The sequel to the number one Audible Best Seller Earthcore .
From the number one New York Times best-selling author of the Generations Trilogy comes the second book in the Sun Symbol series, an epic story of lost civilizations, redemption, and immeasurable treasure.
With shades of Tom Clancy, Stephen King, and James Rollins, Mount Fitz Roy continues the tale of Patrick O’Doyle and Bertha Lybrand, who were part of the horror show that occurred far below the mountains of Utah. They learn that the "mother of all motherlodes" discovered there was not unique, that there is another deposit similar to it three miles beneath the towering peak of Cerro Chaltén on the disputed border between Chile and Argentina.
O'Doyle, a middle-aged former member of a disgraced black-ops unit, gets his aging team back together to go after this fortune. Funded by the mining company EarthCore, he, Bertha, and his crew of 40-something operators try to turn back the clock long enough to make them all richer than their wildest dreams.
But three miles below the surface, where geothermal temperatures will cook you alive, something is waiting. Waiting, and guarding. This time, O’Doyle is well-prepared and well-armed—if he survives, he will be set for life, and he will have his revenge for the Utah massacre.

January 14, 2021 An awesome day today as MOUNT FITZ ROY passed 1,000 reviews on Audible. Ray Porter's voice on my words seems to make the listeners happy. What a thrill!
December 3, 2020 So let it be done!
MOUNT FITZ ROY is finally ready to spelunk into your ear canal. It's live on Audible. • Get it here: bit.ly/fitzroy-audible
I worked my tail off on this, as did narrator Ray Porter. We both hope you dig it! The print/eBook version are held back for a year as part of the Audible Original deal.
January 23, 2020 Sweet cuddly krakens, has it been a year since I updated this post? By gosh, it has. How embarrassing I am still working on this book, but I just passed 90% completion on the final draft. I would like to have been here sooner, but sometimes things take as long as they take.
I know y'all have been waiting a long time. Soon, the final will go to the continuity editor for a final review, then it's on to the line editor to get it ready for it's final form.
And speaking of that final form, we will have news soon. We hope.
Tuesday, January 8, 2019 Dang, it's 2019 already? This time thing ... it's a pain in the ass.
MOUNT FITZ ROY is now with our continuity editor. He's making sure the book lines up properly with all things in the Siglerverse continuum. It's a critical part of our editing process.
We don't have a publication date in mind yet, but after the continuity edit comes the final draft.
Tuesday, March 27 The first draft of MOUNT FITZ ROY is finished!
Wednesday, Feb 21, 2018 The FITZ train keeps on a-truckin'. Happy holidays, y'all! We're closing in on the first draft of MOUNT FITZ ROY. We're over 160,000 words, and I think it will finish up at about 200,000 (that's about 800 paperback pages). We're hoping for a release in late 2018. The end is shaping up to be a real hum-dinger.
Wednesday, December 27, 2017: I am chugging along on MOUNT FITZ ROY. We're at 115,000 words, and I'd say that we're about halfway done. Hopefully. That's about 350 paperback pages, so if I'm halfway done it could be a soul-crushing 700-page tome. Too damn big. Bigger than Earthcore, the first book in the duology.
I hope that's just first-draft bloat. Most first drafts are longer than the final cut, but everything I've put in so far seems like it's important enough to keep. We will have to see how it goes.
No estimate for when it will be done and in your hot little hands (or ears ... yes, you have hot ears).
I hope you are giving yourself reading time this holiday season and enjoying the tales of your favorite storytellers. Take time to breathe, take time for yourself. You need care and feeding just as much as your friends and family do.

Monday, October 23, 2017 As you can see, we've added the cover art for MOUNT FITZ ROY. The cover artist is Scott E. Pond, a long-time design collaborator of mine. What do you think of this cover? I think it looks intimidating and spooky — good adjectives for this novel.
I'm 40,000 words into the first draft. I am guessing the final draft will be about 120,000 words, although I'm really, really bad at estimating these things, even though I outline extensively.
I'm enjoying the hell out of this. I think y'all are going to dig it.
This is a sequel to the novel Earthcore. This can be read as a stand alone as the author does an excellent job of catching up readers from the first novel and having this one stand on its own. In this one there is a second site where the mother lode of platinum exists and would make a person the richest person on this planet. The problem is that this place is a home to aliens and they guard it with their lives. Is the risk of one's life worth being set for the rest of it?
I just reread my review for the first novel and I could have copied and pasted it for this review. I will say that this one is better than the first book in this series and why I gave it one more star. I think the writing in this one is so much tighter. That is saying something too as this book is just under nine hundred pages. Going into this book the volume of pages had me worried if it was going to be a slog fest. I am here to tell you it is not as every page held my interest and I could not wait to see what would happen next. Once again Scott Sigler does a wonderful job of mixing genres within each other and keeping the reader thoroughly entertained. This one is obviously a sci-fi novel because of the aliens. Mix in high octane action with a mix of certain characters that I felt heartfelt emotions and you have a recipe for a terrific novel. I will admit that other characters were the only flaw in this book and prevented me from giving this the full five stars. Like the first book I felt like some of them fell into tropes. Even with them falling into these tropes it really did not affect my enjoyment too much as I was totally invested with this book.
