux for a while, he intrigues her, she wants him so that she will get….. But for how long??

After weeks of being together and falling in love it’s time for Hux to leave, to start fresh, a new life.

“I make the most of stolen moments with her”

His heart breaks to leave her but he knows he needs to.

After an amazing night, Eliza wakes up alone.

His gone.

Forever?

The story of Eliza and Hux is an emotional beautiful read it takes us on a journey with them we can feel what they feel, we can feel Hux’s doubt about himself, but beautiful to see him rediscover himself and know his self-worth and that he is worthy of Eliza’s love.

“But despite him. You’ve turned into this amazing human being who takes my breath away with your appreciation of the little, seemingly inconsequential things in life,”

5 Stars

“This right here, this is my happy place.”

Such An Awesome and Beautiful Book!! ❤️❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review

This is my first ever read by JB Heller and I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and any others she has written. This book was absolutely beautiful. It literally ripped my heart to pieces then gradually pieced it back together bit by bit as the fabulous characters found their HEA together.

This is Huxley and Eliza’s story and it’s definitely an emotional one. Huxley is the mysterious boy that hides from everyone and feels he’s worthless and causes nothing but pain and misery because that’s what he’s been told growing up. Eliza is a girl who feels she has to hide who she is to fit in at school unable to be herself and carefree until the day she decides she’s finally going to approach the boy she’s always had a crush on….Huxley. But their time together is short but absolutely beautiful and what they both need until the day comes and Huxley leaves. For five years they both drown themselves in work to keep from feeling their loneliness until the day they’re thrust back into each other’s lives.

You will experience the love, the pain, the heartbreak, the sadness, the anger, the betrayal, the forgiveness and the relief these two go thru and feel. These two are so broken but are so perfect together because the two of them make each other whole. If you love a story that’s so real and so relatable then you have definitely got to read this. Definitely highly recommend this book!!

4 stars.
I went into this book not expecting much, it was new to me author that I had not heard too much about.
That being said, I really liked this book. Let me tell you how it goes: So we have Hux and Eliza who are sort of like end-of-High-School sweethearts, they are both pretty different and live ridiculously different lives but opposites attract. Hux is reluctant to initiate a relationship with El because at the moment he finished HS he's gone. As a result of the very complicated home life that has left him feeling worthless and useless, he thinks that the only solution at hand is leaving everything behind. With a mind made up and a lot of inner struggle, he and El decide to give their relationship a try in the small space of time they have.
Flash forward 5 years where we find two very successful adults, living, of course, separated lives and trying not to think of one another but life usually likes to complicate things by putting them both back into each other's path.
I really enjoyed this book, it was fast-paced but it was also so very sweet with engaging and interesting main characters and a gripping story. I had a great time reading it, it made me laugh and it made me sad but overall I felt joy reading it.

Huxley is that boy in the playground who sits alone on the sidelines watching everything going on around him. No one includes him in anything and that’s okay because he has his own goals. He’s focused on studying so he can finish school early and working to save enough money to leave. His father is a drunk who blames his son for his unhappiness and behaves like child while Huxley looks after him. The one thing he can count on and that is always by his side is his camera. Looking at moments of beauty through a lens...snap, seeing things in a different perspective...snap and perfect lighting...snap. Although they’ve known one another their whole life they don’t know one another at all. Eliza comes hurtling into Huxley’s orderly life like a mini tornado. Her false persona drops and she emerges as herself totally at ease with the real Eliza. She throws him off his axis and gives him reason to smile...until he leaves. Huxley will never be good enough for her, so he takes her memory with him in the form of thousands of photo’s.

Slow and Rushed

The start of Eliza and Hux’s story begins when they are in High School and over a period of a couple of months. This took half the book. Boy from wrong side of the tracks, doesn’t deserve anything, mother abandoned and alcoholic dad. Eliza is a rich girl, popular, quirky sense of humor and kind. She wants Hux and no matter how many times he tells her he’s leaving, she insists, practically seduces him to her way of thinking. Fast forward to five years later, Hux is successful enough to have his pictures shown in galleries for his one man show so it made no sense to me that he thinks he’s still not good enough for Eliza and she’s pissed at him for leaving her without waking her on their last night together. When his Agent purposely booked a show in the same hotel Eliza’s grandfather owns where she’s the event planner, they’re both pissed at first. The second half of the book doesn’t give enough of an explanation as to how they got to this point. The five years between are glossed over to get the HEA

