Holly has two goals this hide from the holiday madness and write a steamy adult novella that will put her on the map in the literary world. But when her brother’s best friend, Sam, returns home for the holidays, Holly decides that she must also face the reality of her reckless, undying love for him.
Sam is gorgeous, sweet, and intelligent–the perfect man in Holly’s eyes. The problem is that she, for a lack of better words, is a hot mess. She is eccentric in nature, particular about far too many insignificant things, and she is known for her odd behavior.
But who says an eccentric woman can’t get the man of her dreams and write a successful adult novella?
Reckless Devotion is a light-hearted, small town, brother’s-best-friend, friends-to-lovers, slow-burn romance.

This is my first time reading a brother's best friend romance so I didn't know what to expect - but I was pleasantly surprised! I liked that Holly, Chester, Sam, Lenna, and Tyler were all in the 20-something age group because I'm not much for teenage angst or drama.
But, I cannot believe how much this book had me laughing! I did not expect it at all. One of my favorite parts of the book was during an awkward but funny exchange between Tyler and Sam at Lenna's get-together. I have many other favorite laughable parts throughout the book and made sure to highlight all of them just so I could go back and do a reread.
The story of Sam and Holly is very sweet and endearing, yet there are some fun, steamy moments too! I grew to love all the characters in this story and it was tough to part with Holly and Sam, BUT what about Chester and/or Lenna? I hope to read more about them one day ;).

Ugh, unfortunately this never fully came together for me. The plot felt scattered at times, jumping between intense moments and slower scenes without much balance. I struggled to connect with the characters their motivations often felt unclear or inconsistent, which made it hard to root for their relationship or even understand some of their choices.
The chemistry had its sparks, but the tension didn’t build in a way that kept me invested. Instead, it felt rushed in some places and dragged out in others. I also found myself wanting more depth in the emotional development; the big moments didn’t hit with the impact they were clearly aiming for.
I have to say I absolutely love Sam and Chester. Both guys are sweet and adore Holly. Chester is the great caring older brother, where Sam is the super hot best friend who realizes he's into her.
Holly is eccentric and that is so different than most stories. Her quirky personality had me laughing out loud several times. This book is good if you're in the market for a sweet simple read.