This book easily exceeded my expectations. I was a little worried because of the size of the book or I believed that the characters from the first book were not strong enough to carry a second book. I was quickly dispelled of these notions as this was a fun thrill ride that really deserves Hollywood to make into a movie. I would love to see this on a big screen as this had summer action flick written all over it. I am not sure if there will be a third book to this series. I am hoping there is and I would immediately dive right into it.
I don't even like action books. But Ray Porter and Scott Brick changed all that for me. Ray Porter narrated this one and he held my interest for each and every moment of this 29 hours long audio. BRAVO both to Ray and to Scott Sigler. I'm hoping there will be a third book!
I’ve been anticipating the release of this book for several years after listening to the prequel re-release of Earthcore with Ray Porter narrating. I was extremely happy to have Ray Porter back to perform Mount Fitz Roy.
It was exciting to have the survivors of Earthcore back in this sequel. Patrick pulls his old crew of black-op guys and along with Bertha, his wife now, they head to Mount Fitz Roy to look for the buried treasure hidden and protected by the same creatures introduced in Earthcore.
Because the treasure is 3 miles beneath the earth, the gang requires a lot of specialized equipment, and the dangers are extreme.
The book took a major twist which astounded me and made this sequel so much different from book 1. I can’t go into details, because... Spoilers!
The book is extremely girthy with almost 30 hours of audiobook. But with Ray Porter in my ear, it really went by too fast.
This + Earthcore would make for great film adaptations.
Epic story, interesting cast of characters, high octane action, ludicrously high stakes, people to root for, fast pacing... I seriously don't understand how Sigler remains such an underrated author. These are all the elements I love.
Okay, it's not high-brow, literary science fiction. There's no masturbatory prose. No murky, unrealized themes. But so what? Watch out for the ROCKTOPI!!!
I love rocktopi. I almost hope for a sequel involving those squishy sweeties plus Angus Kool.
Let me start with what I did not like about this book: nothing. There was not a single thing I didn’t enjoy.
The reader was excellent. The pacing was perfect. The characters were well developed; I cared about them and could accept their motivations and reasoning. And the connections to other works by the author were there to enhance the story.
Scott Sigler hates spoilers, so I am going to keep this review brief and vague. First up, you will be stunned to hear this novel is a massive 890 pages and incredibly, for a book this size, it does not drag, and I devoured it over four days. If you have read Earthcore, you will know platinum miners get a nasty surprise when they are digging deep under the mountains in a remote part of Utah, finding something unfriendly which is not human. Mount Fitz Roy moves the action to another mountain on the disputed border between Argentina and Chile, where they realise there is another potentially much larger deposit of the priceless metal. However, it is unclear whether those on the hunt will encounter the same type of resistance as they did in Earthcore. Greed, revenge and stupidity are all contributing factors as the prospectors enter the caves and the body count begins to rise.

Did Earthcore leave you blown away, wanting more, and needing some answers? This picks up right where book one, Earthcore, left off and sucks you right back into the story. For those who have read a lot of Scott’s other books you will hear some familiar names that make this gem extra special. Lots going on as you once again go beneath the surface to the world of the Rocktopi and the Silver Bugs
While I did enjoy this, I don't think there was enough story to justify the daunting length - there were a number of side-tracks that really were not critical to the overall story. I debated about starting it as an audiobook, given that I have limited listening time, and by the end I found myself trying to remember things that had happened early in the book...
I don't think I'll ever give a Scott Sigler book less than 5 stars. I don't think he's capable of writing a book worth less than 5 stars. Scott Sigler is one of the first authors I listened to when I started getting into audio books and he got me hooked! He's now one of the few authors on my short list. I don't need to read the description of the book or listen to the sample. I just buy the book because I know I'll love it! Mount Fitz Roy was great! I've been waiting a few years for this sequel! I'd love to see a third book in the series, but if not that then a new series with the DST (Department of Special Threats). I think Patrick and Bertha have more excitement in their future. As always, great narration by Ray Porter! Porter is one of the narrators I always enjoy!
I've loved every Sigler book I have ever read. This... this was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. So many laughs, so many tears. These characters came to life, not only through written word, but through narration as well. A simply fantastic experience that will stay with me for a very long time. A huge thank you to Scott and Ray. ❤
This is by far the best I've read by Sigler. It's rare that I feel genuine suspense in a book, but this had me guessing quite a bit about what the date of the characters would be.
A sequel to my least favorite of the books written by one of my favorite authors. I liked Earthcore fine, it just didn't have the same weight as some of Sigler's other books in my humble opinion. And this was a good book, though it did seem to drag on forever!
I “reviewed” the first book in this duology a few days ago and gave it a middling review. It pains me, as it was so readable and enjoyable overall. But of the rather large cast of characters in the book, very few felt three-dimensional. Most were assholes, and spending time in their POV was more frustrating than anything.
But the reason I even re-read it was because I wanted to read the sequel, this book, which was done quite a bit later.
