Dragons have a secret and I'm not looking to let it out! I spend every Christmas up on the mountain hiding from all the Christmas cheer. My talisman keeps me safe from the pull of the mistletoe to find my fated mate. After the loss of my parents and my younger brother on Christmas Eve, I went to a witch and asked for something to block myself from finding my mate.
She gives me a talisman but with a warning. "Your mate is strong. She will find you at Christmas. The talisman has limited powers to protect you and her love is too powerful. It won't stop her."
"Then I'll just have to stay away from people during Christmas."
Will it work? Unlikely. And the pitying looks the witch gives me says I'm fooling myself.
Will love win out for this grumpy scrooge of a dragon? Of course it will! It's one of mine so that means a steamy HEA for sure!
Plot: August is a dragon who lost his family and refuses to look for his true mate because he can't stand the idea of losing someone he loves again. But the universe is determined to bring him and Kaida together through any means necessary.
Commentary: August was very stubborn in the beginning and Kaida was very stubborn in the middle. Things finally came together in the end. This wasn't my favorite from this author, mostly because of the heroine's resistance, which was really strong for an insta-love, fated mates story.
August is determined he wants nothing to do with his mate, until her life is hanging in the balance. He transforms from indifferent to besotted in the blink of an eye or the flap of a wing, and surprisingly even when he is being smug and cocky, he still manages to be endearing. I like that whilst Kaida can feel the pull and the mate bond, she doesn't give in easily, she sasses and verbally jousts with him, even as she loves him. A sweet and sexy addition to the series which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
So much of this book bothered me. The MMC was too obsessed with her being a virgin and "pure as snow." The FMC is initially reluctant to trust him because he is controlling and bossy, and it reminds her of her asshole father who left her and her mom. But apparently it's all okay because he explains he only bosses her around to keep her from hurting herself 🤮.

Great short story for your lunch break or just a quick fix. Dragons are a sexy bunch and August is no different. Would have loved just a little more back story on Kaida. Have questions that need answers. First time reading this author but I liked it.
Okay/good read. He did go from 0-10 real quick but that is because that mistletoe ball was stashed in his groceries. I want a little more of them falling in love. But I know it was a short read.
August Draco a Dragon Shifter lost his father, Mother, and his twelve year old brother in a car accident on Christmas Eve, many years ago. August does celebrate. Kaida a human and a librarian, is his fated mate.
