When the Scorpion Stings: The History of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Vietnam, 1965-72

Rate this book
This firsthand account relates the story of one of the most decorated Australian Regiments and its role in Vietnam from 1966 to 1972, and of course, the stories of those men who served within it. The regiment was the first unit involved in the establishment of the Australian Task Force at Nui Dat, and the last to leave when the task force was finally disbanded. Providing armored personnel carrier support, the regiment participated in many of the major battles in the campaign, including Long Tan in 1966, and often played a key role in their outcomes. This story of the regiment, in effect the story of Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War, as more than half of all Australian troops in the region would have operated with the unit at some point in their service, evokes personal and political history and holds resonance today.

Very informative and gripping account of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment in South Vietnam, 1965-72. The 3rd Cavalry Regiment was one of the most decorated Australian units that served in South Vietnam and this is a must read for anyone who is interested in Australian military history or military history in general.