And I must point out that what Scott Sigler does, that I find fascinating, is blend horror and hard sci-fi. I mean, the former is known for plots and prose that are visceral, emotional, and sensational, while the latter is known more for it’s lack of all those things.
So I tend to always want to know what he’s up to, some of his work I like more than others, and I think these books are among my least favorites of his that I’ve read. Which means it’s just really good instead of mind blowing.
The truth is that this is a big step up, in my opinion, from the previous novel. Even though there are several returning characters, they are better written, less sociopathic, and more rounded. A testament, I think, to Sigler’s growth as a writer over the years.
The plot is probably a spoiler for the first book. But it’s horror and hard sci-fi like he usually writes. Except contemporary, which I suppose is important to distinguish, as one of the other things he’s done that I like, is make all his novels and stories fit inside a single continuity, and they span, that I know of, over the course of 700 or more years, from our recent past to well into our terrifying future.
I do recommend everyone give something of his a chance, if you’re in to that sort of thing. If not, then fair enough. As for this book, it’s significantly better than the previous, but not so much greater than if you read, or started, the first in the series and hated it, that this one would turn your opinion around. It’s just better executed is all, even if there are fewer plot threads and POV characters. Anyway, you may have been able to tell that my heart wasn’t in this review. It’s just that I finished a few more books this week so now I’ve got more that 30 I need to review to catch back up. So instead of waiting for the mood to strike me, I just powered through and threw this piece of crap up. I hope future me likes the effort current me is going through to put something up now. I will after all, go back in a few years when I’ve long forgotten what the book was about and read that muddled, incoherent mess above and then scratch my head and wonder why I bothered to write anything down.
Current me wonders the same question. So relax, future me, I’m just as confused now as you are.
This was amazing. A huge 1000 page book but it goes by really quickly. Very similar to Earthcore in plot but there a lot of new characters and also quite a few differences. Pretty exciting and nonstop action especially from about the midway point.
An amazing book, written by Scott Sigler, and expertly narrated by Ray Porter. I'm actually sort of glad the book was initially made available only through audiobook format (and is still only available as an audiobook, as near as I can tell). The quality of the narration only helps to enhance what is a thrilling, claustrophobic adventure. Scott Sigler's Earthcore was an amazing combination of adventure, science fiction, and horror...the sort of thing that Sigler excels at providing his readers with. Mount Fitz Roy is an expectation-shattering follow-up to that novel, with nods to most of Mr. Sigler's existing catalog of material tossed into the mix. This book has a little bit of everything. We have a race to locate and unearth a massive treasure buried beneath an Argentinian mountain, we have multiple parties seeking revenge against an alien species that's remained hidden for millennia deep within the Earth, and (of course) we have aliens and lots of violence. We also have a fair bit of drama and loss embedded into the narrative in a way that makes the high stakes of everything hit home with quite the impact. Fans of Earthcore might be a little surprised with the direction this story ends up going, but I can't imagine anyone being disappointed.
...And I thought Earthcore was a thrill ride... I am blown away by how much i enjoyed this book! Mount Fitz Roy cranks the balls-to-the-wall action up to eleven! I'm not giving any spoilers because this book is best served fresh, AND after Earthcore. An absolutely enthralling storyline filled with so much humor, gore, and heart! The tension in this novel had me completely on the edge of my seat, and all of the reoccurring characters and Siglerverse cameos played my emotions like a fiddle. I laughed, I exclaimed, I jumped around and pumped my fists, I cursed, and I cried (a couple times). I can't even begin to imagine how crazy Scott's storyboards were for this big bad mamma jamma! Worth every minute of the wait! Thank you F.D.Ø and A., I bow to thee good sir and madame, you're the best! 💕
At the start of every book, Scott Sigler gives a little introduction pleading with readers not to give spoilers away, as you only get one chance to read a book for the first time. For this reason, as a Sigler Junkie, I am going to honour this and keep my review very brief and just say that this was a fantastic read that had me hooked from beginning to end. Alien: Phalanx is still my favourite book by Sigler due to the incredible depth to the story that is present in all his books but was pure perfection in that, but this holds very close from a depth and depth of story viewpoint.
Another great addition to the Siglerverse! I have enjoyed every one of Scott Sigler's books that I have read and this is no exception. His stories are always action-packed rides of intelligent fiction. Scott never fails to deliver the humor either. I caught myself laughing out loud a few times. But there were also a few moments where I had to grit my teeth at his vivid descriptions of violence. Keep them coming!
Fear Not the Size of this Adventure! 💥 This eagerly awaited sequel to Scott Sigler's "Earthcore" does not disappoint! Join these extraordinary miners in their quest for a Treasure that's Out of this World!
I....I am going to need several days to recover. The book hangover I have from finishing this absolute masterpiece is brutal. I'm both heartbroken and elated. Well done, Mr. Sigler. I waited years for this sequel and it was even better than I worked it up in my head to be.
Wow a sequel that is better than the original! A roller-coaster ride which had me laughing and close to tears. Well worth it though only on Audible till December 2021
