Emma almost has everything. She's got a wonderful son, a beautiful, tender friend and co-parent, and a family she can count on. It was all she ever dreamed of, once upon a time. At times, she thinks she finally understands what authors mean when they end their story with: they lived happily ever after.
But the feeling always leaves her by the morning. Sometimes she thinks her real happy ending has disappeared somewhere in the past, somewhere in between the curses and forgotten memories. And now it is only a possibility lost to her memories.
Wow! Just wow! This fic is definitely on the top 3 of my fave swanqueen fics. The plot and the emotions behind it all and the sweet moments between Emma and Regina and just everything. All the little details made this story so beautiful 🥰 I love it
Big SwanQueen lover over here 👈🏻 so no surprises. And if a fic is 400 (book) pages long, you bet I’m putting it on my Goodreads. First of all, I have to say, there aren’t many fics out there that have left me speechless, but the ones that have, follow me throughout my life. And all in all, I think we don’t give fanfiction as much acclaim as it deserves, especially since we see so many of them becoming published books nowadays (hm hm, Alchemised and now apparently ATYD? leave my harry potter fics alone pleasee). We see it on AO3 first though 🤭
I got introduced to ff with All the Young Dudes, and have never looked back since. And of course, being a long time OUAT fan I had to pick up the pace with this fandom too (lol fangirling at its best). I’ve always loved SwanQueen and it’s the only pairing that truly made sense to me in that show (so canon that even the actual canon ships can’t contradict it). So when I see a highly recommended, highly liked, and long fanfiction about Emma and Regina you bet I’m reading it.
Now the only reason why I’m going so far as to writing this review (and I’m not making much sense either because I’m sick so excuse me), is because not only was the story so beautiful and it fit so nicely with the actual story of the show, but the writing was so beautiful! The emotions portrayed so raw and literally as if they were pouring out of the page (or my kindle in this case). I love vulnerable, touching, and canon-obliging fics and this one did such a good job with it! The characterization of Emma and Regina was so on-point too and this in itself is so important (especially in the endless lists that are swanqueen fanfictions). I loved reading their conversations and thinking, yes, this is exactly who the character that I grew up watching in the screen was.
Will this be the last ff I add to my Goodreads? Probably not (since I’m starting ATYD with Sirius’ and Lily’s povs as well), but it certainly deserves its own praise.
