The attack on the Academy was only the beginning of the adventure for Max O’Brian. Two months later, he finds himself placed back on active duty. Max knew things would change after their early graduation, but being summoned to speak before the Council was not anything he expected. And definitely not the meaning behind the summons. From the Alliance base in D.C. to the distant plains of an alien planet, Max soon learns the Galaxy is becoming a small place.
The Novens are closing in, and nowhere is truly safe anymore. Either in this star system or another.
P.D. Atkerson is a homeschooled writer, living in Montana, who may or may not be a secret agent. She spends almost as much time in the worlds she creates as she does the real one. When she’s not reporting the stories of her agents, she’s learning different languages, or traveling to different worlds through the portals of books. She has a black belt in sarcasm and a master’s degree in useless facts.
Another amazing story by P.D. Atkerson! I was drawn immediately into the story and couldn't put it down until I finished the very last page. Filled with action and suspense, plus P.D.'s famous humor and sarcasm that had me laughing pretty hard. This is a must read for all P.D. fans and those who haven't read her amazing stories!
“Doesn’t that make me feel special?” Man! The way it ends!! I mean, how much better can it get? They finally decide to pair—well, Aidan finally agrees. And then this?? Please tell me he won’t die!! Please please please!! I just couldn’t stand it! Those Novans…Balash…whatever! I do NOT like them. In fact, I dislike them with vehemently!!
Guys…it’s still worth it…I can only hope the other books are just as exciting, just as emotion gripping, just as amazing, as the the first two!!
Thanks, PD! I know you didn’t have to lend me this one but you did and I’m ever so grateful!! ☺️
Well, I don't think I can put it off this review any longer. Have I even recovered from this book? I have no idea.
This book was epic. Awesome. Wow. I'm not even sure how to review it. The characters I came to love in Testing of the Stars whirled themselves into another story I couldn't put down. I love P.D. Atkerson stories...but this one is more than just a P.D. Atkerson story. I'm really not sure what to do with it, other than read it again. The sarcasm was awesome. I laughed a ton. The other parts...well I cried a ton too.
It was an awesome ride. Not nearly long enough and I desperately need the next book, but I think I can say the ending was satisfactory despite how I felt in the initial 48 hr recuperation time following my absorption of the end. I don't think I could in good conscience give it anything but a 5 star review. Maybe we could make it 4.9 for ruining my sleep for a whole night, but that also means I couldn't put it down soo...
And that's all I can say without spoilers. Otherwise I would scream, laugh, and go on and on, but without telling you what happens all I can say is go read it. If you love awesome sci-fi and gut-punching powerful Christian fiction, read this. You'll love it even more than Testing of the Stars which you simply have to read if you haven't already.
I received the book from the author in exchange for an honest review. These are my discombobulated, but most definitely honest thoughts.
Please excuse me while I take a week to recover from the massive book hangover Max and Aidan gifted me. Thank you.
I waited ever so patiently (not really) for this book to come out. I adored Testing. Wandering is right up there next to it. I don't have words adequate enough to try to explain how much I love Max and Aidan's bond. The fact that it grew (very reluctantly, I will say, thanks to Aid) in this book, and in the last couple of chapters made me fall ever more in love than I thought was conceivably possible.
The challenges they face are greater than they ever imagined.
And this Defender-Mentalist duo is one you will not soon forget.
I’m soooo happy I finally got my hands on this! As always, P.D. Atkerson’s action packed books are quite the ride! I really love that for this series because the view of the stars, in this book’s case the different planets and moons too, is literally phenomenal!
I enjoyed Aidan getting to interact with Max’s family! I hope he’ll get a glimpse into more of that, feeling like family himself, eventually!
I loved the extra twists I definitely wasn’t expecting!! Soo cooool!!!! Gah, there’s several things I wanna fan girl about but I don’t want to ruin any surprises either, ha! For of the main twists, I think my only complaint is there weren’t EnOugH details and development hehe but that’s probably just cuz I’m a sucker for that kind of thing and I know for the sake of continuing the story it may be better to have moved on. Sci-fi is seriously so much fun! I loved the elements the author brought into this series!
I do have to mention a few things, besides just a couple disconnected scenes/conversations, that felt… off to me: I know it’s partially on purpose, and something I’ve noticed about the author’s more ornery characters, but Aidan’s attitude and disrespect does seem to go too far sometimes. I know it’s partially projection after issues with people, but there were a couple moments that seemed overdone. It kinda bothered me extra in this book as he’s not recognizing his behavior/words ARE a problem and something he needs to work on, especially from a Christian perspective as this book portrays(and I do love how the author incorporates it!).
Second, there are some instances where I doubted that was how teenage boys would interact with each other. It’s made clear they’re friends/brothers but I think about how my own brothers and the guys I’ve grown up with talk to/handle themselves around each other and there were a couple times a situation didn’t seem plausible.
I did like the emphasis on soul brothers—like David and Jonathan’s in the Bible. That’s such a neat perspective and I wanted Aidan to have that so badly, and Max too after having lost Roger. Aidan is such a stubborn thing though, I appreciate Max’s patience and seeing past Aidan’s abrasiveness!
Looking forward to the next book!! I do think this series has been my favorite of the author’s thus far 💫
OH MY GOODNESS. This book was SO good!!!!!! Ahhh. I can't! And the ENDING! It was amazing! I gave this book a five star but I think development can be made in giving the readers a little more insight into the MC's minds. But again... SOOOOO GOOOOODDDD REAAADDDD ITTTTTT!
Oh. My gosh. THAT ENDING. And not just the ending, but the beginning and the middle and the- ACK!
If I thought Testing was intense, this book was even more so. I absolutely loved getting to see the progression of Aidan and Max's friendship, and I maaaay or may not have nerded out majorly when a certain Wormhole appeared out of nowhere. 👀 This book was everything I loved from Testing and then some. The tech - the stars - the sarcasm - the die-hard brotherly love Max has for Aidan. I love it all, and I am so here for it.
💫 wormholes 💫 alien planets 💫 on-point banter 💫 brother bonds to die for 💫 platonic love
I couldn't be happier with this masterful sequel to Testing of the Stars. In fact, I may have enjoyed it even more than its predecessor, despite not being sure whether I would like the space setting. Aiden may be one of my favorite characters ever, and Max is a consistently loyal and admirable friend to him. Their wanderings across galaxies kept me interested. While this is a high-stakes book, there were a few moments of calm, like when Aiden met Max's family. I don't plan to put this series on pause anytime soon, and I'll probably have finished it by the end of the month--which is a testament to how enjoyable I find it.
Just as good as the first one!! ❤ The characters are amazing! I LOVE Aiden and Max, but I am scared for their future! I'm so excited to start the next one!
