866 AD. Saxon England burns under attack from the Great Heathen Army . Vicious Viking adventurers land on the coast of Frankia hungry for spoils, conquest and glory. Hundr and the crew of the warship Seaworm are hunted by Ivar the Boneless , a pitiless warrior of incomparable fury and weapon skill. Amidst the invasion of Brittany and war with the Franks, Hundr allies with the armies of Haesten and Bjorn Ironside , two of the greatest warriors of the Viking Age. Ivar the Boneless hunts Hundr , desperate to avenge the death of his son at Hundr's hand. To survive, Hundr must battle against fearsome Lords of Frankia, navigate treachery within the Viking Army itself, and become a warrior of reputation in his own right. Hundr must navigate the war, survive Ivar's brutal attacks, and find his place in the vicious world of the Vikings in this unputdownable, fast paced adventure with memorable characters. The Wrath of Ivar continues the unmissable Viking historical fiction saga series which began with Peter Gibbons' debut Viking Blood and Blade.

At least five times I’ve heard Sten bewail that he broke his oath to Ralla, his Christian wife, and wouldn’t be with her in heaven. Too much repetition for a series of books.
The fighting scenes were well done; a strong point.
It was good to finally hear Hundr quite cry-babying about how he hated everyone and finally admitted, first to himself, that it was wrong to accuse Sten of being a betrayer, and owned up to his own errors…sort of, anyway.
Well done, just too many editing errors to make it a 4-star.
The repeating of the same information,(which made up at least a third of this book )made me skim through most of this book , so sorry to say that’s why only 3 stars, also put me off reading the next in the series.
Another instalment, of Viking prowess. Highly recommended, great characters, excellent historical research basically a thumping good read, can’t wait to read the next in the series.
This is an excellent read the author gets you and takes you on a rip roaring Viking saga full of great characters excellent bloody battles right from the off.The book is extremely well written and researched and I found it very difficult to put it down. I've read a lot of this type of novel and I think this is one of the best novels off Viking fiction I've read and I will definitely be reading the next instalment.
I really still want to see where Hundr's story goes. I do like this series especially as a lover of vikings stories. I just. Could not give 5 stars because there is so much repetition that it feels sometimes like filler rather than just reminder of past events. I feel sometimes that Peter Gibbons needs to use his writing skills a little more to show rather than tell. We know Hundr and Einar well enough at this point that we don't have to know every thought in their head, especially thoughts that have been repeated over and over again. I don't need to read, for example, what happened to Einar's guts a dozen times, because at this point, I already get it. This bothered me throughout because it kept slowing down the story and the anticipation. If a lot of that was cut out, the suspense would be more gripping. I know this book ended up being much shorter in length, but still, it compromised the interest of the readers. I'll look to see what the next book's storyline will be and if I want to finish the whole series.
Gibbons knows how to write great medieval battle scenes. Plenty of them in The Wrath of Ivar. The storyline was pretty unpredictable but that was to be expected as the goal here is action. The difficult part for me was the constant repetition. The retelling of each character's background was annoying. It is nice for an author to help readers who either didn't read book 1 or left a long period of time before getting to book 2, but repeating the same background info every 3 chapters was excessive. I am on the fence about continuing to book 3. But likely will do so.
I enjoyed the 1st, and was not disappointed with the 2nd. Lost in the Viking world of those whose lives were, and could only be , one of violence & brutality. Yet a world too of loyalty, friendship, and love. So OK, a fiction, a tale to entertain and of escapism, but also grounded in the understanding and knowledge Gibbons brings of an era & a civilisation so misunderstood & misrepresented. He is to be congratulated for his historical integrity
The only thing interesting here is the fight scenes which are written pretty well. But I never thought I'd read a sequel with negative character development.
Einar is the only one who strikes a different note but there's still nothing new there, just a rehash of Sten's background.
There was a little too much circling back and retelling the same parts of the store. We get it. Ivar carved the blood eagle into King Aelle’s back and it was scary.
Also, Hundr is pretty p whipped by the Irish Princess even though he never got any strange. Sad. Maybe he will now tho 😎
This action packed book was hard to put down! Hundr seems to have 9 lives! He goes from one battle to the next, surviving against the odds, and betrayals. Then the final confrontation, which was well written and very intense! My hat goes off to Mr Gibbons, for his skill as a writer, and as one who dares to deviate a bit from actual history to tell a more compelling story!
After reading Gibbon's first book, VIKING Blood and Blade, I eagerly jumped into and enjoyed the second book in his Saga. I look forward to seeing what the Norns and Gibbons have in mind for Hundr and his crew.
Really enjoyed the second book by Peter Gibbons as much as the first installment . Great characters and excellent storyline with battles and heroics . More of the same please .
A good second instalment in the Viking blood and blade saga, high adventure with engaging characters and fast paced action. Would recommend to any fan of historic fiction. Looking forward to book 3.
The Wrath of Ivar is a great tale. I can't vouch for the historical accuracy but I can vouch for the excitement. I acknowledge Peter Gibbons as an author with a rare talent for grand prose..
This book was just as good. Blood, gore, vengeance, betrayal and of course death. Ivar and Hundr must fight to the death but this book had a lot of cat and mouse chases. And I thought the death of one wouldn't come quickly enough. But is was worth it.
No history. Comic book super hero defeats foe and gets girl. This was free on kindle unlimited and was a waste of time. Skipped half and didn't miss anything.
The story started out a bit slow , but soon brought in plenty of adventure. Hundr is the hinted who finally becomes the hunter he always knew he could be
Read the first book because it was free on prime and I had to read this as soon as I could. It’s a quickish read but that could be because there’s rarely a dull moment. If you’ve read book one you need to read this.
I'm really enjoying this series. The story is engrossing and well written, the characters relatable and well realized. The books just fly by, even though I try to savor them. I definitely recommend.
Right now I need to balance serious reading with a break. Peter Gibbons writes very well, knows how to grip and run with interesting characters, developing relationships, and convincing action.
I thought this an excellent book full of action that kept the reader enthralled. Can wait to order other books in this series or others by this author. He knows his stuff re. The fearsome Norsemen ! Well recommended!g
This is part 2 in this series and it's great the boy has become a man and he's now got the reputation he wanted as well as the ships and the death of Ivar the boneless.
A decent, well written book, fast paced to the reader involved. Only negative was the list of characters from Kolo to Hundr himself all seem to come from central casting as seem similar to other books I’ve read….but I suppose there must be a limit to variations possible.
It was a fun read. We are given several new interesting characters. The journey deeper into the main character was excellent. My only issue was the ending felt rush. The last fight was over a bit to quickly in my opinion. I’m glad I read this fun book.
Excellent story. No one writes human angst and emotions like Peter Gibbons except Bernard Cornwell. His battle craft is exceptional. His characters very human. The story is thoughtful and intense.
Another great Viking book. I don’t think this one is as good as Blood and Blade but still a great book. I just felt like this one didn’t have as much character build as the first book. I cannot wait to read the next one!
Poorly written and poorly edited. Frequent and unnecessary repetition and restatement of the descriptive narrative almost as if the author thought he was going to be paid by the number of words he used.
I hadn't heard of this without before I bought the new book on sale on Kindle, but wow I have plowed through two books in no time. A great engaging read for lovers of historical fiction or just a darn good read.
Like his first book in this series, I could not stop reading. The battle scenes are exciting and we see a lot of Ivar plus his brother, Bjorn. The Valkyrie's are an interesting group of women who fight as hard as the men. Great story!