What a great book

I don't normally read books about teenage love.I even thought of finding a different book but something just said keep going. I'm glad I died. Eliza fell in love with Hux several months before he graduated early from high school. His home life was a complete shambles with his father blaming him from the age of two until he left at seventeen. She was the only beautiful thing in his life. The first person to tell him she loved him. In the end he left her behind. He was quite the photographer growing up and within the five years after leaving he made it big. He never wanted to return to where his life began. His success was helped by a loving woman who thought she could help both Eliza and him. Read this book to see what she did and what happens. I was really caught up in this book. Love the descriptions of his landscaping job, the woods, the people and his love of photography and Eliza. Thanks for such a good book.

So heartbreaking and beautifully written.

Oh my goodness I mean wow. I cannot be happier that I was able to receive an ARC to Time Lapse because you guys it’s so freaking GOOD. It was so good I literally sat in my car to read so no one would bug me while I finished. Ugh I absolutely loved Huxley and Eliza( El ).Huxley will steal your hear and El will heal it and make it soar. Their story is so beautiful it will make you feel the pain and hurt that Huxley feels. The tortured soul of his will make you want to rip his dads head off. As for El she is perfect for Huxley she is the rainbow for his storm. I promise you that you will absolutely love it and will want more from them. I want to know more from their life together so I’m excitingly waiting for Chances story just to get a glimpse of what is going on with Hux and El.

This is a sweet story.

Hux(ley) and El(iza) are in two different socio-economic backgrounds, but that doesn't erase the pull between them. No matter how many times Hux pushes El away from him, they are brought together over and over again. When he pushes her away for what he believes is the final time, neither of them expects to see each other again. But when well-meaning forces engineer their reunion, they'll have to decide whether they're simply bent, or just too broken to try again.

Hux and El's story is touching, but underneath the heavy emotion is a lightness that the author manages to convey, helping us to focus on the couple's HEA. It's a great story of love surviving time and distance, as well as forgiveness and second chances.

I recommend this read.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Emotions so fleeting

I enjoyed reading this book and it had a good flow that I didn’t even notice how fast I read through it. However I will say I think that I was reading because I was waiting for a little more redemption. Hux has a lot of depth and the author really made him loveable but I feel like their reunion went into the honeymoon phase too soon. I was really waiting on there for him to redeem himself and confront his insecurities in a much different way. Idk, it seemed like the forgiveness and all was maybe too perfect. I almost get the feeling that El gave up and just let him do what he wanted because he was just that irresistible to her. Idk, I was expecting something more but it wasn’t there for me. Good read overall but not something I would want to reread or put in my library.

This is the kind of book that makes you fall in love with reading!
It's super sweet and adorable. I fell in love with Huxley and Eliza since the first moment.
A love story between an outcast bullied by everyone and a popular girl who refuses to turn her back on him. And a lot of photographs!
Words collide in the most perfect way, even if it turns gray for a little while.
I'm so so so happy after I read this story and it makes me want to know a little more after The End.
I can't get over of the love that was pouring between the main characters and from my Kindle. Congrats JB!! Amazing job!!!

If you want a short, but extremely sweet story Moments of Beauty is your book!

Love you JB!!! Amazing work! ❤❤❤

This was such a heart wrenching read! This is a story about two people who change each other completely. Hux and Eliza share an intense summer romance with an inevitable expiration date. And years later, when they are thrown together yet again, those feelings have never gone away…

It’s been five years and Hux has grown into his craft. He is a talented man and is benefiting from his art, but he has never forgotten the only true muse he has ever had. When he comes back to his hometown for work, of course he would run into the one person that haunts his dreams. Can he be enough for her this time around? Can he overcome his demons and be the man he knows she deserves?

This was brutally beautiful and I loved every minute of it!!

Such Beauty...

This book lived up to and even exceeded my high expectations for it.

A beautifully told story that grabbed me just by reading the blurb.

Huxley is such a lovable character that you couldn't help but fall in love with from the get go. Ok the cover is pretty awesome and whom I envisioned Huxley to look like. Huxley has so much love to give and by the end of the book you will see it and sigh with happiness.

Eliza was a lovely character as well and I quickly fell for her. Them together was perfection. They are two puzzle pieces finding exactly where and how they fit together.

JB Heller has written a beautiful story that will make your heart feel full.
